Health of non-wing sprint car racing

Providing the rain stays away, non-wing sprints will be racing at 6 dirt tracks this Saturday.

4 tracks in Indiana, 1 track in Illinois and 1 in Ohio.

A variety of different payouts and locations... It will be interesting to see what the car counts looks like.

Re: Health of non-wing sprint car racing

With 40 cars at Fremont, 30 at Waynesfield, 27 at Lawrenceburg, as well as some who didn't run this past Saturday, there is no doubt that there are a good amount of cars. It will be interesting to see where everyone goes.

Sounds like things are in better shape in Indiana then wing country. Both the winged 410's and 358's are hurting for cars. The Grove didn't even have 50 cars between the 410's and 358's last weekend.

Re: Health of non-wing sprint car racing

It should be more like the health of the sprint car racing fans! Gas prices are so High most of us can't afford to go and drive an hour or more just to get rained out. Ticket money not wasted but gas money wasted for sure. I'm sure the car owner's are suffering as well. Whatever the case may be I don't like it! Tracks need to do a better job on calling rain outs before hand. They are doing better but there is room for improvement! Track owners need to post more often about they are a go for the night more often. For example: Posting we are a go 5 hours before racing starts isn't really that good. Because this is Indiana and just give it 5 minutes and the weather can change. If you are a Track Owner, Race Fan, RaceCar Driver or just work at a Track we are all suffering and it really stinks!! But there is 1 good thing in all this There is lots of great racing left to go in this season and we can be thankful in that!

Oh my god! Could you imagine the show the USAC sprinters would put on that places like Superior, Cedar Lake or Rice Lake??? They would be barn burners!!!

I would love to have just 1 track to go to to see non-wing racing.....I am soooo tired of watching follow me to the checkered flag racing, I could just take up golf. I see more passing on the turnpike going to the races than at the race track :) ...........Being a car owner of a wing team when your heart lies in non-wing racing is very difficult.

Re: Health of non-wing sprint car racing

Weather depending I think car counts are going to be stretched a little bit this weekend..but 20 is the magical number..thats a full field..if each track can get that then that would be a pretty sweet deal..i have been to races with 15 cars and it has been as exciting as big fields. Wherever you guys go enjoy yourselves..and support your local track!

I pit on a winged car and my heart is with non-winged. Not as bad as owning one, but I definetely feel your pain! Best weekend in Wisconsin last year was the USAC swing. Hands down!

Sprint car count wise, they might be better off going to Sunday. They have struggled to get more than 12 this year and last year it was only a few more. With Kokomo being quite a distance North being the only track that runs Sunday weekly, they might pick up some cars from the Southern part of the state who might want to run Sunday but don't want to travel that far North.

johnnythunderhead 5/7/13 9:56 PM

non wing racing might be spread thin on sats/ but what about fridays and sundays? we could sure use another night of non wing racing here in the tri-state (oh. ky. in.) say somewhere within an hour of cinci in whatever direction. and we could sure use a track with a weekly midget show! i know there are tracks there/ but no one wants to roll the dice/ oh well thank the good lawrd for lawrenceburg, even if we are destined to hold our noses to force down bad tasting beer from this day forward! the track is awesome and the racings incredible!!!!!

Hey Gene you could even come out to Kaly , just in SoCal we have Orange Show, Perris, Victorville & Ventura all running not to mention the NorCal/Az boys

You could even hang with a black hats team & become one of the Bad Boys of racing :5:

Hope you take this in the light hearten manner it is intended !

More power to you, I couldnt be involved in anything I didnt enjoy. I'm hoping the folks that have real sprintcar racing appreciate what they have. They have nonwing 600's racing at hamlin PA, Gene you could sell that winged crap and run four or five 600's. A couple in the rookie class and a few in the 600 class. You'd spend a ton less money and have two tons more fun.
:21: wings anyhow
p.s. im sure your cars aint crap, they turn crappy when you hang wings on them.
