Anyone recognize this tail tank/1982 Nance chassis
This tail tank came with this 1982 Nance chassis that was on e-bay some time ago. Car was picked up from southern Indiana area. Looks like the rear kick-ups of the frame were replaced at one time. Could have come from Indiana, illinois or Missouri.Does anyone recognize it? I don't think many Nance cars of this vintage had added on sidebars on the cage.

Re: Anyone recognize this tail tank?
Not to be difficult, but are you sure that is an '82 Nance? Is there a number welded in the cross member at the top of the motor plate?

Re: Anyone recognize this tail tank?
Positive Tom, there is a number welded on the top bar above the motor plate. Gives month, number built and year made.

Reminds me of Greg Stabb's car

Re: Anyone recognize this tail tank?
The gentleman who got it off of Ebay got the tank (which I don't have) with the car but its not a given that it was used on this particular car. I would guess it was as the chassis has tabs for a tank versus the straps Nance used to secure the tanks on. I figured if I could identify at least the tank, i may be able to follow some sort of trail.

Re: Anyone recognize this tail tank?
Think it looks like one of Duke Cook's old cars. The bars on the cage for arms make me think so. Duke had them, and not many other Nance cars did. Just a guess.

Re: Anyone recognize this tail tank?
I had thought about Duke also,so I posted a pic on a facebook page he frequents. Another name that has come up is Mike Thurman from Missouri.

Re: Anyone recognize this tail tank?
Well, another vote was for Mike Thurman as far as the tank goes. Would anyone be able to put me in touch with him? thanks

Re: Anyone recognize this tail tank?
That looks like Mike's tank. Mike was from Farmington Mo. I don't know if he still lives there or not?

Re: Anyone recognize this tail tank?
Well, I did get in touch with Mike Thurman who lives in Missouri and it definately was his tank. It was on his 1988 Oz car.So now I need to find out how it came together with this 1982 Nance frame. This frame has side bars added on the cage. Duke Cook ran a Nance like this but it was prior to 1982.Now i'm thinking this frame could be from Missouri or Illinois in addition to Indiana even though it was picked up in southern indiana. So I'm hoping someone from the different states may see this post and recognize the frame. I appreciate everyones responses and input. Sometime you never do establish the origin of a car but I can't quit yet...

AJ Watson always reminded me, that sometimes ya gotta go with what ya got, sometimes there is no "history", these things changed hands more often than some of the guys changed underwear, your lucky you got a piece of it, fact or fiction. Looks like a good project. Bob
