It's going to be a interesting year!!! The cost is just way out of hand on the big cars vrs the payout!!!!! And the number of guys who have retired over the last few years are way more than new owners getting into silver crown

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
:deadhorse: There is the misconception among the silver crown hard core fans that there is consipracy to keep the silver crown cars down. If the demand for these races were higher more fans would attend the races. If the fans attended the races, more promoters would book the shows. If more promoters had shows, more owners would get involved.
Once again, I ask the question about which show you would rather attend: USAC sprints, WOO Sprints, USAC midgets, USTMS modifieds, Lucas Oil late models, USAC Silver Crown, or a local show. For the vast majority of people a silver crown race is going to be on the very bottom of this list. It simply a case of supply and demand, and the demand for silver crown races is low. |
Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
Out of the 18 or 19 team racing this season how many are going to be racing both dirt and pavement? Would getting rid of the pavement and just racing dirt be better?
|
Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
Costs are way out of hand in all forms of racing, except maybe for Sport Compacts.

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
Pavement sprints are shelved, while at the same time, pavement Silver Crown is 'growing'. And, by growing, I mean more pavement races at more race tracks, even though we've been there before. Color me 'bewildered'.

Just a few years ago, there were 8,000 in the stands at DuQuoin. There are some interested fans out there

Like everything else, it's about the marketing. USAC just doesn't have a good (enough) PR team.

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
I believe that getting rid of the pavement might help, but only due to cost. I think one of the best ideas is to get a famous past driver (Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse, Ryan Newman, etc.) to drive a race or two or even just be there to sign autographs and tha will attract fans back. There is at least 100 cars laying around that could be run up to standards, for example the Foxco #56 is something like 15 years old and still runs with the best of them. Believe it or not there is a lot of cars and motors and they can bought reasonable enough that guys can go racing on dirt very reasonable. Also, there is a ton of tracks that could be great places to run-Paducah, Syracuse, Sacramento, Las Vegas, the dirt track at Charlotte, etc. I think there is a positive way to look at the series if promoters, fans, car owners, and drivers would just give it a chance! - Greg Hardy of Hardy Boys Motorsports #114

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
Dear USAC PR DEPT. How about having a coupon in local newspapers 2 for 1 offer for silver crown , sprint, and midget races just maybe it would help put some fans in the stands. Everytime there is a race the general public has NO IDEA, a event is even taking place. The silver crown series needs this more than the other series. The regulars who attend these races maybe able to introduce these races to someone who otherwise wouldn't attend. There is a old saying " If its not broken, don't fix it". Guess what " It is broken " do something different.

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
all us silver crown fans need to bring someone with us that hasn't been to one also and do our part, talk the talk , walk the walk.

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
Hey Ossucks we get it. You don't like them. The problem is even when the car counts were good is the crowds were not. Yes some places were, but as a whole these are high risk shows for promoters. I can remember when the Hoosier Hundred was last run in the fall and the crowds were terrible, so they went to 1 race in May. I love the dirt cars, but I am old. A lot of people do not find it as exciting as shorter race on a bullring, and all the gimmicks in the world are not going to change that. If bringing in NASCAR drivers would have helped the PRA would have a decent crowds. Their crowds and car counts were terrible. I have 4 of these races penciled in on my calender and I hope things go great. I love these races, but I am not a young man, and I think young people see many things they enjoy more.

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
When I was at Todd Kanes in late January Todd and his dad Marty told me they were planning on running the dirt shows with their car.
|
Brent, i agree with you, but there are young people that still enjoy them. I'm 23 and have been going with my dad to see them since i was a child. They may not be the most exciting cars and sometimes aren't the most action packed, but never in my life have i been so blown away as to see Jack Hewitt coming down the backstretch of Duquoin in turn 3 and jam it in full bore. That was pure beauty.

USAC needs to take a long, hard look at this series if they want it to survive. Maybe they should consider going to ASCS 360 engine rules? Or getting tracks like Williams Grove, Selinsgrove, Iowa State Fairgrounds etc. involved, even if they have to take a hit on the sanction fee. The owners took a huge hit for going to that bs gold crown business and it's time for USAC to make it right.

What is the average fan at Williams Grove willing to pay to see? WOO show, PA Posse show or Silver crown show? Once again, the silver crown show is going to finish last in that contest for the average dirt track fan. |
If that's the attitude then just shelf them and reminisce about the good ol' days. A lot of PA fans want nothing but a winged 410 race with Rahmer, Dewease, and Hodnett. Some even decline to attend the WoO races. I only got to see the Silver Crown cars once at the 2006 Sumar disaster. Loved the cars but man that "race" was terrible.

[QUOTE=Jonr;323026]The promoters book what consistently makes them the most money.QUOTE]
Most track operators will only book shows that are EASY to make money on. Damn few even know what PROMOTION is. steiny :32: |
Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
I would say Bob Sargent is definetly a promoter.

Does anyone know when the last new silver crown dirt car was built from the ground up??????
Posted via Mobile Device |
I would bet that the RW cars are new every year or two. I know that 6R built at least one new car every year or two.

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
Just got back from George Gamester's shop last Monday. They got a brand new GRP chassis he is building for his brother Russ to compete with this year on the dirt tracks!!!

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
I am disgusted and saddened by the state of the Silver Crown Series. I love them, truly love them, and to see the series the way it is makes me want to cry. I will be at 4 races this year and possibly a 5th if I can find money/time off. I am 23 years old and my first race was Duquoin for the Horn, my dream, what I chase everyday is to climb in a Silver Crown car at Duquoin or Springfield, or any of the miles and race 100 laps 100 miles... I feel like there are ways to fix it and make the series viable again, if we have the patience and listen to the owners and what would make them happy/ come back....

Very few places ive ever been rival the sights, sounds, smells of state fair racing. The excitement of hot laps and the sound of the engines singing a song are something very few short tracks if any can match. It is an event and something that will always stand out in my memories.

Advertise it so they know there is going to be a great race. I bet a lot of them are curious when they hear the engines roaring and would like to watch. If they didn't plan on it, though, they might not have the time or the extra money for such an impulse purchase. A little effort has to be made, you can't just open the gates anymore. People have too many options.

Re: Silver crown - who's driving what?
The thing I have always liked about the champ dirt cars is they remind me of the non-cage afternoon days at fairgrounds. (and nights too)
Nothing better than sitting in a big grandstand on a sunny day, dry slick, it takes some strategy, tire knowledge, fuel, you have to know what you are doing as a driver, get out of line or too fast in the wrong spot and you are toast. Nothing better than seeing someone come from way in the back. You almost can see everyone's strategy and there is time to race in 100 laps. To all those that love the silver crown cars....there is nothing to explain. It's hard for me to understand how all open wheel race fans don't love these cars. Nothing better! |
