Shaheen's Super Weekend This Friday/Sat at Lincoln/J'ville

We have two big events to conclude our 2013 MOWA Season this Friday and Saturday October 11th and 12th. as National Speed Sport News presents the "Shaheen's Super Weekend" at Lincoln and Jacksonville Speedways.

Friday at Lincoln Speedway will feature MOWA Winged Sprints for $2,000 to win. We will also be running a Midget Lite/Lightining sprint class (Ecotechs, Focus, Kenyons, Sportsman and Lightning Sprints... no national midgets) for $300 to win. Also in action will be the Big 10 Super Late Model Season Championship along with UMP Modifieds. This race is being promoted by those of us at Jacksonviile Speedway, so direct any questions our direction.

Saturday at Jacksonville Speedway is the annual Shaheen's Blast From the Past featuring a $4,000 to win MOWA show to conclude the Season Championship. We will be having a vintage race car show and memorabilia display during the day Saturday from 11-4. There will be a 100 lap hornet enduro at 2pm before we start final track prep for the night's events.

We try to include most all of our local classes in the Shaheen's show because people in most every class have a strong family connection to Little Springfield, but we will run the sprint car portion of the show early in the night's events to allow those of you that are most interested in the MOWA show a chance to get home at a decent time while we keep having fun with our other local classes which will include Neal Tire 305 Sprints, 600cc Micros, UMP Modifieds and Street Stocks.

Adult admission is $20 on each night. Racing starts at 7:00 but come early and set up a tail gate and enjoy what should be a beautiful weekend. Having walked the sprint car pits at Tri City Friday, it looks like we should have a great field of cars this weekend. Hope to see you there.

Is Ralph Shaheen of NSSN related to Joe Shaheen?

kdobson 10/7/13 10:36 PM

Re: Shaheen's Super Weekend This Friday/Sat at Lincoln/J'vil

No he isn't. Interesting coincidence though that Ralph's group from NSSN is sponsoring a tribute weekend to Joe.

DiehardRaceFan 10/7/13 11:27 PM

Looking forward to this weekend of winged sprint action. Seen that Terry McCarl is coming this weekend. It will be fun to see who else shows up to take on the best of MOWA and the Midwest.

I'm thinking of coming over to Lincoln Friday night after work. Saturday is up in the air at the moment as I was planning on going to Haubstadt. However,I am working on a project for down the road "In memory of Morty",so it looks like I will be going to East Alton,Illinois on Saturday.I might just want to drive back to J-ville after instead of going to Haubstadt.

I hope Tommy Worley comes over to race, and goes head to head with Jimmy Hurley. That would be an announcers tongue twister. John Mooney told me the other night to bad you couldnt get Van Gurley, and Dean Shirley in that mix as well! :D:D:D

Clarified the Midget Lite rules for Lincoln. Ecotechs, Focus, Kenyon, Sportsman midgets allowed along with Lightning Sprints. No National Midgets.

Teams and Fans traveling here this weekend... Our friends at the Jacksonville Hampton Inn only have 6 rooms left Friday Night and are offering a last minute racer rate of $79 - compared to the normal rate of $139. Just call 217-291-0415 and ask for the 'racer's rate' while they last.

The Hampton Inn is the closest hotel to the Speedway right on Morton Avenue with an Applebee's next door. Remember, the races are in Lincoln Friday night and at Jacksonville SATURDAY. Come to Jacksonville to spend the night after the races at Lincoln and you'll already be here for the great day we have planned for Saturday.

Also... mufflers are required at both Lincoln and Jacksonville.

I wonder who Clauson will be driving for since Donnie Beechler is suppose to be in the 21x.

Not sure but he Tweeted it out today that he is doing both nights. Possibly the car Bell has driven?

