The Midget series, featuring full size and power midgets, have contested just three events so far this season due to rainouts. With three races in the book, the series has found three different winners in victory lane: Darren Hagen, Shane Hollingsworth, and Billy Wease. The series championship points title chase will also heat up this weekend, with any driver currently in the top 10 within striking distance of leaving the points leader. The current points leader is Kansas, Illinois' Colton Cottle. Can minis run this Brian?

Re: Midgets Return To Montpelier This Sat., July 27
Mini sprints, focus and Ecotecs are welcomed
Posted via Mobile Device |
Absolutely. For the minis, focus, and echotech, no engine rules, any fuel or fuel delivery, no minimum weight, and any right rear tire on a 12" rim. We've found it levels the playing field pretty quickly between the engines.
For full size production Midgets, minimum weight is 1,050, a maximum 10" right rear rim, and one right rear for heats and features. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Midgets Return To Montpelier This Sat., July 27
Is it 1 right rear only for the midgets or all cars?
Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Midgets Return To Montpelier This Sat., July 27
Yes, it is one right rear for all cars.
We have an open tire rule (brand and compound) Also, we should have American Racer tires available at the track. Thanks to Tony Rose and American Racer for being the presenting trophy sponsor of the Midget series. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Midgets Return To Montpelier This Sat., July 27
I think it is just great that you guys are sticking with this interpretation of "midgets" and that you are averaging 24.67 cars per race. We did the same thing rules wise with a midget series here in Missouri for a few years but threw in the towel when only one lightning sprint would consistently show up to run with us. Even though we were on dryslick quarter miles 99% of the time, and even though a 1000cc chain drive car won half of our A features, the rest of the lightning sprint guys convinced themselves that they couldn't be competitive.
Hats off to Montpelier and hats off to the guys who are actually doing their part and showing up with racecars. Keep up the great work. |
Re: Midgets Return To Montpelier This Sat., July 27
Midgets compete first. Usually around 9:00-9:30. We try to run a fast program.

Re: Midgets Return To Montpelier This Sat., July 27
Expect to see the RT Racing, Becker Painting, Cafι Waldorf, Pioneer Pole Buildings #1 of Trevor Kobylarz out at Montpelier today. ARDC has a 6 week hiatus since Mercer rained out last Saturday, and Trevor has the itch to race. He is making the 10 hour trip out there. Just talked to him a little bit ago and he's 2 hours from the place.

Water truck needed after hot laps. Approximately 14 midgets and 10 mini sprints.

Dry slick huggy pole heat races. Mini sprints are at a disadvantage.

Re: Midgets Return To Montpelier This Sat., July 27
By my count only 7 minis others are probably Focus. Track Just the way minis like it! Atleast 3 minis (Dallas hunt, Alex Watson and Rob Winks) transfer directly to A. Good quality field, competitive heat races. Some strong full midgets in the B.

One thing that has not been mentioned is that the 20 lap feature went green to checkered (after the double flip following the 'no start') and all the minis/Focus finished on the lead lap. Given that the mini's run the low groove and the full midgets have several lanes to run outside, everyone has plenty of racing room and nobody is holding up anyone else. Track prep before the feature gave the midgets more bite at the beginning, and as expected they were able to use their superior HP to get to the front. In our visits to Montpelier last year a slicker track evened out the cars as HP was less of an issue. Regardless, we had a great time Saturday, enjoying the big car count and crowd, and look forward to coming back in August.
