Re: 5:45PM Terre Haute

Got there at 4 pm left at 5:30 Nice Crowd 23 cars thought that was a shame not a big Wing fan but thought I would go close to home but I was not about to spend the money for that few of cars the Track people were trying hard to get the track raceable but just heard on Dirtfan.com Paul May said it looked to be at least an hour or two before a car would be on the track Hate it for the fans but glad I left
oh 27 cars total with all the wing racing in Indiana this weekend I would have thought more would be here look out Paragon might be lucky to get 20

What is an acceptable amount of cars to go see a race? 27 is a good car count.

Heck Chris you are one of the guys talking on Dirtvision when they said the All-Stars were racing for 50,000 Dollar point Fund you would think they would have 35 to 45 cars most nights

Talked to my friend down at the track, seems they are racing (don't know for sure), one thing, won't have to water the track much today. I wouldn't imagine that the fireworks and all could get in by midnight deadline.

Actually you are very wrong that would be called gossip the drivers wanted to race but the kept the drivers waiting and not giving them a straight answer for hours. These drivers worked there asses off to put on a good race.

No, they didn't. The drivers drove the race cars, the TRACK CREW worked their asses off. Dewease, Blaney, Hannigan and Danny Smith wanted to load up.
As for Chris and his crew and DHK et al GREAT JOB, and for the the fans that stayed for the 12 Hours of Terre Haute good for you too!

Re: 5:45PM Terre Haute

Well I'm pretty sure that's 4 drivers and I was in the pits with the other drivers and the ones who went out on the track and told the track that they wanted to race but I'm not going to debate it someone is always going to cry about something so neverminds the drivers who are still driving home right now and have to be at paragon tomorrow .... I guess someone will still find something to complain about on here.

Well now I'm pretty sure you can count. I also spent time in the back, ask Blaney about his baseball comparison with Brian.
I'm not crying, I got there and they raced. It took a while but they got it in, not because of the drivers but because the track crew went above and beyond what they HAD to do. Most promoters would have said at 9 PM pull the plug.
I know what I heard from the guys in Nomex and, by the way, ask Webb why he had to go back and tell most of them to unload.

Re: 5:45PM Terre Haute

went via a blgtn rainout and was getting discouraged when they started so late. Let me just say this, I'm no big wing fan, or at all for that matter, but tim schaeffer put on an absolute winged sprint car driving clinic in the 83 car. Nobody else was in the same league. He lapped most the field twice up to about 7th I think, and some were no slouches like bill rose and other all star regulars. If it wasn't for the reds and yellows I believe he would have lapped everyone. That maniac never lifted slightly for thirty laps and worked traffic better than perfect even through the couple of holes. All I can say is wow, that was the most blistering fast track I've ever seen. Wish it was a non wing show would've waited longer to see it happen DHK did their deal and got it done! It separated the men from the boys. There were a few paragon guys that attempted I think they probably wont again, kinda scary.

Re: 5:45PM Terre Haute

All I can say is great job DHK, the track was so horrible when I got there at 5:00 they really worked there butts off making a awsome race surface out of what looked like a flooded plowed field. They worked the track in and asked us drivers to go out and pack it in some and have a hot lap session to feel if it was going to be safe and it was great and was pretty smooth. It was my first race ever with a wing and my first time on a half mile track I have to say it was a blast that I will never forget even though I had some troubles in the beginning of the night getting the car handling but we got it working a whole lot better in the B, I must say that was the funnest race I have run and actually wish I could afford to do it full time.

During the time when the track crew were working the asses off getting the winged drivers a track that was to their liking, about an hour and a half before they were actually out there on the track, the opportunity came to do some Non-Wing conversion, with a few of the frustrated wing devotees that were surrounding us. The point on the table was "Right now, if you gave us drivers like Robert Ballou, Jesse Hockett, Jon Stanbrough, Daron Clayton, Levi Jones, Hunter Schuerenberg, Dickie Gaines, etc., instead of sitting here wondering whether or not we were going to race or not, these guys would have already ran this thing in and you'd be watching racing." There was no real argument from these guys. Just agreement that that would be nicer than the current situation was.

Again, Novotney, Wolfe and their crew put in a Herculean effort to get this thing to where it could be run and DHK even went to the lengths of getting the city to give them a curfew extension, just so this huge crowd of people could see the show they came to see. And when it was ready, man did Tim Shaffer ever put a beatdown on the entire field. The Bloomington Speedway 4th of July race is where we would have rather been, but this turned out to be a pretty good Plan B. Better than I expected.

Thats BS. They could have run Kokomo in a couple of weeks ago but the drivers decided and voted to go home.

Re: 5:45PM Terre Haute

Winged wienies huh? Compare the lap times at any track of your choosing, & you might see why the need for a better surface. I like non wing racing, but can understand, & appreciate, the difference in the speed a winged car carries versus a traditional sprint car. Even Hockett said (on The Jackslash Show ) running his winged 360 makes him a better driver, because it is then easier to run slower with his non wing car. I'm amazed at the amount of people "hatin' on" the winged driver's....let's support SPRINT CAR racing, as a whole!
