Trucks on Speed at Eldora

Speed Channel has the trucks at Eldora right now, I for one hope this is a huge success.

22 second laps. Wow! I wonder if anybody knew they were going to be that slow?

OMG The engines are getting dirt on them .

SpfldMile 7/23/13 7:52 PM

Sllllliiiiiiicckk!

With the format, I would have liked to see them run one of the miles. Tony Stewart doesn't own a mile, though.

It's gonna take some good driving to win, it'll just be at a slow pace.

I'll tune in to Speed and watch this tomorrow night. One way or another, it's going o be interesting. It'll either be a total disaster or who knows, maybe there'll be Larson-Bloomquist showdown at the end. That could be good.

Tracy Hines is second quick, to this point. The sprint car drivers are most all towards the top of the speed list.

The Joke of it is, We're going to keep our bodies straight, Run Windshields and have 3500 pds cars. Shoudl have just let em make a Truck Body on a LM chassis and gone with it.

You can't have tacky mud with windshields.

Whats funny is all these Napcar People are going to see cars running six seconds faster in the LM race..

IDK, Might be interesting if it isn't all yellows.

Re: Trucks on Speed at Eldora

i cant believe how slooow the lap times are i would have thought they would have done some different things to the trucks like maybe coilovers better spring rates, something to make them drive more like a late model ... trying to keep them straight running the top side is going to be a one lane mess tommorrow night.... the latemodel race is definetly going to be the headline of the show

Simple fact we're going to expose a lot of race fans to dirt racing that have never seen it before. That can't be bad!

I was actually expecting a Eldora Push Truck to pass em under green.

Maybe someone could help me out here about tomorrow night...

Is there going to be that "boogity, boogity, boogity" crap?

"lucky dog", wave around crap, get their lap back?

phantom cautions for debris?

How come this is done in stages, let them boys make pit stops, under green!

Newport13 7/23/13 10:24 PM

I'll wait til after the race before I dump on it. I applaud the effort. Good to see them take a chance with something new.

Nascar keeps them within the confines if their rulebook so with3 ft truck arms dont expect tons of bite. I do believe that it may possibly turn into a good race Tom night. We'll see who has great finesse and can balance a ill handling machine. Id rather have it that way anyways,we all knew they weren't gonna break records and if it was tacky it woulda been one lane. Hopefully everyone can relax and enjoy and no critique everything about it

Does anybody know what kind of times that the street stocks run at Eldora?

Re: Trucks on Speed at Eldora

The final practice was getting really good... I think the show tomorrow night will be pretty good. The late model race was coming down to a good finish before Matt Miller and Jeep got caught up in a wreck with lapped traffic with just four laps to go.

ISF 7/23/13 11:22 PM

Re: Trucks on Speed at Eldora

Speed really has little to do with good racing. I've seen some great ARCA races on the dirt miles at Springfield, Du Quoin and The Indy Mile and those ARCA cars are 3-4 seconds a lap slower than the generic dirt late models. I've yet to see a really good generic dirt late model race on any of the 1 Mile Dirt tracks.

The NASCAR trucks may or may not put on a great show tomorrow night but either way it will have little to do with how fast or slow they are.

Actually, I think it has the potential to be one of the worst things to happen to dirt racing. If the racing is agonizingly slow, dusty, no passing, full of spins, etc. can you imagine how the naysayers will gloat and most importantly what a horrible first impression for those unfamiliar with dirt racing. I am reminded of how one of my acquaintanances remarked about a televised ASCS winged show: "track looked like asphalt and where is the passing". Television is no guarantee of positive exposure for short track dirt racing.

lazyifoto 7/23/13 11:38 PM

Re: Trucks on Speed at Eldora

Here is my prediction, As soon as the dust starts flying all the NASTARD fans that don't breath dirt will run to their cars and drop their polo shirts of at the dry cleaners on the way home ..... I would say that several of the Eldora stocks could win this race if they were allowed to compete.

johnnythunderhead 7/24/13 12:15 AM

I suspect a good high school 800 meter runner would win what with the lap times being run!

Is it just me or does anybody else get the feeling that TV coverage and overflow attendance by a bunch of napcar fans will 1day lead to the paving of Eldora?

It would appear there is some interest in this race or this would not be being read on the fourth page.
Seems like a good thing to me. The more racing I can go to the better. It beats sitting at home reading message boards.

johnnythunderhead 7/24/13 2:29 AM

I care less who sanctions the race; pick up trucks were built for pushing off race cars/ and i'll be damned if i'll pass up a race involving racecars in order to watch pick up trucks stumble around a track

ShamrockRacin'48G 7/24/13 8:01 AM

For real excitement, put the top 4 in Eldora stocks at the tail of the field, wow can you imagine? lol, I think they do 22second laps or better...but really I'd rather this deal be a success than a failure...

Simply getting rid of the windshields and letting the air pass through to the spoilers would shave over a second but no.

I can honestly say I don't get it, But i do hope its a good race.

Re: Trucks on Speed at Eldora

It is a curiousity or novelty for Nascar fans, nothing more. It is new to see them run on dirt. It might be the only dirt race those fans have ever attended. Let them have their fun. Dirt track fans recognize it for what it is, inferior racing to what is normally ran at Eldora. I might watch it if I am not doing anything else, but I don't think it will have any lasting impact on racing.

Well, they weigh about 3000 lbs less:3:

Look, the trucks will be slow, but you better believe there will be some tough racing going on, and a lot of yellows. As a pavement super latemodel fan this race on dirt will be interesting.

That said, I'd still rather see a non-winged sprint show at Eldora than the trucks.

I found it rather interesting, watching these guys get some time on a real race track, and learning the difficulty of keeping a race car under you on a not so sticky surface, Larsen was beginning to get with it, as well as Newman, it'll be even more interesting to see who they have on staff to do the play by play, bet there won't be any suit and tie guys and gals! I'll watch it, til I pass out! Bob

Re: Trucks on Speed at Eldora

Oh, I will watch it. It would be nice to see multiple grooves that used to be the norm. Or at least a cushion 10' from the wall to begin the heats. I thought they had some great new hybrid form of dirt we were going to see this year?:15:
