Not one post about "the night before the 500"

I purposely set back and waited for over a week to see if someone would post something about "The night before the 500"

Nope! Not one post! In the recent past, this used to be a prestigious event.... now, not one word of it on this website! Not even a post from USAC with the story and the results. Like it never happened?

I have a feeling that the USAC pavement midgets are on the same slope that the USAC pavement sprints were on a couple of years ago.
Wouldn't you think USAC would have learned from their previous errors and made some changes so that the midget series wouldn't suffer the same coincident?

There were only 22 cars at this race with 18 in the feature....a few short years ago, there were over 50 cars at that race from all over the country....
Is the writing on the wall? I understand that the memorial day weekend is one of the best weekends in Indy for watching races as far as anyone on this site is concerned, the Indy 500, the fairgrounds, the little 500, then night before the 500, etc... BUT!?

No one on this website cares about pavements midgets any longer? What's going on!?

I think when Usac created a dirt and pavement series, the end was coming. After such a great race in 2012, it was sad to see this years event.

I used to care but I don't anymore. Pavement midgets are too expensive and to few. Nb4500 needs to go dirt to survive.

This race used to be an annual must see for me and I remember the 50+ cars which included many dirt ones. Then, NASCAR ruined the track and USAC does nothing to control costs and now you have low 20's car count. I now skip this annually. The other USAC divisions are also in trouble as far as car count goes. Even the sprint cars will be soon. I predict there will not be enough for four heats at terre haute on the 21st. I'm not sure if 3 heats and the feature are worth a 4 1/2 hour drive each way but I might. Sadly things aren't what they used to be but hopefully someday will get better.

You are incorrect. I started a thread titled '' any updates from lorp? '' I started this thread the night of the race. Unfortunately due to illness I was unable to attend. The thread had 10 responses and 1999 views. I'm sorry I do not know how to post the link to the thread.

Ive gone every year except for one or 2 for the last 20 years and because of the defections(BC, East etc) I decided to go to the MSCS race at Put instead which of course rained out 1/2 way thru the program. Then I got home and relaxed only to hear the midget race start about 11PM(I live about 5 mi from IRP) some nights you just cant win

OR...and sorry if this comes off as a smarta$$ remark, but start one yourself. You said you sat back and waited for one which never appeared, but then had the time to start a thread complaining that no one started one. Strange!
I, for one, love the midgets at IRP, they are scary fast there, but it is a very busy weekend (we were at the IMS memorabilia show till about 7 promoting the club), and look at the other choices everyone had to go racing, add the lateness of the start, and then the fact that the feature took about 10 minutes to run. MIdgets will once again be a plenty starting June 12 at Gas City for Indiana Midget week, check local listings, jmho, bob.:deadhorse:

Ok, first of all, I respect you Bob. you don't know me but I respect you. So I apologize if this sounds like a smartazz reply, but you should have read what I wrote! I wrote that I waited to see as a test, I waited to see if there was going to be a post or many posts as usual about "the night before the 500" and what this post was about was less of a complaint and more of a recognition of the death of enthusiasm for "the night before the 500" race particularly on this website. Then at the end of your post, you reinforced what I was stating....midgets are not only racing on dirt (for now) they are still racing on pavement and if we let it, it will die! The purpose of my posting is to ask why there were no posts for the pavement midget race that happened at IRP the night before the 500, and did not have anything to do with the car count at Gas City for the upcoming Indiana midget week. Thank you for your post though...

I still would like to know from other members on here: Why? Why no more interest in pavement midget racing? Especially a once prestigious race like "the night before the 500"? No enthusiasm? I'd like to know why? Do you care if it dies like the pavement sprints did? I sure do!

Re: Not one post about "the night before the 500"

I was there with some people but ended up leaving when it started raining. It didn't look like they would get it in and we wanted to get to our room to get ready for the 500. I just wish they would get back to having a full midget show. heats, semi, feature. Maybe only run one class of rear engine cars to get this over earlier. They run the heats early then wait 2 to 3 hours before the midget feature. One of my favorite places to watch midgets. On the edge fast midget racing.
