AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
Today while watching the 24 hours of Daytona, they were interviewing AJ. They brought up Tony , and AJ said Tony had talked about whay he'd won. AJ replied,"Your not on the Borg Warner''. Can't argue with that.

Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
I thought it was hillarious! Tony brags to me all the time about his Nascar Championship Rings. My reply. "I don't see your face on the Borg Warner son"
|
I think its time tony goes after that win as hard as he chases nascar championships.

Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
They literally dont make them like foyt anymore. Racers today HAVE to spend as much time polishing their image as being racecar drivers. Foyt can do it all, todays racers tend to be more specific orientated. When drivers do switch from one series to another usually they havent mastered one form of racing before muddling it up by putting effort in some other form, maybe just for publicity. Say like maybe if Danica goes and runs Indy while she should be concentrating on here new trade.

Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
They only made one like AJ Foyt in his generation, too. Drivers that can seamlessly move from one type of race car, racing surface, etc., go fast and win, are truly rare birds. Tony Stewart is definitely one of those birds. Looks like Kyle Larson could be one, too. Only time will tell.

Foyt and Mario, the only 2 from that era. Maybe Ruby too. Ol ' Rube drove and won in everything. From dirt tracks to Sebring.

Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
As far as I'm concerned, I'm pretty sure Tony could win it and get on the Borg Warner. I'm not sure if he could SURVIVE all the SQUIRRELS.

Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
Danica is busy robbbing the crdle!!!!
If Tony had raced in A.J.s era, he would never have a chance at getting on that Cup. He might rate a ride in the Stoye Engineering lead-sled at the Speedway. Just telling it like it is and was!!! |
Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
Tony made a wise move. Had he stayed in the IRL he would be racing USAC and at Bloomington on Fridays. With all due respect to Supertex, had he been in his early 20s and in Smokes spot in the late 1990s AJ would have headed South and would have never looked back, and he knows it.
Both are great champions, AJ when he could race anything and win and Tony racing in the age of specialization. |

Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
Think back over the years of the numbers of drivers that "were sure to win" at Indianapolis, but who's face is not on the Borg Warner -- and you can spread that over the 100 years of the race. NOTHING is guaranteed. I remember in the 1970s when it was just a matter time when Pancho Carter would get his win. It never happened. Add Gary Bettenhausen, Lloyd Ruby and a host of others.
But, if you don't enter, you can't win. |
Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
Tony WOULD be on the Borg/Warner trophy if he didn't go south. But, He made a good move financially. He would have never have made the money he did down south if he would have stayed in the IRL. Even if he did win the 500!
He probably would have won it more than once too! |

Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
Can't agree on the Stoye comment. Tony is as close to those guys from Foyt's era we'll see in this generation.Anyone who can win from Rushville to Daytona and all points in between is as old school as they come.
As for the comment about running Indycars and still running Bloomington on the weekend. How's that different then what he does now. I've seen him run MSCS at Terre Haute, indoors at Ft.Wayne, NRA at Eldora. That wouldn't change. The only real difference between going and staying is the biggest one , M-O-N-E-Y. |
Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
I talked to Tony at Volusia County Speedway one night the first year he was down there, I asked him why he would leave INDY to go to Nascar, I flat asked him if it was the money, he looked me IN THE EYES and said no I know that pretty soon no matter what I do I'm not gonna be able to run midgets and sprint cars anymore, If I stay in Indy cars I can run what 10 or 12 times a year? Down here I can race every weekend.

Sorry charles, but i don't know you and have never talked about my championship rings to anyone. Don't just make up stuff to make yourself look cool. I've ALWAYS said A.J. IS the greatest of all time.

ps.....could any of the named "greats" from the past accomplish what racers like tony, kinser, swindell....even add larson to that list....and others have accomplished in this day and age? or vice versa? there are a few from each era that stand out....are they any better? no one knows. give them ALL respect cause they ALL earned it. |
Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
Whoops nothing. Charles was just repeating what some guy named AJ Foyt said about Tony. Laughed my butt off when AJ said it. Another shot from a cattle prod to get Tony to run the only race that matters to Hoosiers, the Indy 500.

Re: AJ Foyt spanks Tony Stewart
Just what I Said. LMAO,Charles stated what AJ said in his interview.