Non-wing guys are being well represented here in Lincoln with Clauson in the Buffalo Wild Wings 82, Christopher Bell in the Fox 53, and Tyler "Sunshine" Courtney driving Danny smiths backup car for his first wing start and he won his heat over bell

What a race! T Mac and Brian Brown had absolutely nothing for Christopher Bell in the Fox Bros. #53. Bell, T Mac & Brown. I believe that Jarrod Hull was 4th and Sunshine (in his first winged race) was 5th. BC spun late in the feature while in the top 10. 39 sprints there tonight, many of which will need various parts tomorrow. Tough night for a lot of teams. First Heat won by Critter Malone from 3d followed by T Mac from 10th and 5 cars finishing. Heat #2 won by Hull from 2nd and Cory Bruns 9th to 2nd, with only 5 cars finishing. Third Heat was excellent, with Brian Brown coming from 8th to move into first on the last lap over Jeremy Standridge while BC got by Chris Urish at about the same time for third, from 6th. Heat #4 was won by Sunshine from the pole with Bell from 8th to 2nd. I do not hesitate to recommend that you come to Jacksonville tomorrow (Saturday) if you can. It should be an excellent show, and you remember how close the last show there was.

UPDATE: My apologies to Joe Moughan in the #83. He came from 13th to 4th. That makes the finish Bell, T Mac, Brown, Joey Moughan, Sunshine and Hull

That pretty well sums it up. You could tell early he didn't quite have the ponies Brown or McCarl had (not lacking, just a little less) and when it got a bit slicker Bell just wheeled that car for all it was worth and put it to some darn good winged sprint drivers. Great show tonight. I agree that Jacksonville will be a can't miss show.

Re: Shaheen's Super Weekend This Friday/Sat at Lincoln/J'vil

Saturday at Jacksonville; another entertaining evening. 31 sprints. First Heat - Two damaged too much to continue and one just damaged but continuing on the original start. Terry McCarl 1st from 1st and Joey Moughan 2nd from 2nd. Second Heat - Cory Bruns 1st from 1st and Jimmy Hurley 2nd from 2nd, BC 3rd from 6th. Third Heat - Jeremy Standridge 1st from 2nd and Robbie Standridge 2nd from 1st. Fourth Heat - Brian Brown 1st from 2nd and Chris Urish 2nd from fourth. Only real mover in the 8 car dash was Joey Moughan from 8th to 4th. Feature - Brian Brown 1st from 1st, Jarrod Hull 2nd from 2nd, Terry McCarl 3rd from 5th, BC 4th from 7th, Jeremy Standridge 5th from 3rd and Paul Neinheiser 6th from 18th. It was really fun watching Neinheiser move through the field. The rest of the race was actually more fun than the numbers might indicate, with some really hard racing. All in all, pretty good for a wing 410 race. The first Micro heat was especially good, with Carlee Gress jumping out to the lead from 2nd and then barely fighting off Austin Stewart for the win. The only other time I have seen her race was down at Belleville a couple of weeks ago. Spun about half way through the POWRi Micro feature, went back to 22nd or so, and finished up in the top 10. This young lady can race.

Good racing tonight. The track was in better shape than I thought it would be after an one hour enduro in the afternoon. The weather was absolutely perfect, blue sky and warm weather. As much as I prefer nonwing racing, the last two nights have been more than worth it. You get a good show with MOWA at Lincoln and Jacksonville.

Re: Shaheen's Super Weekend This Friday/Sat at Lincoln/J'vil

Yeah Frank, I think they had the track rolled pretty hard for the enduro race. It got slick, then rubbered up around the bottom. You are right, the weather was perfect, and there was a nice gathering of sprinters. I'm a little sad because it's the last race of the year. I didn't get to as many races this year. There were a lot of rainouts in the spring. Still, I hit most of my old haunts, and caught a few new tracks (Haubstadt, little Belleville, and Wayne Cnty IL). To me 2013 will be remembered for losing some good people.

That is an excellent summary of this year. We can only hope that next year is more positive, with no losses and rain in the middle of the week. Here's to good racing and good people.

Re: Shaheen's Super Weekend This Friday/Sat at Lincoln/J'vil

I would just like to say, the last Shaheen's Super Weekend ran at Little Springfield in 1986 was won by the Stoops Racing team, both nights, with Steve Butler behind the wheel of my 1983 Gambler. I ran the same RR both nights, MC-2 Big Mack. Both nights paid $2500. to win, $1500 for second. Good pay day back then. I have a good picture of Joe Shaheen and our racing team in Victory Lane. The trophy Steve is holding from the last night and the last race ran there, was presented to the Knoxville Hall of Fame in 2005. I have that picture, but do not know how to post it on this site. If some one would like to post it on here, I would be glad to e-mail it to you.. Phil Poor :22:
