Eldora truck race

Any news on any ringers that may run the truck race? I've heard Larson is running.

Eldora's web site has the Entry List. Watch for Scott Bloomquist, Jeff Babcock both winners and have many starts there, Hines, Larson, Dave Blaney & The Dillon boys should all be on the watch list.

The Dayton Daily News said in an article on Sunday the race is sold out. I guess I just don't get it. This has absolutely no appeal to me. Johnny Sauter was quoted today in the same paper saying he didn't think it will be the quite the show everyone is expecting. After watching video of Tony's test there last year, compared to either a wing or non wing sprint car, or even a good late model show, I think this would be a snoozefest. I'll probably watch on ESPN, but definitely wouldn't drive the 30 minutes to the track from home to watch it.

I'd love to go watch Kyle Larson clean house at Eldora this weekend. And if I could, I would drive the 4 hours there to see it.

I would like to see someone get a couple of the dirt stock racers ( Barny Craig or Ernie Woodard )in trucks as a dirt stock is the closest thing to a NASCAR truck....I think even the " best" Late model or Sprint car driver maybe out to lunch on this one....

If you go this weekend, then you'll miss it. The race is Wednesday night, July 24th.

Heres the possitive I see in it. Some local dirt trackers have a chance to crack into a Napcar points race, Not only that, have a legit chance to win. IM really surprised ARCA didn't try to get in on this.

Re: Eldora truck race

I'd love to go. I think it will be interesting because with that small of a track, they'll be forced to go at least two wide through the turns. Not the usual one groove, and drag race down the straights. It's got potential to be pretty cool. Of course I'd love to see Hines or Larson win.

Re: Eldora truck race

I'm kinda' surprised that Frank Kimmel hasn't been offered a ride for the Eldora NASCAR truck race. Over the last 15 years Frank has been the most successful driver on dirt while piloting an ARCA car.

I would also agree with a previous comment that winged or wingless sprinters, midgets, Silver Crown or dirt late model experience logically would probably not equate over to a big heavy NASCAR truck to any great degree. But then again, a racer is a racer is a racer and Kyle Larson is definitely a racer.

I've read the qualifying procedure on Eldora's website several times and haven't been able to discern whether or not some trucks running the full truck schedule will be locked in with owner points. If that is the case there will be precious few at large starting positions available to guys like Hines, Larson, Landers and Bloomquist.

Regardless of whether this race pans out in the future it will garner the biggest crowd and the most media attention in the history of Eldora Speedway.

Re: Eldora truck race

Only the top 20 in owner points are locked in the race.

I was curious as to who are the ringers, since I know nothing about the truck regulars.

Here are the drivers who are not in the top 25 in the truck points:

Austin Dillon Welcome, North Carolina Chevrolet RSS Racing Susan Bates
Chris Jones Forest, Virginia Chevrolet RSS Racing Pam Sieg
Clay Greenfield Clarksville, Tennessee RAM TBA Clay Greenfield
Dave Blaney Hartford, Ohio Ford Reese Towpower Brad Keselowski
Jared Landers Batesville, Arkansas Chevrolet Mark Martin Automotive & Peak Oil Eddie Sharp
Jeff Babcock Wayne, Ohio Chevrolet BulkMaterialLift.com Chris Fontaine
Jennifer Jo Cobb Kansas City, Kansas RAM Driven2Honor.org Jennifer Jo Cobb
Jimmy Weller III Hubbard, Ohio Chevrolet TBA Ken Smith

Norm Benning Level Green, Pennsylvania Chevrolet TBA Norm Benning
Ryan Newman South Bend, Indiana Chevrolet Oral B – Aggressive Design Steve Turner
Scott Bloomquist Mooresburg, Tennessee Toyota Toyota Care Kyle Busch

All of the above might not be ringers, since some of them have a few points in the truck standings, but are not in the top 25.

I was surprised to note that 7 of the top 25 don't have rides.

Don't over look Kenny Schrader! The man has a lot of laps on dirt and knows how to get around Eldora.

I have a feeling it's going to hard packed blacksphalt type track. I got to wondering about replacing the windshields with dirt screens so I contacted someone I know that works for a truck team. He said they were leaving the windshields in with a mud deflector on the hood. That makes me think they aren't planning on a lot of mud flying around.

Re: Eldora truck race

I thought i remember reading this past winter that the trucks would be comparable to driving a dirt modified. Hence giving Schrader an advantage. I also recall seeing Matt Crafton race a mod at volusia during speedweeks. Not sure of his background but dont ever recall seeing him race a dirt mod there any other time. The dillon boys raced mods back in the day. Hopefully its a good race.

I think that's going to depend on what tire "Goodjunk" brings for them to run and a lot on the weather. I think Napcar better have a back up plan on the tire deal, just in case. Just Sayin...remember Indy a few years ago?

Bloomquist would be the favorite to win in my opinion. He has put a lot of effort into this race. They've been testing and I'm sure bloomer has put a lot of input into the setup. He's one of the smartest chassis builders in the last 10 years. Not to mention he is in the best equipment you could possibly want.

Johnny Sauter says it'll be terrible racing. I tend to agree with him. Can't imagine a 3600lb car on dirt.

Re: Eldora truck race

That test is at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Bloomquist, both Blaney's, both Dillon's, Hines and Kenny Wallace are among the 20 locked in because they are driving trucks in the top 20 in points. Larson, Newman, Jared Landers, Schrader and Babcock will all have to race their way in. I think this first one will be really interesting, but rumor has it, it is all a test to see how things work, before they put the cup cars on the dirt at Bristol in a year or two.
My money is a Larson/Bloomquist battle for the win. And lets hope it is Larson.

thebus79h 7/22/13 10:27 PM

I'm glad they are thinking outside the box. I'm going Tuesday to check it out and watch the late model race. Gotta find the good in everything.

I hope bloomer can win it. NASCAR fans already think of Larson as a NASCAR driver, not a dirt "ringer". But if a "dirt only" driver can win, it will really shut the NASCAR fans up lol

If you are wondering why there is not more active Sprintcar drivers in the lineup. $30,000 to rent a truck ride. $60,000 is a whole season for most Sprintcars.
