Gas City bleachers

Great start to Sprint week! But I think the stands at G.C. should be dismantled and sent to Guantanamo to be used as an interrogation/torture device. Would be more "P.C." than waterboarding; and get better results!

So what your saying is the racing was great. I agree. As for the fluff, get over it. Your not in a hospital, at war, or stuck in a pit. In other words, drop the negativity and celebrate the positive. You got to a great race!

Always try to post positive. But tried to inject a little constructive criticism with some humor. Definitely time for an upgrade.

I would much rather be on the crappy stands at any race track than being stuck at work...

"He who is w/o sin cast the first stone". Never criticized anything before, addictedtodirt? I, personally, agree that the stands at GC are very uncomfortable! Actually, it is probably you who should probably lighten up and allow people to express their opinions on "AN OPINION FORUM"!! After reading Hot Rod K's post and then yours, I would say it is you who brought the negativity (and now I'm adding to it:14:) to this thread. I'm sure most us saw the humor in Hot Rod K's post.

What really does not make sense, is several years back they built addional bleachers on the east end. And those bleachers are just like the existing bleachers. ???

Re: Gas City bleachers

I am sure that if you would give them the money ,they would gladly build new bleachers..Stay home in your recliner and watch T.V.......I`ll be at the races ......

Been to several tracks with less than perfect seating but great racing. Life is short and every race missed is a memory I don't have. 53 cars no red flags and awesome racing glad I was there in those stands last night. Go Stanbrough make it 2 for 2 tonight, Good Lord willing i'll be there for another great Sprintweek event. Thanks to all who put these on it's the highlight of the wife and i's summer. :6:

I didn't know we go to races to set in lazy boys. This is getting about as old as the Danica Patrick trash talking.

Actually Timbo, the current seating isn't all that uncomfortable for guys like you, Hoover, Karston, Justin Bieber, & Mickey Rooney. ;):D;)

I may be wrong on this but I think they had new bleachers lined up and the city would not let them replace them, you better enjoy what we have as the Gas City I69 speedway could be gone soon.

The bleachers do suck. I know that the non winger fans get upset when facts are presented to them, but the bleachers do suck. Just like the follow the leader parade in the race.:44:

Re: Gas City bleachers

No doubt a lot of small dirt tracks were constructed before admission prices were $25.00 to attend.

I think of the dirt tracks I attend in non-wing racing, Terre Haute is one of the best for facilities. I usually sit west of the grandstand and the seats actually have aisles so you can get out of your seat. The seats are actually wide enough to sit on. They have civilized rest rooms.

In the 60's and 70's it didn't seem you were in your seat as long during the event. Usually sprint car races didn't have support classes so the show was more focused, and just about sprint car racing. Much better announcing in my opinion, announcers used to make it interesting. It's not uncommon now to sit for 5 or 6 hours and the only time the announcers talk much about the drivers are when the cars are running.

Most bleachers are bad, it's why I'm found in the pits a lot, never been in the stands at GC. What got me was the dust flying around,:19: couldn't see last 1/2 of the race. Been to 4 races in Ind & 2 were so dusty couldn't watch the race. The other 2 were paved, like being in MI, Jiggs usually has that track in good shape, slipped up Fri. Get'em next time Bubb:6:

johnnythunderhead 7/15/13 2:08 PM

they're excellent compared to those at kokomo (that don't even have hand railings!)

the racing was off the hook awesome at both tracks though!

OH. AND MICKEY ROONEY WAS A HOT SHOT MIDGET RACER IN "THE BIG WHEEL" HAD TO BEEN MADE IN THE 30'S OR 40'S I RECON, TWAS A GOOD FLICK!

I never used to think about their bleachers until I read the complaints on here. Now its in my head for a brief moment when I stand up to stretch. The great time and the racing always more than makes up for the bleachers. The railings are a plus.

Re: Gas City bleachers

I am thankful I don't have to crawl to those "terrible" seats; they have railings that I can go up and down safely....it is heck to get old!!!! I also appreciate it that I can go back to the pits prior to the race starting by purchasing a 50/50 ticket at pit gate. Thank you Gas City!!!

Re: Gas City bleachers

@Joe Kidd..I dont know what race you attended Friday night but it def wasnt a parade..there was a lot of passing..the track dried out early yes but thats what happens with the sun beating down and 53 cars taking single qualifying runs..but they got it worked out as the night went a long..

I guess people go to races to judge bleachers now, lol. Maybe you need to get Speed Channel or JackSlash and watch at home in your recliner. But Gas City's seats are pretty good compared to lets say.... Butler Speedway.

Yes, it was a good movie. It was made in 1949. Mickey Rooney is now 93 years old. Made news a couple of years ago when he testified about elder abuse. Famous for his numerous marriages to a bevy of beauties from the Hollywood scene.

I would say the bleachers at Pennsboro, West Virginia would make the bleachers at Gas City look like the turn 2 luxury suites at Indy.

I've never complained about the seating accommodations of any track since visiting good ol' Pennsboro a couple of times.

Were you sitting in a tree on the mountain by the track???? ..... I miss that place, it's a shame to see the pictures of it wasting away these days

johnnythunderhead 7/17/13 1:56 AM

wow, are they still racin at pennsboro?/ I once climbed the big hill above the bleachers and had my lunch up there while watching fields of 20 plus late models running 20 lap heat races high as can be!

oh, and also saw donny kreitz win $25,000.00 g's there another time in what I believe was the 1st of the big paying sprint car races!

quite a place indeed!
