Chilli Bowl Beefs

What beef did anyone have at the chilli bowl? I will come out say it first and that is "The Chilli Bowl has a Swindell problem". People are flat out tired of seeing the same sob's win. I am not crying over spilled milk because I respect Sammy and Kevin for what they have accomplished and their driving ability. However , I think this is starting to be a turnoff for many fans. Many people are going to stop shelling out the money knowing they are running for third. What is it about those 2 cars that are "so special". I have to much respect for the talented drivers , crews and owners to think that Sammy and Kevin have more knowledge or skill than people who do nothing but work full time just on midget racing where as Sammy and Kevin do not. My second beef was Jason Myers taking out Brad Kuhn for 12th place on the last lap. :7: what did that give you Jason , an extra $20 :11; I lost alot of respect for Jason for that move and to do it in a well respected first class midget owner's car.

People got tired of the King Winning all those races and championships for all those years too, but when you got your stuff together right and you are up on the wheel, it makes for a combination that is tough for anyone to beat.

It's the same story, just years apart, they used to hate to see Rich Vogler show up...they used to hate to see the Lewis #9, #19, & #91's show up...etc. etc.
A dominating car and driver will remain at the top until they are knocked off, so now all you have to do is beat them, simple huh? bob.:deadhorse:

All five nights were won from the front row. Sammy and Kevin have invisible wings on their midgets.:14:

Don't think so , I think there are at least 10 drivers that do the same thing in those 2 cars.

Re: Chilli Bowl Beefs

There is sooooooo much talent and money under that roof for them to make it look so easy year after year. Larson has won pretty much everything and he had to drive over the edge just to get ahead for a few laps. This trend is never going to stop unless they are taken out in someone elses mess (which just isn't the way I like to see racing). I respect the heck out of both of them, and Sammy is one of the best around for set up. But the way they make it look so easy just seems off....

I would argue: that the best years of the WOO were when Stevie and Sammy would trade good slide jobs race after race for about a 15 yr period.:):8:

Im not going to even try to take away their accomplishemt.

I do have a couple questions though.

Do either of these two cars run any other race? The Bondio's as well? Are they legal in Usac/Powri or even ASCS?

Do you have to build a car specific for the chili bowl to have a chance? Sure a couple ran with em for awhile but overall they just seem domineering.

Sammy and Kevin on the front row? Seriously, it's time to change the lineup structure for the Chili Bowl. The worst racing surface, and worst race, that I've seen since I went there in 89'. They needed more track prep between more of the races.

I thinks its crazy how those 2 cars can hook up anywhere on the track.. nobody can even come close.. Larson was up front driving his ass off but they mean him down in no time..

The Swindell domination is preparation and skill, with maybe a speed secret or two thrown in the mix.

My beef with this years CB was track preparation. I've attended since the early 90's as a fan first and car owner more recently and never have I seen the track so poorly prepared. Tuesday night was the only decent racing surface when the A main rolled around. As the week progressed it got worse, up to the horrid tire eating mess for Saturday's A main.
I don't recall any serious track prep during the alphabets on Saturday which made some ugly races and ruined chances for advancement.

Re: Chilli Bowl Beefs

The track sucked after about 20 laps wish they would have took more time on track prep and not handing out awards, they have all kinds of time after the morning session to hand out those awards. They need to invert the top 12 (top 3 each night tues-fri) Sammy was just logging laps, he wasnt even trying to win, he was holding up the bottom after cautions for Kevin to pull away. I will say the place was ELECTRIC for the 1st 18 or so laps when Larson was trading sliders with the Swindells, the bleachers were shaking the crowd was going NUTS!!!

Re: Chilli Bowl Beefs

hey since the chilibowl only has body panel rules..why not set a weight rule for the midgets....i heard that swindells cars are 200lbs lighter than others

Rhody 1/14/13 2:15 PM

There is no magic in the Swindells cars, just light weight and a good setup. The weight advantage works out to about .1 sec for every 10 lbs. ( within reason, 200# won't make you 2 seconds quicker). But if your car is 50# heavier, that's a half second a lap. No way any driver or setup can make up that difference. I know that there are other flyweight cars there, but the drivers of those cars don't have the confidence that comes with Swindell domination so they probably try too hard.

In all my years off attending racing I've never let who was winning deter me from going to a track. I think of all those nights going to Lincoln Spedway knowing that there was a 75% chance of seeing Steve Smith Sr. or later Fred Rahmer win.

Re: Chilli Bowl Beefs

david i'd say with over 300 wins at one track between the two that's domination. lol i would go watch those two anywhere...

I will give a big thumbs up though to smoke who very easily could have said the hell with it and pulled in after mess he was in turn one. I wish Kasey Kahne would respect the CB and race his feature on Sat. I know he was caught up in the wreck at Daytona , but this is not the first time he skipped out after not doing good on his prelim night.

Absolutely...those laps between Larson and the Swindell's were flat out amazing.

I'd say the reason the Swindell cars win , is weight and centrifical force with the short fuel tanks. :)

If Larson doesn't spin he very easily runs 3rd again sweet was up front last year as was coons jr from the back but nobody complains about these guys. It's been the same thing since I was a little kid you love the swindells or love to hate them. It's RWYB for a reason, if usac took it over then everyone would be bi**hin about their rules

Go Sammy and Kevin!!!!!!! I couldn't resist. Does the "Fat Lady" start singing when the Swindell"s pull into the building early in the week? I've loved Sammy since he started pulling up from Memphis to Tri-State in his teens. Sure, he's pulled some stunts over the years that I didn't like but I've always appreciated his will to win and giving it everything he has night in and night out. I admire his ability to take a race car in pieces on the garage floor, put it together, set it up and then drive it as well as anyone. When he gets all the boos at the big races I just smile and say "kick their butt." There have been a lot of tough losses over the years but at 57 he is still as feared a competitor as there is on the track. This Chili Bowl dominance will pass one day just like Steve's dominance in the WoO. Enjoy and respect the excellence while it is here.

Its RWYB within reason.... Kiwi V8's were outlawed after they both made the Saturday A main on the first try.

All most everyone on here sounds like Don Moore. The only difference is Don had a legitimate complaint. Karmas a ***** isn't it.:5: Please don't let USAC get involved. It would be the end of a good thing.

Since I am only a fan and don't have to worry about keeping up with the Swindell's, I have absolutely "ZERO" beef's with the Chili Bowl. And I will probably have ZERO next year as well.....Life's short....ENJOY...!!!!:32:

Re: Chilli Bowl Beefs

The 15x car Boat won in Friday was the car Kevin won in last year? If that is so... "one off" cars won 4 out of 4 nights they ran.... who was the last to win in a "traditional midget" on Saturday night?

If the Chillli Bowl changes anything they are nuts... this year was my first.... and the attitude of those at the race seems to be that they are at the biggest event of the year... 286 cars... sold out... I would just keep raising the prices on everything and counting my money!!!!:14::22:

Re: Chilli Bowl Beefs

Lets give them some incentive to start at the back, or at least outside the top 10. Throw some money at them and see how they respond. We, collectively, have a year to put a handsome purse together. I'm already hemorrhging money for 8 days in January, I can surely invest another $20, $50, or $100 to watch them put on a real show, with the same probable results.

What are the odds of Sammy and Kevin starting from the front 2 rows next year? Who will complain after watching the Swindells win the Chili Bowl from the back? Are the promoters motivated to alter the format? Would it be worth the effort? I'm willing to sweeten the pot and find out.

No square tanks and a weight rule is all they need.
