USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Word around the campfire is usac is looking at a winged pavement sprint car series in 2014. What have YOU heard???

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Havent heard a thing but I would think it could be a good idea.

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
nascar don't give a rats ass who wins on dirt, they wanna know who won at Winchester, and who was fast at irp

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Seems to me they're a little late. Mustsee does a good job at there shows, and I can't see how USAC can improve on them.

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
On another thread a gentleman said Must See is having trouble paying the drivers. If true there may be an opening for USAC to exploit this if, indeed, it is true.

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
be careful what you wish for, and what does nascrap have anything to do with it?? all you need is a suitcase full of money and your in there. Besides, the last guy that "made it" did his damage on dirt more than pavement.

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
A question for the fans in the stands. Are winged pavement sprints more entertaining than traditional pavement sprints?
|
Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Why would USAC be interested in any pavement division? They already have killed off two.

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Nope. Leave the wings at home. Just my personal opinion. I do go watch a few every year but if I didnt live 5 minutes from Anderson Speedway where they run quite a bit I wouldnt go watch em at all but the convienience factor plays into that. As far as a USAC sactioned winged pavement series I agree with what someone has already mentioned in a way, just something else for USAC to run in the ground and kill off. I really wish I didnt feel that way and it was back to the days of old with USAC when they had 30-35 or more cars at EVERY series show. But unfortunately Ive seen how much they have destroyed since the "good ol days".

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Doesn't matter. The new boys at Usuck will screw it up too! Hope they like having 15 cars at shows. What about some open wheel racing that's reasonable for the average blue collar guy again? Lot of good equipment setting in garages thanks to USAC. Too bad there's no NAMARS, AAMS, Speedrome, or CORA type racing anymore.

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
the only way usac can provide a full field of pavement sprints would be by using the same cars on pavement as they use on dirt/ teams cannot afford separate cars for each

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Absolutely

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Just checkin'. I was wondering, why, would USAC make owners weld spuds on top of the cage to accept a wing tree when they already have, at their disposal (so to speak) a wonderfully entertaining sprint car division. Not that there's anything wrong with winged pavement sprints. I really, really, like ALL of the pavement winged sprints. Obviously........there are many, many pavement cars that are currently parked, that could still be run, without modification, under the "old" pavement rules. I don't dislike the winged series'. (sp????) But, if you know me, and who I am,(not that I'm 'anybody') then you also know my background............
I MUST go on record to say that I DO NOT dislike wings. It's just that it is quite a bit different, regardless....... My favorite thing in life, is..........pavement sprints. Please keep in mind, that.......there are sprint cars, and winged sprint cars........in that order. Dirt or pavement. Does not matter. That, by the way, is a rather famous quote from a MAJOR driver. I dunno who. That's for Richie or Vukie.......... Note to USAC......Please....and I do mean please......do not further your recent history of rather shabby treatment of owners (Ignite fuel, for example). I have never been able to shed the feeling that OUR fans have been, and still are, pi$$ed off by YOUR recent actions, as of the the last 5 or 6 years or so, and I DO MEAN, across the board. When I came into this sport, I was competing against Jason Smith, who was a mechanic at the time. So was Jason McCord. That was circa 1990. I WILL NOT say ANYTHING against those men. I do not know, and I do not want to know. I will work 'wherever'. Just ask Daron, or KT, or Mike Bowman, or Tanner Swanson, or Jimmie Gardner, or Jeff Bloom, or Don Wilshe, or AJ Russell, or maybe Jason Blonde, or Carla Phillips(I tried). All I want (who doesn't) is to compete. I'm just a pawn......If I'm lucky........ Point is, I AM NOT saying anything negative about anyone. I guess that all I am trying to convey, via this thread, is why, would USAC, make "us" put on wings when it's already out there, and wonderfully so, when 'we' already have a lot of cars/teams ready to go, if willing? I don't get it. |
Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
USAC already has 4 divisions of sprint cars on the West Coast, why not a 5th ;) A few weeks ago, Davey Hamiliton tested a winged sprinter at the new Kern County Raceway, think there is a you tube of the test session
maybe not a huge stretch if USAC did run a pavement wing series in the west, they used to have a 360 pavement series. |
Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
you need to put that camp fire out :)

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
There has already been enough owner $ pissed away because of Kevin, please say its not true, there are about 20 winged teams in the Midwest, if Kevin gets in their wallet they will be dead within 2 years!! Wait a minute, that might be the plan, destroy all competition then his 8 sprint cars, and 7 midgets, will be King!

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Sam you have always done an excellent job for Biobased. This is our last race with Must See Racing and we wont be running it period
except its just a test for us. Our Focus will be ISMA, MSA, HOSS, AVSS and USAC in 2014. Sue |
Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Usac needs to fix the problems they have now, not create new ones!!!!!!!! The pavement midget series is in trouble with low car counts and the silver crown pavement side is in big trouble. So USAC, fix the problems you have now before moving on !!!!!!!!!

Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
There's enough Winged Sprint Car Series now, why another one, Some one work on a Super Modified Series for the Midwest

In my opinion, USAC's recent history with pavement racing in general, doesn't give me a warm, fuzzy feeling that they can improve the situation at all. They have numerous problems that need solved before they enter into another area with no need at all. I would love to see a Supermodified series that is solid here in the midwest. In talking with a track owner and a couple of others in the know, they told me that the supers are a rather disfunctional group and that car counts have been a real problem. I don't know all of the issues at hand, but there are certain areas that they do well in and others that they don't. ISMA has backed off of traveling to the midwest other than for the Hy-Miler in Sandusky. The Midwest Supermodified Association has been scheduling races in Ohio and Michigan but last year cancelled a scheduled race at Baer Field in Fort Wayne. The Must See series has tried to race at Winchester, IRP, Anderson and other venues, but the car counts have been low and they have also cancelled races prior to the date for the same reason. I suspect money is an issue and with the current economy I don't see 2014 being a break out year either for the supers. I hope that I am wrong and we can see more races in and around Indiana in the near future. |
Re: USAC...2014...Winged Pavement Sprint cars???
Maybe a little history is in order here. First of all, as others have mentioned what new fan base would you be reaching with winged pavement sprint cars? The history of USAC pavement racing was at its best when one car could do both surfaces. That all went to hell when a few wealthy owners were willing to spend enormous dollars to run specialized cars for pavement. so you had teams like the Armstrong team and a few others who basically put the small teams at a huge disadvantage. A few of us who were around at this time watched as the USAC schedule began to be dominated by pavement racing to the point where if you wanted to see a dirt race you had to look elsewhere. Lastly, like it or not much of USAC's issues during this time period is that they were still operating under the dominance of IMS and the concept of running USAC meant a trip to the 500. We all know how that turned out. All of this opened the door for the WoO to to prosper because of the lack of understanding in the leadership at USAC as to what their new role was to be as CART came to the Speedway Today USAC needs to realize its bread and butter is the great racing that can be found in non-wing dirt racing. Now if they could just figure out a way to inform the young sprint car fan about the differences between wing vs non-wing they would really be on to something!
