Kokomo Red Cross at Ivy Tech

Hope everyone fared well in these storms that went through. Seen lots of pictures of damage.
Kokomo has red cross setting up at Ivy Tech for those needing assistance. Otherwise officials are advising people to stay home and out of the way.

By the grace of god, I made it through with no damage, I live maybe a half mile away from the hardest hit part of Kokomo. Please pray for all of us here. We certainly need them.

The Cottle and Jarrett families are ok. Any word on the Spencers?

Brent Goodnight said its as bad as he's ever seen it. However just slight injuries are known at this point.. Im sure power is out in many areas. There were 88mph wind gust up by Grissom as well. Hope Spencers are ok and the rest living in the areas effected.

I was coming back up north from Kentucky and happened to be passing through Kokomo as it hit and rode it out in town. A lot of damage in town. Saw trucks overturned and buildings destroyed. Even saw a house in the middle of the road. Counting my blessings tonight and thinking about those folks down in Kokomo.

On a minor note. Does anyone know about damage that Kokomo Speedway may have sustained? I know it's not important compared to what really matters but I was just curious.

Attached a couple pictures taken by Dean Hockney of Kokomo.

Just got done talking to Jerry Spencer.

He said the family is ok and they are currently working as a part of a rescue crew.

Thank you! The Spencers are always helping others.

Looks like most the damage was thru the center to south side of Kokomo. Lots of damaged businesses and homes! Thoughts with everyone affected. We were lucky to be missed by these tornadoes by a few miles!

According to a report, Kokomo had two ef2 tornados tear through the south side of town..

Nate 11/19/13 2:16 AM

2 EF2 Tornadoes on Sunday. Thankfully only minor injuries. A lot of cleaning up left to do but very grateful there were not any lives lost especially when you see the destruction.

On an IOW note it appears all Kokomo based teams have checked in and are all fine and the speedway reported no damage.

The Speedway looks to have been spared from the damage as most of the area hit by the tornadoes was south of the middle of town. It was terrible to see just how bad it was. Thank goodness very few people were injured.
A big Thank You to all the people from other towns and cities who have come to Kokomo to help with the enormous cleanup. This picture was passed around today of the twister. Very scary!

A shameless plug for a group from First Baptist Church, Columbus, Indiana that made the trip north today to help.

Re: Kokomo Red Cross at Ivy Tech

First I want to thank everyone for the calls, prayers and thoughts for all the people of Kokomo.

Last weekend the weather forcast was dark for Sunday and we had an idea something was up as sonny would not leave the back bathroom, he would go to the door stick his nose to the west do his thing and right back to safety this all started Friday night and got worse as Sunday got closer.

Sunday I was riding (wind therapy) and had stopped at Krogers to grab steaks for the grill as Josh and Shannon ask for dinner at mom and dads, when I got there Josh and Sarah both text and said the weather was getting bad, I got soaked and wind blown plus a touch of hail as I pulled onto our street parked in the garage then all hell broke loose as soon as I got the bike unloaded my boss called and said I needed to head in to work, we grabbed barracades and started into the war zone, I call it a war zone because it looked like a bomb had went off.
We started blocking streets then fighting for our own lives as the ******* sight seeers thought they had to get through no matter what, at one time a carload thretened to kill me if I did not let them into the worst part so they could take picture, anyone that knows me knows the threat is worse than had they done it outright, needlees to say they did not get past me, after a little bit we had to give up as they ran over barracades drove through yards and did whatever they had to do to get a look, that was the bad side.

The people that showed up to help is just amazing, jackslash brought a group from the south as did all kinds off people I have never seen in my life, as crazy as the first two days were the cleanup moved on, we have electric companys from Tenn. and all over Mich. ILL. Ohio (sorry if I missed anybody) and volunterees from as far away as Okl.

Tuesday started off the same three hours sleep then to the war zone, around ten thirty I found myself going down 31 in the ambulance, a tree came the wrong way and hit me, head injury, cracked colar bone bruised back and neck, four hours later I was on my bike headed back to rest then back at it.

Sat they told us there were two thousand volunteers, I am not sure how many but I know they moved complete houses into the street so we could load them up and clear them out.

I have directed traffic, ran a dump truck, back hoe and a payloader got very little sleep seen people lose everything while there neighbors house did not even break the windows.

There are a ton of good people in this world and the bad times brings the good people out,
the looters and sight seeers are a small part and pale in comparison to the good things that have happened here in Kokomo this week.

I will say this and then head back to work, if they tell you to seak shelter or your dog acts like he or she knows something bad is about to happen don't mess around get in a safe place as we were lucky no one died last sunday.

Sorry if I missed anyone but the fog is still pretty bad in my head and I am tired (Josh has not made fun of me as he understands the fog)

We had planned on the H.A.R.F. party last night but this got in the way, we hope everyone had a good time as H.A.R.F. does so much for the fans.

I will update when there is time but for know if you believe in God a prayer for the people of Kokomo would go a long way, this is not the worst one I have seen as the Palm Sunday tornado was much worse but it is going to be months before we get this thing turned around.

Thanks again, and like I have said in the past TELL THEM YOU LOVE THEM WHILE YOU CAN :)

Thank You Jerry for the updates. To you an all the volunteers that were/are involved for helping get Kokomo back in shape. Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you all. Lloyd and Gail

Tumey's 55 11/25/13 1:43 PM

There were 1275 people who signed in as volunteers on Saturday. Thanks to people like Jerry, most of the large debris has been removed. I helped on Saturday and it is amazing what a large number of people, all just doing a little, can accomplish. The before and after in many of the affected areas was amazing. Still much work to be done and several homes will be demolished.

A lot of the pictures floating around were of businesses but believe me there were many homes destroyed and severely damaged. This will be an ongoing issue for months. A big thank you to everyone who has helped and I would ask for continued prayer for those who lost everything.
