Kyle Larson

The Charlotte Observer is reporting that Kyle will be introduced Friday as the driver of cup car #42 in 2014. :6:

Way to quick and way to big of a jump for him. I hope I am wrong but very very few have done that successfully.

Re: Kyle Larson

If that is in fact the case, I hope all works well for the young man. I personally would have preferred he stay in Nationwide for another year. But, not one person with the ownership group for the #42 called and asked my opinion. If they did, it must have been that evening I was busy rearranging my sock drawer and missed the call.:10::3:

Two quote two car owners I know. "The kid just has a way of figuring things out"

Give him a good crew chief and GO!

IMHO he's already got more talent and more racing experience than half the Nascar Field. Why mess around in the minors for two long. $$$ is waiting and we could have KLR in a couple years with more drivers and Sprint Cars!

He could make ten million a year in Endorsements. Never mind what happens on the track but I don't think he's going to be a 20th on back driver right from the start..

Re: Kyle Larson

If you believe in all the young talent in Indiana and USAC, then you have to believe in this kid. If you think sprint/midget drivers are the best in the world, then you have to believe in this kid. I believe the most talented drivers drive open wheel non wing, Larson beat all Indiana and USAC had to offer, won at places he had never seen. When he went to Eldora for the 1st time, he beat all the best in midgets, then sprints, then silver crown. The 1st time on pavement he won, the 1st time in a stock car, yep, he won. I think the talent is off the hook. never thought I would see better than, yes I am going to say it, ....... better than Vogler!!

I was pretty much with you until the last 3 words.

Re: Kyle Larson

Better then Vogler? Rich was the bravest driver I ever saw. He worked for every bit of ability he had. He wasn't born with ,"The Gift". Kyle Larson was born with , "The Gift". He had everything it takes the first time he strapped in a race car.Different drivers, different times, both good.

If he can overcome the mediocrity that is Ganassi in NASCAR, he will prove his talent (if he hasn't already).

I'm just devastated that another young American "Indy Star" has been lost to the Taxi-Cabs.... Oh well, maybe the up and coming Formula Mazda star, Bruncarlo D'Giamati, from Este Del Casa, Argentina will have a productive rookie year in the IRL !!! Just *** are Penske and Ganassi thinking about!!! Unbelievable!!!!!! Indy racing made these two household names and they're paying the sport back by recruiting the best American talent and putting them in Taxi-Cabs!!!!!!! WHY????

Re: Kyle Larson

I am happy for Larson and hope he does well.

If I owned both an INDY car team(s) and a NASCAR team(s), I would have 4 cars in each organization offer rides Dave Darland, Tracy Hines, Jon Stanbrough and Damion Gardner. That would be fun to watch.

" if you are good enough - you are old enough" and probably now - we in New Zealand won't get to see Kyle again - you had to be here last year to realise what that kid did - let him go at it -

Bwcause Larson, like Jeff Gordon 20 years ago don't have $3,000,000 or more in his wallet and Jaime Alguersuari is a F1 washout that just had bad luck.

racephoto1 8/28/13 7:02 AM

Re: Kyle Larson

Kyle is going where the money is. Ganassi and Penske run Indy Cars because they love the sport. They run NASCRAP for the money. There's a big difference in those two.

I am a big fan of Kyle's, but if he puts the #42 car in the winners circle I will be shocked and amazed! That car/team needs more than a great driver like Kyle to be winners!

Best of luck Kyle, I'll be rootin' for you!

Rich only wore a size 9 shoe, so not that tough...but seriously folks. 2 MAJOR racing talents, a generation or 3 apart, so there can't be a heads up challenge between the 2, just be fair enough to say that Kyle will do great in the #42 and the best part of the deal is that sprint car racing will get some great press once Kyle is up front and all the TV talking heads will be shouting about where he came from. Like Rich Vogler, or even Ken Schraeder or Tony Stewart, i don't think there's anything Kyle can't race and be competitive in it. How about we just sit back and wait and see, and not beat him down before he can prove himself, but cheer on another dirt tracker getting the big chance, i wish alot of our dirt track guys would get that chance. bob:8:

I respect your passion for Vogler, and would never argue with anyone that considered him one of the all time greats!! Age has a lot to do with "all time greatest" discussions. The best of one era to the next is hard to debate! But, this Larson kid is the best today of the talent young enough. If DD was 22 he would be gone to NASCAR!

