Correct me if I'm wrong, but the front cars (Stockon, KT, etc) took the checkered flag when the yellow came out the first time. What's the rule on this? Should the race not end if the leader takes the checkered flag?

Re: Burg updates
If the leader takes the checker before the yellow the race is over, all cars taking the checker are scored for 30 laps, once the yellow is out, the remaining cars are scored at the completion of lap 29 with yellow flag car(s) placed at the tail of lap 29.

THOMAS TAKES LAST-LAP WIN AT LAWRENCEBURG
Lawrenceburg, Indiana…….Kevin Thomas, Jr. of Cullman, Alabama waited until the last lap to steal Saturday night’s AMSOIL National Sprint Car Feature victory at Lawrenceburg Speedway. The 21-year-old who won his first National event last season started tenth and came on late to make a spirited charge on the high side to pull past Chase Stockon off turn-two on the final circuit and narrowly held him off to pick up the win. Thomas, who started this season with a new team, notched the very first victory for newly-assembled Mike Dutcher – Rotondo Weirich – Tri-Star Motorsports. Dutcher, who served as crew chief on last season’s championship-winning team, made it his third team in three years to visit a USAC Sprint Car winner’s circle. Coleman Gulick rocketed from outside the front row and ran the high-side around the fast three-eighths mile, pulling out to a sizeable advantage in the opening laps. Stockon was the first to reel him in, though, sliding in front of Gulick on lap 12 to take the point. Gulick countered, however, and took the spot back. Stockon came calling again on lap 21, grabbing the top spot and pulling away as a free-for-all went on for positions two through six. With the white flag waving, a spin in turn-four set up a showdown for the win. Thomas took the lead on the restart and seemed destined for victory, but another caution slowed the action. Stockon got a better restart and held Thomas off until after seeing the white flag, but the Rotondo Weirich – BlackJack Oil #17RW Maxim/Fisher prevailed off the final corner in near three-wide finish with Stockon and Brady Bacon. “That’s the best race I’ve ever been a part of, right there. I’m glad everybody came out tonight, and we put on a great race for them. To get a win here, where I’ve always had bad luck, it really feels good. I was pissed to see that last yellow. I finally got to the lead, and the caution comes out. We got lucky for it to fall that way at the end and give us a chance at the win. It’s great to get a win for this new deal and everybody who helps with this team,” Thomas said. Stockon nearly backed up his win at Lawrenceburg from last fall, which marked his first in the series. The Elizabethtown, Indiana driver took the series point lead on the strength of his runner-up finish, however, in the Superior Tank & Trailer – Crescent Electric Supply #32 DRC/Fisher. “We’ll definitely take a podium finish. I knew after that last caution he was gonna be tough to hold off. KT and his guys were just too fast for us at the end. We won last fall on a completely different track, but we were really good tonight, too. We just have to keep finishing races and knocking down good finishes. I never thought I’d be able to say I was the point for the USAC National Sprint Car Series, so it’s pretty cool to be up there,” Stockon said. Bacon came from the 11th starting spot and nearly had an opening to take the lead before the race’s final yellow flag flew. Instead, Bacon again tried to sneak underneath the top-two only to be denied when the duo racing for the lead dove across the bottom, relegating Bacon to the third spot in the Hoffman Auto Racing – Mean Green #69 Triple X/Stanton Mopar. “Without that last caution, we might have had second, and I really think we had a shot at the win. They blocked the bottom going into three on the last lap, so we didn’t have an opening to get the win. It took a while for our car to come in, but we were really rolling up through there once the bottom came in. This is definitely a good result for not getting a great qualifying lap in,” Bacon said. Polesitter Hunter Schuerenberg faded outside the top-five before rebounding to finish fourth in the MyLocalFordStore.com – Fatheadz Eyewear #35 Mach-1/Rider, while defending series champion Bryan Clauson came from row-six to finish fifth in the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing – Chevy Performance #20 Beast/Kistler. Re: Burg updates
that was a hell of a race. best race ever at the new burg!!! tons of passing from front to back every lap. you could throw half a blanket over the first three cars taking the checker.:6:

Re: Burg updates
One word since Instant Classics can only take place west of I-65
EPIC!!!!!!!!!! DD got caught up in a skirmish on lap one that him and a couple others lost about ten spots on the first lap. DD did have a flat on Lap sixth and was running 11th. He ran the whole race with it flat and didn't lose a spot. What can i say, WOW. Started out with Gulick Stockon, Hines, Cottle battling hard, Stockon didn't come to finish second. HIm and Gulick swapped sliders several times laps 12-25 when Stockon took control. Bacon who started about 11th I think catfished and on lap 27 clearly had the line for the lead but almost took out a marker tire. KT. Jr. Made the top side work which Dutcher seems to unrealistically been able to groove tires for Dust as Evident by tonight and BC's Sprint Week run last year.. Two restarts with two laps to go but either time a blanket could have been thrown. At the Checker it was KT. JR fist pumping to the crowd as he crossed the finish line with Stockon half a car length behind and Bacon half a car length behind him. WOW, GREAT SHOW, Thanks to all the teams to that came out. Logan Hupp put on a Burg Clinic on what some call a huggy pole track in the Consi, BUT IT WASN't. He was going in high and driving down the banks. Thanks to Rudy for the rework, That track was five lanes wide the whole feature and they used every one of em. WOW. Good night :8::8::8: |

Flagman was clearly throwing yellow and not checker as Leader crossed the line., Everyone was saying what a race, I was saying yellow.

Re: Burg updates
This was an extraordinary night of racing. Kevin Thomas Jr always had the talent. Now he has honed his skills to the point where he can be a threat to win on any given night. And if he just slipped just a tiny bit last night he would have wound up third.
We get a sentimental favorite in Chase Stocken finishing a very close second and Brady Bacon in the local Hoffman car a nearly as close third. As stated above^^^ Dave Darland should get an award for gutting out a race essentially on three wheels. Yeah it was the left front and that wheel isn't used as much but try it sometime. That's why he is the peoples champion. Track prep was as good as it gets. Many Kudos to Dave and the crew. The only bads on the whole night was Chris Windom bending his car up pretty good on a collision with Ted Hines on a racing deal and one of our locals Justin Owen looking smooth in qualifying only to have something break on the steering and messing up the rear end in the process. I sent a message to one of our local TV stations this morning on Facebook to give a shout out to the race last night at the 'burg and that this is the best auto racing on the planet, better than NASCAR, better than any. And I don't just mean this particular show. I mean everywhere in Indiana, in Illinois and Ohio. We have an industry here that is providing us with some great entertainment. We are very lucky. |
What an unforgettable first time at Lawrenceburg Speedway!

Re: Burg updates
I don't get to Lawrenceburg as much as others, but I can say of the dozen or so times I Have been there since the track was changed, this was the best show I have seen.Feature was good from start to finish, and the last 10 laps really good. It was also a very impressive group of cars and drivers. Good show. Even with a lengthy track rework, I was on my way home at 10:45. A very well ran show.
