Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
Why is Cole Whitt at Gas City and not at Richmond. He is the current USAC sprint points leader. Shane Hmiel is in the 67k.

Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
You have to be over age 18 to run on a track greater than or = to 3/4 mile in length I believe. Correct me if I am wrong

Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
:doh:I dont think the age needs to be changed, maybe the car owners need to pick a experinced driver. To many young drivers that dont have the experance to race at these tracks, and are driving over their heads. Amazing what money will do for a young drivers seat time and quality of ride. This should be a hot topic with many replys.

Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
From the rule book:
"3.5Age - Before a person shall be eligible for a license in the United States Auto Club (USAC), and participation in a USACsanctioned race meeting, such person must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. A driver under the age of eighteen (18)years, but not less than sixteen (16) years of age, who has complied with Indiana Senate Enrolled Act No. 623, or likerecognized ACTS of other States enabling partial emancipation of a minor, will be eligible for consideration by USAC for an annual membership/license(s) to compete in USAC events. On all oval paved tracks larger than 7/10 (0.70) mile all drivers must be eighteen (18) years of age. The partial emancipationprocess of a minor will not apply for these events. A driver over the age of thirteen (13) years may participate in the USAC Kenyon Midget Series and/or a regional Ford FocusJunior Series. Thirteen (13) year old drivers are required to submit a racing resume with their drivers’ application. USAC may require a minor applicant to attend an approved competition driving school." Jerry |
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
but, cole Witt got track time at GAs City - those in Richmond did not...
So, he will be the prohibitive favorite at Gas City for SprintWeek! Question, will all the SprintWeek cars that are running for points - will they be at Lawrenceburg this coming Saturday - to get track time for SprintWeek? Damion Gardner got a win at burg last week - so, right now I think he is the favorite to win the 2 nights , unless the others show up next week to get some tt. |
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
Well Cole Whitt ran the fastest and most demanding track June 12, 2008
at Winchester Indiana and finished second after leading before his teammate passed him. I would think that Richmond is not much faster then Winchester and it is alot flatter. :kookoo |
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
Cole Whitt took a big hit in the standings- dropped to 3rd.
NEW NATIONAL SPRINT CAR STANDINGS: after richmond 1-Jones-555; 2-Coons-528; 3-Cole Whitt-523; 4-Hines-495; 5-Bacon-486; 6-Hagen-453; 7-Gardner-426; 8-Cottle-421; 9-Dave Darland-413; 10-Sweet-397. |

It's a stupid rule but I guess at the time it was passed it probably made sense. With the developmental programs in place today, a young person like Cole can hardly be called incapable of running the larger tracks. I think if you can handle Winchester, you should be allowed to run anywhere on the planet. |

does that include susky? |
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
I think the rule is based on tracks where the IRL runs. It looks to me to be based on tobbaco advertising laws. Just my guess.
|
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
so because there is tobacco being advertised at the bigger tracks, a driver such as whitt can go there to crew for his team but cant run?
or maybe the advertising is thought to be more dangerous than running a midget on a mile such as the case when nazareth was running their usac shows.... but...using some of these kids that show EXCEPTIONAL talent as examples of how a rule should be changed, in my opinion, is way off base. kids like whitt and boat are the exceptions, not the rule...and the rule is written to save the kids whose parents have more money and ego than sense. putting a 14 year old out at the chili bowl is WAY different then strapping him/her into a pavement sprinter on a mile track. too many parents have unrealistic goals for their kids and push way too hard for the kids to achieve them without being honest about the fact that the kid isnt as good as daddy wants him to be..... in NJ tonight, they are putting 2 15 year old slingshot graduates in cars that, imo, are dangerous by design, on a track that is tricky at best (it ate up a few ardc cars last time there)......any idea whats gonna happen if one of these kids gets busted up.....if i were the track owner, i would not allow this to be happening cause even if one of these kids gets a sprained finger from a wreck, the fit is gonna hit the shan.....welcome to NJ...can we sue you next? |
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
Hold on a second though. Brady Bacon was running Richmond last night, isn't he only 16?
|
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
How old is Jacob Wilson?
|
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?

Not sure on Wilson |
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?

Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
I agree with c47 about too many parents with high expectations and way too much money. They push the kids too hard. Then when they come up against rules that they don't like they sit around and complain. I also think that the age rule is a good thing. Think about it, what if it was someone you knew invovled in an accident with a driver under 18 and there were injuries. What would your first thought be?? Why isn't there a age rule right? This is one of those grey areas. There are arguments on both sides of this. :icon_smile_blackeye
About the kids running in NJ tonight, do the NJ State Troopers know how old they are?? I can't believe they would let this happen.. Racing there in the past, I remember how tough the Troopers are. Or have things changed? Also according to Bacon's bio he is 18. |
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
the age requirements eased up a little over the past couple seasons but they are still tough. they laid down some pretty interesting rules the last time we were there. stuff like if the unused excess was cut off your belts, you either had to replace them or not run. anything but foam mud covers would not be allowed at the show later in the season. all pushlock fuel fittings had to be hose clamped, if you used mud covers at the last show, you had to duct tape the zeus buttons.....and they came around and looked at everyones car.
during the feature, they had a red and my car was stopped right at the track entrance. my driver was screaming for tearoffs...i hauled ass back to the trailer and got a sleeve and shot back to the pit gate where i was informed that i, nor anyone else was allowed to give them to my driver....as he sat there no more than 8 feet from me....in the heat of the moment, i kinda snapped and went off on the state police inspector standing there...i told him that for all the hype about the supposed safety rules, you wont allow me to give these to my driver so he can see safely for the remainder of the race.....he said no....i told him that was the most hypocritical thing i have heard in quite a while...fired up the 4 wheeler and left.... luckily...when he showed up at my trailer after the feature...i ignored him till it started pouring rain and he left....but something tells me that i have not seen the end of him :angry-smiley-007: welcome to new jersey.... |
Re: Cole Whitt not at Richmond?
