Terra Haute?,

Considering making the long trek. Worth it? Opinions solicited.

Absolutely. With the O'Conners and Bob Sargent running the place, the track preparation will be absolutely first class. Since they took over, this has gone from my do not go list to my do not miss list. What I can't speak to is whether USAC will be able to attract a good field of dirt champ cars. I'm certainly willing to drive over 150 miles to find out, however.

Frank said it. Go for it. Not like you have to get up and go to work the next morning. :9:

You can always make a long weekend out of it...Gas City Fri., Putnamville Sat and then on to Terre Haute Sunday! Some of the best Silver Crown races I have ever seen have been at Terre Hau

Absolutely! The hot laps alone are worth the trip!

I'm in the same boat... Believe that champ cars at the Action Track are one of a kind, but also scared that car count and car performance will be dismal!?

I wonder if USAC has/will make a car count projection.

Well...just think of the the old saying..."A bad day at the races is still better than a good day at work" I've been to plenty of races with light car counts...but at least I was at a race. It is almost impossible for me to say no to a race at Terre Haute.

I don't think they will, Rich...if they know the car count will be light the worse thing to do would be to publicize it...then no one would go....it is what it is and if there are only 16 or 18 cars then just enjoy what there is. I think we all know there won't be a boatload of cars there.

Anyone have an updated informed opinion of expected car count for Sunday?

15 or 30 cars, either way the top 5 and the way they are dicing it up, pulling sliders and throttlin it up will determine whether it goes down as a classic or not. I think this year will prove to be a great improvement over last but be patient, Terre Haute may not show its full car count potential but I guarantee it will show its competitiveness.

With the fuel restrictions changed, i think it will make some of the car owners who sat at home last year come back out. And i know there are a few new teams this year, will look forward to the new team of Sachs/Throckmorton for the full season of the USAC Silver Crown cars. 1 promise, the earth will move at THAT on Sunday with the USAC Silver Crown cars on the track...and just a reminder of 2 things, early pit access if you buy general admission tickets, so take the kids out to see the big cars and meet the drivers (3 pm pit gates open, racing at 7); & if you're a HARF member...$5.00 discount at the ticket booth. Hope for a great crowd, with the rain we've had lately maybe new track records set, see you there, bob.

Is the discount good for grandstands and infield?

We keep talking about car counts, well, I've been attending USAC Silver Crown, dirt car, Champ car, or whatever you want to call them since 1965, and I remember quite well that there were less than twenty cars at most events, and this was when Foyt, Andretti, the Unsers, Rutherford, Branson, Larson and all the big names were running. We need to support what we have and quit complaining. The negativity drives away potential spectators.

There will be less than 20 this week and they will be racing for 25 miles. USAC at its finest!!

Thanks for the support, its nice to know that the love of bashing exceeds the excitement of the season and the success of the series. I know Ive spent 100's of hrs in the shop working on the cars just so the product can be ran down and support can diminish. Hell id rather run 50 green flag laps than to count the caution laps for a hundred. I just dont get it...... We as racers complain and use leverage to get what we want, then when we get it and excitement starts to build again, someone forgets to read the memo that the bashing is over and its time to go racing and have fun..... whatta ya say? lets give it a try?

I'm coming in for the 3 race weekend. What race am I most excited about you ask? The Champ cars at Terre Haute. I don't care if only a handful of cars show up or if there is 50 cars. I hope for some good clean racing from green to checkers. Come down and say hi if you are there.....I'll be the one with the smile from ear to ear.

SpfldMile 4/23/13 8:24 PM

Me too, usually turn 3 on the infield. Can't wait. I'll warm up with some midgets at mighty Macon on Saturday.

Believe me, a whole lot of us appreciate it. A few folks on here would rather complain than do anything else. Ignore them.

Car count doesn't matter at THAT. Plain and simple. The track doesn't disappoint, especially with Track Enterprises doing track prep. I would go, but I can't get out of working Sunday. Besides anyone with a sense of reality should have a huge amount of respect for the sheer skill it takes to race a crown car at speed. Well worth the trip.

Murry2112 4/24/13 6:47 AM

This will be my first time seeing the champ cars run. I've been to Terre Haute a number of times and even my (almost) 4 year old will tell you the racing is great. We are excited to see something new!

We get it. You are bitter. I will also bet you they have more cars Sunday than they brought to Salem when you worked for them. How many did you have that day? I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same. I find it funny the same things you say to bash USAC, are the same things people said about you. I will be there Sunday.

This is a good point. The 14-car MSCS race with Smoke graciously being number 14 was nonetheless a good race as far as I was concerned. It was sure worth the drive from Madison County IL.
