Who all will be making the journey to Springfield for the Tony Bettenhausen Memorial 100on the 17th?

We'll be headed South to the Illinois State Fair with the camper and boat in tow on Wednesday morning and settin' up camp on the Fairgrounds. Gonna' do some fishin' and relaxin' (might even have a cold beer or two, too) on Lake Springfield 'till Friday evening. Then the racin' begins.

We'll do both POWERi National Midget shows, one at Macon and one at Lincoln and the Bettenhausen Memorial 100 on The Mile on Saturday afternoon and the Allen Crowe Memorial 100 also on The Mile on Sunday afternoon.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

I'll be in the Hardy Boys #15 Beast for the crown race on Saturday and the Brad Hill Racing #71 Ford Fusion on Sunday for the ARCA race,see ya there !!

Bloomington Friday night, then drive to Springfield. As soon as Springfield is over , I'll drive my a$$ of to Indy to see bikes on the Indy mile. Also Shane Cockrum, good luck Sunday at Springfield. If you have a chance talk to AJ Fike about the ARCA car, he runs pretty good at Springfield.

We always like to look around the fair. Try to find a good breaded tenderloin, last time there I found one about the size of a garbage can lid!
I have always had a great time there. If you have younger race fans this is an event they would really enjoy.

Comming that way for the mile and the midgets.

This will be our 42nd yearly visit to The Illinois State Fair dating back to when I was a very small child. I thought that was a great record until a close friend of my Wife's family told me he's been to every Champ Car race held during the State Fair at Springfield since 1947. This gentleman is 89 years of age and drives 135 miles one way BOTH DAYS for the Fair races. I can only hope............

Not just because we've been to so many, but it is a great place to take the young folks. There are a myriad of things for the kids to do at the Fair and maybe they will become race fans. Specifically fans of the Silver Crown Series!

It's great to see the folks roll into the campgrounds on Friday for the races. Several members of race teams camp on the Fairgrounds over race weekend and it's fun to walk around and talk to those guys, as well.

Gail an I plan on hitting 5 races in 3 days. Depending on money an how we feel of course. Go to Macon, Springfield, Lincoln, Springfield again on Sunday an end the night at VCS. Just hope we can be healthy enough. Hope to meet some new folks at the races. Lloyd & Gail

The nice thing about Springfield is that it ends early in the afternoon. Still plenty of time to see the rest of the fair.

Best to Shane both days. The best food in the state is right across the street from the grandstands. Everything at the beef or pork stand is locally produced and served by the producers. This was my first USAC race over 40 years ago and I still remember seeing Unser and Foyt and Andretti and Granitelli and all the others out there on the front straight like it was yesterday. The best of America is USAC at the Illinois state fair.

Hopefully there will be a good turnout this Saturday. It's still up in the air if I can make it or not. I've got to follow the doctors schedule and this Saturday was spoken for a couple of months ago specifically for me. Got to do what you have got to do.

Lincoln for midgets on Friday, then my favorite day of the year at the Bettenhausen on Saturday. It's like Christmas in August.

Those of us who live in and around Springfield know how unusual this is. Krista Lander, head of the WICS Channel 20 sports department, had a feature this evening on Saturday's Silver Crown race, including an interview with last year's winner, A. J. Fike. I don't remember the last time there was actual coverage before the race, and that after the race is usually pretty slim. She even mentioned the ARCA race. I encourage those of you who live in and around Springfield to join me in emailing Channel 20 to thank them for the story. Perhaps a response will encourage them to cover a little more racing.

And WFMB AM did a great interview with AJ Fike this morning on AM SPringfield with Sam Madonia.

I understand our own Shane Cockrum will be heard on the syndicated Finish Line Radio show sometime NEXT weekend as a preview for DuQuoin.

Their Facebook page is looking for fun pictures of the state fair. Someone posted a picture of the trophy that AJ won last year. Maybe we should bombard their Facebook page with pics from the Silver Crown. It can't hurt getting pics of the cars out there for people to see.

Going to the Silver Crown race for first time, then off to Macon for Powri that night! Never been to two different tracks to watch races in the same day, really looking forward to it!

#63 Ballou Robert. That was what I was told that he would be driving that car at Springfield unless something has changed and so far I haven't heard anything had changed.

#43 Ricky Nix Racing should be there and should be driven by Kody Swanson.

I apologize if these are not still the combinations of car/driver. I've been flip flopping on keeping close tabs on this years event. I will be watching IOW for results as soon as I am conscience enough tomorrow afternoon to understand what I am looking at.
