Lawrenceburg

What was the crowd last nite? Was it a sellout?

bgbrd 7/10/08 11:18 AM

Re: Lawrenceburg

Hopefully the attendance is better tonight. Too many seats to be a sell out.:rolling

Re: Lawrenceburg

The main grandstands and the pit grandstands were packed, the stands down in turns 1 & 2 were fairly empty

1st trip to L-burg since track rennovation. Absolutely awesome. Someone said earlier this track was not proven yet. It seemed real racy to me last night. Kudos to the folks at L-burg.

Re: Lawrenceburg

Come feature time, the top half of the track was a tough place to make a living. Especially in turns 1 and 2. The guys who went up there and slammed it in would often times pay a price. Stanbrough was a good example. He drove a hell of a race until the right rear disintegrated on the backstretch. It was a heartbreaker for Robert Ballou, as well. With that said, the heats were better than they were Saturday. Maybe we'll have the best of both Worlds, tonight. Looking forward to going back tonight to see the second chapter.

what time did it end last night. thinking about comeing down, but not willing to set there till midnight to watch the features

Re: Lawrenceburg

Right around midnight. Lots of red flags will do that, though. Your call. It is Sprint Week, and for many it's worth the wait between green flags.

No wrong decision, just want you to know that no track can guarantee what time it will end.

It was the 1st USAC race I've been to this year that didn't end before 11 p.m.

I agree. This may be my new favorite track. I'm making the trip back down there this evening.

I think it was done around 11:30 last night.

The sprint feature checkered at 11;20 according to my sundial.

Re: Lawrenceburg

i agree there is nothing you can do about red flags, that being said tracks can do some planning for it. I think we are going to give this place 1 more chance. Yes sprint week is worth it, the other tracks keep things moveing very well, this track just seems to run slow for some reason.

Re: Lawrenceburg

The crowd was slightly larger than last Saturday, which for a weekly show looked impressive. The main and pit grandstands were closed to filled as well as the backstretch parking. Turn two grandstands was maybe/maybe not 1/4 full.

I'm not a promoter and never played one on TV, but given that it was a Wednesday show I would he happy with the turnout.

Re: Lawrenceburg

Rich, I should have said that the mini-sprint feature was over around 12.

Tonight the sprint feature was over a bit earlier. Considering that they started late, it was a very reasonable hour, not quite 11? Forgot to look at my watch.

Not a big fan of those "pringle" shaped tracks. Narrows up to much coming off. Facility wise its all good. Love the fact those smaller teams have won the first two.

Re: Lawrenceburg

The sprint checker flew around 11. I was home by 11:15, twenty minutes earlier than the night before.

I was home in time to see the weather on Channel 9. Watching sports with Denny Jansen one of the final sports items he had was a little 10 second clip of the 'burg in its glory with a Truckers car (Messeral I think), Tracy and another car hot lapping. He didn't go into any detail, just to say the USAC sprint division was invading Lawrenceburg for the second of two nights. Hey! We made it on TV.:applaud:

I agree, the track crew on Wed. was the slowest I have seen in all my days of racing. Fire truck, push truck ambulance,USAC safety truck for a spin with no contact. Everybody was ******** about slow the track crew was.

On Thursday somebody was listening. It was like it was a whole different crew. If there was a spin with no contact, there was only a push truck sent out. After a flip the wrecker went out with the ambulance and fire truck. Even with a late start do to poor track prep, they still got the show over at a decent time.

The 'Burg has my thanks for listening to the fans on Wed. night and Thursday afternoon, great job.

Re: Lawrenceburg

My only gripe about the slowness is that if a car flipped, Is done. Instead of taking it to the infield they will take 3 minutes and haul it all around the track instead of waiting till after the race. It adds up

I will no complain about Bobby and crew, They work their tails off and Im sure have saved some lives and prevented further injury than the accident itself caused in many cases. Its a bigger track, takes a few seconds longer to respond. I've litterally seen them get to the site before a car had stopped tumbling on the old track.

Several of the mentions like the wall on the backstretch infield were done so drivers could get clear without causing a caution. Their coming along.

One thing that did disturb me over the weekend was cars pulling off the exit durring a event under green. This should be a absolute no no.

All said and done. I was more than happy with Burg Sprintweek. The crowd was probably about 4grand thursday and slightly smaller weds. Considering they've been getting almost that for reg shows is just flat awesome as several times at the old facility there were less than half the main grandstand full. Probably 1200??????/

See you at Kamp.

Can't wait to make it to the burg. I was going three or four times a year but with gas the way it is that slowed my drive from going down. Those bleachers in the turns never did have alot of people in them from what I had seen before. I tried sitting there once and it was like sitting in a war zone. Not for me.

Joe, Get there early and go to the end of the turn two grandstand. Plain awesome seating sits high enough your view of the whole track isn't hampered even in the bottom row.

Chuck who's only complaint about the turn seating is they built a handicap platform then put steps on both ends to get up there. LOL

Re: Lawrenceburg

This is just a question, NOT a complaint. I was all over the grounds Thursday, running my mouth as always, and didn't hear if they made any mention of Robbie Stanley. One of my all-time favorites and easily one of the 10 greatest sprint car drivers I've seen in my nearly 50 years of spectating. The Thursday night race was billed as The Robbie Stanley Memorial, right?

Charles Nungester 7/12/08 6:18 PM

Re: Lawrenceburg

I heard them mention it over the pa a couple times but don't remember if it was weds or thurs. They also said since 2001. I believe this race has been held longer than that.

Still, when you hold these memorial or classics with someones name. A little background and rememberance should be given.

Also something that buggs me and has been going on for years is the total lack of promotion at the PA booth. Our next race is July something with the something. Make sure you visit for USAC midget week aug 9th ect. The Magnificent facility line is getting a little old after only being there four times.

Not complaints, Just some observations. Overal;it was excellent but the NEXT RACE and the IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE TONITE, TELL A FRIEND or better yet BRING them line is the one that should be repetitive.

I forgot to add. The cops let the guy with the black Nissan go after they found no drugs. LOL
