*Winning a pole at Daytona, is greater then any of my racing accomplishments.

However it's no indication of driver skill and talent. I also would have to say that if it is fixed you have to give credit for the France family for accomplishing what the Hulman-George family has missed out on.

OMG - will be so tired of hearing about her! Choked to death now with the newspaper; nothing but Danica in the newspaper headlines - who cares? Tony Stewart managed to get a little bit of a headline in the Orlando paper today. Will be glad when they move on from Daytona Beach! The Frances have created nothing but a dog and pony SHOW and just waiting for the right time to make the new TAJ MAHAL on the north side of speedway into a little "Las Vegas." Here comes the gambling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:3:

I like the racing at Daytona but watching them qualify is really boring. In recent years I can't even remeber a car breaking loose.

speedracer40 2/17/13 6:34 PM

Before jimmy Johnson qualified he said "a monkey can qualify here, so I'm gonna be another monkey, just hold it to te floor and hope the wind plays in your favor"

If you think the fix wasn't in, watch what happens when she races. They will have a difficult time fixin' that.

The TV coverage showed an interesting comparison of her lap superimposed over her TSR teammate's; she was slower through the corners but drove right by on the straightaway. NASCAR has never allowed a favored driver a few extra HP to influence the outcome have they? Ha.

reminds me of the heart wrenching scene (sniff, sniff) of Dale Jr passing 7 cars on the last lap, or two, to win the first race run at Daytona after big Dale's death....yeah right.... NAPCAR is the WWE of auto raing

I remember when My niece used to go and win against the boys in go karts and we used to hear the jealousy come out of the dad's. Sounds the same on here about Danica. Yeah she might not do as well in the race itself but, I will give her credit anyway. Congrats Danica on your pole today. No other women heck for that matter a lot of other experienced racers have not accomplished what you did today.

Isn't it great that 4 of the top 5 qualifers were open wheel drivers before they moved to the stock cars and the money that they can earn there. Where did this Bayne guy come from? It may not be a big deal to some of you angry white men out there but I know how exicted I got when my granddaughter sat on the pole with her go kart.

It's quotes like these that make me pray every day that my daughter never wants to sit in a race car. It truly is a man's sport and if a woman tries to enter they are ridiculed in ways that a man would never have to endure (looks, weight, relationship status). No one on here knows anything about her personal life (which the exception of a few). Sure you don't like her because she gets too much media attention (clearly her fault) or because she came across bi@&y in an interview a couple of times (something no man has ever done). But people like you are why she is a sponsor's dream. Everytime she does anything, good, or bad, there's a thread on here with hundreds of views. You can say what you will about her, but today she showed thousands of young girls that if you want to do something, even if its tough, get out there and do it and that, to me, is not a bad thing.

Anybody remember 1996 and Loy Allen? The first rookie to sit on the pole at Daytona with Hooters sponsorship. Lasted a couple of years and didn't make much of a splash after that. Not saying this will happen to Danica but, restricter plate qualifying is about the people who mouint the bodies, the engine builders and engineers, not so much the drivers. The next few races will show her talent level to this point. I hope she does well, but the kudos go to the team for getting her a slick, fast racecar.

Is Danica a role model I want my little girl to look up to? Sarah Fisher, Lynn St James are great role models for young ladies to want to be. Not a lady that sells *** (looks-acts like a hooker in the go daddy ads)

ESPN "THE COACH" just busted her and explained to the worldwide audiece why we diehard race fans have a problem with her. Alot of hype , but really nothing to show for all the attention. He said if it was anybody else besides a woman with her average finish , we would not see her because she would not be a car with an average finish of 28th. I would like her to do well to show that she derves the media circus. Kyle Larson is getting the media circus as well , but the young gun has backed it up.:9:

Yep and you are right a lot of hype and is that really a reason not to like her. So it's her fault the media wants to hype her up. I like when people say she has no talent but, yet she goes out there and outrun 42 other drivers to get the pole position. Yes it has to do a lot with the car but, you also have to go out there and be pretty smooth not to scub speed and she did that better then I would say at least 25 other drivers because the others probably did not have a good as a car as she had.Yes I will say she probably will not race as good as she qualified but, heck there are Formula 1 drivers that could not hang in nascar. She could probably outrun 80 to 90 percent of the guys on this board.

I like Danica & believe she has talent. Why doesn't she come out and say something like "all this attention should not be placed on me ,it should be placed on Brad K. or some of the more accomplished drivers in Nascar" Why do you put this board down by saying she could out run 80/90% here. Some the greatest open wheel drivers could be on here behind these screen names just wishing they had the oppertunity that has been given to her. :6:

So because she gets photographed in bathing suits because her sponsors tell her she has to, she doesn't get to be a role model? We have all seen first hand how hard sponsors are to come by. If Go Daddy told any of us to jump for money, we'd all be asking "how high"? I've seen pictures of Carl Edwards half naked in magazines plenty of times. Do you also tell your little girl not to look up to an extremely lengthy list of female tennis, golf, and soccer players, along with skiiers and runners who have been photographed in bathing suits? If I had a body like her I'd walk around in a bikini everyday.... Just saying. Male athletes are photographed shirtless daily, and little boys aren't instructed to not look up to them because of it. Girls wear a 2 piece and get to be called "hookers".

I have a niece that races also. Have not heard anyone say something off the wall when she wins and she has won quite a few times. It just seems funny that these kids seem more mature than most of us who post on these forums. I have seen when the parents are going at each others throats for whatever reason, bad call or whatever. The kids racing are already playing with each other waiting for the next race.

Amy,

Unfortunately, the vast majority of professional athletes and entertainers provide very little that I would want my grandkids to look up to as true role models. We have young men and women laying their lifes on the line everyday in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, police, firemen, EMT's, teachers, etc... that deserve so much more than they receive. These to me, are the true heros and role models of our time. They don't have to be half naked for me to look up to them for what they do for all of us.

Well said Mike, I agree with you 100% as I think of the role models I had growing up compare to the ones now days that my grandkids have. It is a shame but that is the way life is now.

Sure she does. Keep your hundred bucks in your pocket, she won't miss it. It is apparent there are plenty of people that will go watch her, you will not be missed. I would venture to say if you and every friend you have or will ever have do not attend a race she is in, there will still be a huge crowd there to watch her and everyone else.

addictedtodirt 2/18/13 8:09 PM

Qualifying well does not make you a champion, or even a winner. This qualifying effort is but a step towards something bigger/greater.

Your right I apologize to any driver that might be on this board because my comment was not meant for any of you guys or gals because I'm sure you would jump at the chance to do what Danica just did give the opportunity.

How many of us fans were there, and heard her say it wasnt her fault when they were having a hard time putting the car in the field for the 500? That team works their butt off for u and you bash them at one of the largest venues possible?!?!? That is the day I lost respect for her, as I would have for any other driver (male or female)!!

As long as theres beer there will be nascar.
I'm one of the few that believes everything blows but nonwing sprinters.
That being said she would wupp you and me around daytona.
I dont really care but I'll watch some, probley to see how she races.
So shes doing her PR job by pulling me in to watch something incredibly boring.
