Sprint Week Help Needed/ Lodging

As rookies for Sprint Week, I need some help. Is there a host hotel for any of the races? With gas prices the way they are, we have decided the RV will stay home. Our plan so far is to find a place to stay the day of the race. But if anyone has any hotels that are clean & air conditioned, with a reasonable price, I'd be interested. A lot of these tracks in the middle of the state are new to us, so we have no idea what's availabe up there. Thanks in advance.

We're staying at our usual places. Quality Inn in Lawrenceburg, then the Brickyard Crossing Inn in Indy. Although the latter makes the commute to Gas City a pain in the nose, it allows us to visit the museum and have lunch with some friends.

Obie,

We will be doing the Holiday Inn Express tour for all of the races except Kamp. Hope to see you at some of the races. Are you bringing the grandkids?

Might try Riverside Inn @ the Burg 812.537.4441 Next to track

Super 8 @ Gas City 765.998.6800 Mention I-69 Speedway and they will give you a break on the room.

I recommend both places. I stay at both often. The rates are good and the rooms are clean with lots of extras.

The Riverside Inn is kind of behind the times(they still have metal keys), but their breakfast is very ample.

The Super 8 at Gas City is a very nice place. In fact it is the best Super 8 I have stayed at. Also if you belong to AAA, NRA or a senior you get a better discount than the GasCity discount.

Is there a good place to rv camp at gas city?? I am planning on hitting the 2 day thing there and then to Kokomo..
I remember last year the race at Kamp motor speedway had a great grassy place to camp with a few big spots ..

There is a field next to the track at Gas City that is used by RV's and campers. No hookups, but when I was there a few years ago, it was free....and the track provided a golf cart to shuttle folks from the camper lot to the track, about a 1/4 mile walk.....

Those of you who are coming and staying for the first week may want to consider this. Stay in Gas City (Super 8, Best Western, Motel 6, or Holiday Inn Express from Friday night through Sunday night. It is an easy 70 or so mile round trip to Kokomo from there and you won't have to pack up and move Sunday morning. Plenty of good places to eat in Gas City as well. Cracker Barrell, Burger King, East of Chicago Pizza, Taste of Texas, and KFC are all at or near the I-69 exit in Gas City. A couple miles west is B&B restaraunt (great food, prices, and the best coffee in Grant County). Also Trejos Gyros is a little further west on 22 in town. And to Dick Monahan, I will be working at the museum every day during sprint week - make sure you stop and say hi!

Is there any good places to pitch a tent at the burg? Figured that would be the cheapest way to be able to get to go to all the races.

There is camping at Gas City at no cost. As someone said, we do not have any hook-ups, but the rest rooms are open and there is running water. There is a campground, Mar-Brook, just a couple of miles east of the track.

Re: Sprint Week Help Needed/ Lodging

Kokomo also allows camping at the track, no hook ups though. Gas city is 20 25 miles from Kokomo, pretty easy drive. Kamp is another 1 hour and 15 minutes west from Kokomo. West Lafayette is probably your best bet for Kamp, which is out in the middle of nowhere. As BrentTfunk says when your at Kamp you have to go towards town just to hunt. Hilarious.Racy track though. Hope this helps.

Re: Sprint Week Help Needed/ Lodging

Kamp has plenty of Camping no hook-ups but better get there early for a good creek side spot. Last year ther was 50-60 campers there by 11:00 am the morning of the race. Gas and Groceries are available in Boswell is 2 mile west of the track or Oxford is 7 miles to the east.

This will be my inaugural trip to Speed Week so I'm looking for some advice also. I plan on arriving at Lawrenceburg on Wednesday around noon. Will I have any problems finding a place to park a 38' motorhome. Is the seating general admission (according to the web site it is all general admission). How far of a walk from the camping area to the seats. I'll have my Dad with me and he isn't able to walk very well.

At Lawrenceburg I figure I can get some advice on Gas City and Kokomo.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I've been to the track twice now and the RV hookups are the same as last year. It is inside the fairgrounds and these extend all the way to the ticket booth. You may want to contact the speedway to see if they reserve any RV spots or you can PM Dave Rudisell here on the board. All seating is general admission and they have just added 2000 more seats in turn two. Also, the RV area is all flat to the speedway. You should not have any problems with a 38' RV. All construction was inside the speedway and to the side of the speedway. Not in the fairgrounds or RV area (camping area). Hope this helps.

That's what Bloomington and Haubstadt are charging, so I assume that will be the price at all venues.