Now I will finally have a reason to watch NASCAR again. Larson has earned this opportunity - let's see what he can do!

Re: Kyle Larson

Kyle Larson is being taken to the next level simply to prop up a failing team, Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing. With an owner like Stewart-Hass or Hendrick Racing it might work. Kyle is only in his second year in NASCAR. He is eight in points in Nationwide. He simply is not ready. Not with this team.

You are 100% on every aspect of your post. Some here are speaking of Rich Vogler, I remember when he was running Indy, it sure gave me a renewed interest, same with the time Jack Hewitt was at Indy. Kyle will give us a reason to see what he can do in the Sprint Cup.

I hope he does well, and becomes a winner right off the get go, unless of course some European Indy driver with lets say with a well known actress for a wife brings in a boat load, no a yacht load, of cash and boots him out, oh wait that has never happened before has it? NASCAR bah humbug

midgetmaniac 8/28/13 4:09 PM

Re: Kyle Larson

I think he is like many have said is the best young talent since Gordon. Ganassi had to do this or he was going to lose him. Indy does not get it, American race fans want to watch a race with American announcers with American drivers mixed in with a few of the top talent from overseas. Until they figure that out , they will play second fiddle to Nascar. Penske and Ganassi are trying their best to ruin Nascar the same way they ruined Indycar by taking the money over talent. Let's see who wins this battle. We all know that the young talent we watch on a weekly basis regardless of the racing background they come from is better that some of the drivers we see getting into the Indycar rides. I'm not saying that foreign drivers are not talented , I just saying that the depth of the talent pool is not reflective of who should be in an Indycar. I look forward to seeing Kyle at the next level because as my favorite driver is on the downturn(Gordon) my other favorite driver is about to take the Nascar world for a wild ride. I hope JPM goes back to Indy because that is where he should have been all along.

Ok, you've got me confused. Ganassi is replacing Montoya with Larson. How is that taking "money over talent"? Unless of course you think Montoya has the talent and Larson has the money.:17:

No , sorry for the confusion , I don't think it is happening in this case at all. I'm referring to the overall big picture of how these 2 owners changed the way drivers are able to get a ride at the next level. Kyle was going to get a ride regardless. JPM is a quality driver in a Indycar. You will be hard pressed to find a driver that was as smooth as he was in his Indy 500 victory that I watched firsthand.

If this is true, I believe the the sponsor has spoken but, I also believe they have picked a very talented driver. Heck Montoya has not done much in the car so, what could it hurt at this point.

According to Fox Sports, Kyle Larson will drive the Target No. 42 on the Sprint Cup circuit next season for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing. A source with the World of Outlaws indicated to us this week that Larson is considering putting a WoO team together and putting Shane Stewart in the car. Stewart is driving Larson's car, which is owned by Rico Abreu's father, in select shows in the last two months of the season. We will be following this story over the next week.

That's one thing that ticks me off about Jeff Gordon. He did not help anyone out as far as a team, where he came from. Just kept the money in his pocket. :7:

Now the next question is if EGR will run Kyle in a few races at the end of this season (not in the 42), like other owners have done in the past with drivers-in-waiting. The thing they have to be careful of is not running enough races with Kyle this year so as to not jeopardize his Rookie status for next year. If so, what races would EGR run him in? Martinsville, Taladega, Charlotte? Pure speculation on my part. Fun to think about though!

Awesome news on the WoO team too, now Kyle needs a USAC team as well!

If I remember correctly , didn't JG help some young sprint shoes in the mid 90's that ended up being a flop. Their names escape me right now. JG is my favorite driver , but he could have and is capable of giving back more to open wheel racing around the country.

Re: Kyle Larson

As far as I recall, JG pretty much turned his back on short tracking once he hit "the big time" ala Mario a generation earlier.Fortunately, others like AJ,TS, KK did not.

It's official. I think TSR missed an opportunity. Mr. Larson is on his way to fame and fortune. The part I like is when he is interviewed, it's very obvious that his heart is in the open wheels. I hope he will still be allowed to run them when ever he can. Go get 'em future champ!:8::22:
