Silver Crown schedule
Why is the race at the Ind. fairgrounds scheduled for Thurs. May 23 , instead of the traditional fri. the 24th?Seems like a lot of out of towners like me won't make it. :10:

The schedule is correct, they moved it on purpose to allow for fans to attend the race and speedway activities better I believe was the reasoning.

Re: Silver Crown schedule
the schedule isn't exactly right because the race at Belleville is a day off it is Aug 2 not Aug 1
|
Sorry, didn't look at that, was only referring to the Indy Fairgrounds race being moved to Thursday. I believe the schedule on the USAC website is correct as it has the Belleville race on the second

Re: Silver Crown schedule
Yeah, they also moved the Terre Haute Sprint race from Thursday to Wednesday in conflict with the MSRSMS at Anderson.

I tried to find out the answers to all these questions at IMIS, but the day I went it was just a big booth with no help. Plenty of couches though. I had to disturb the young kid manning the booth for a schedule. I asked about the Belleville date being wrong. He said that might be the practice/qualifying day but wasn't sure. How the hell can they hand out a printed schedule and have the dates wrong? I did hear the Indy race was moved back because of the big track, and in case of rain. Cause we all know the SC cars are good about rain out make ups.

Re: Silver Crown schedule
If the schedule is correct in regards to the lead up to Memorial Day Weekend it will effectively eliminate any chance of us making the Hulman Classic at Terre Haute.
It is what it is and the world can't stop because it doesn't fit our schedule but I'm really gonna' miss the sprinters at THAT. Of the three shows we usually attend on Memorial Day and the days leading up to it (the Hulman, the Hoosier 100 and the 500) the Hulman was usually the best racing. |
I sat with Bob Sargeant at IMIS while having lunch. I was told that due to all of the activities at the speedway, they felt they were losing a lot of fans. Also, there was a sponsor that may come on board but would not come on board if the race was on Fri because of the speedway. It also gives a rain date. The idea had been talked about in the past. I'm glad to see them take a chance on this as they are taking a risk changing the date. It's great to have a rain date and hopefully get more people in the stands. I know it hurts some people but there are so many more things going on at the speedway on Fri now.

Re: Silver Crown schedule
After last years debacle of a season, may hats off to Bob Sargeant for even scheduling Silver Crown races. It takes a lot of balls to do this, because his pocket is the one that goes empty if this doesn't work this season.
Also ,USAC needs to beat the bushes and kiss as much casual fan butt as they can. The diehard will always go, but the casual fan got kicked in the teeth last year. USAC has to do everything it can to win back the casual fans. It was their decisions that created the problems, they now need to make decisions that will try to solve them. Not everyone reads IOW , it's going to take a lot more then just posting here, or making announcements at IMIS. |
Re: Silver Crown schedule
I hope USAC can find a way to convince the Car Owners to come back after last year's disaster. Without decent car counts there won't be any reason for the casual fan to bother.
