Hut 100
What's everyone's thoughts of it being moved from Haubstadt to Pontoon Beach?

Re: Hut 100
Both are top notch facilities... There's no doubt that Kevin will make a great run at promoting and running this event well. Also, you have the Silver Crown cars at Gateway the following day.

Re: Hut 100
I naturally would have loved to seen it close to home, but I'll support the race with my attendance, and will attend Gateway for the Silver Crown cars the next day, that is, if it is a night race.

Re: Hut 100
Since you ask, quite frankly I think it sucks, the Hut Hundred should be at THAT or at least in Indiana, period.

Re: Hut 100
When Haubstadt no longer wanted it, it had to go somewhere, or disappear. I thank the Gundakers for stepping up. I wish it was still at Terre Haute, but I don't see teams wanting that. From purely a selfish stand, it only takes me about 15 minutes longer to get to Granite City than it does Haubstadt. The silver crown cars were very good the last time I saw them at Gateway.

Funkster , for you it's 15 minutes, not me. With 69 open it's a LOT longer to the Beach. No Hut Hundred, Granite City Hundred, or whatever you want to call it, for me.

The last Hut at Terre Haute was not even close to a full field of 33. For some reason everyone was fired up for Turkey Night at Perris on a 1/2 mile, but don't wanna run Terre Haute. Doesn't make sense.

Re: Hut 100
I wish it was still going to be at Haubstadt cuz close to home but each of the years its been at TSS there seems to have been something happen first year was pretty cool weather second year the USAC and Powi war (only 33 cars even showed up) and last year the threat of rain held crowds down While the race has been great I think its not been a money maker by any means

Re: Hut 100
A lot of these races look great on paper, but when a promoter starts paying the purse, and the other bills, it just does not add up.
Personally, I'd rather the race be at Terre Haute, but the lame excuse of teams not wanting to run on the half-mile comes up. These same teams then pull over to Eldora for the Four-Crown, and Perris draws good fields. If it comes to not having the Hut 100 or having it in the Illini state, have it there but it no longer has the history and tradition of the event. It would be kind of like moving the Indianapolis 500 to Chicagoland and expecting it to be the same. |

They could not draw a full field or a decent grandstand crowd at Terre Haute. I always loved that race 3 wide start on a half. I think the cost of midgets in the last 20 years probably makes guys reluctant. For those who are devastated by this race moving to Granite City, maybe you could call Haubstadt,Kokomo or Terre Haute and rent the place next year, and show them how profitable it is. I am still happy to see POWRI and USAC and track promoters working together. To me the good out weighs the bad.

Maybe Plymouth would try it in 2014!

Re: Hut 100
I hope this event is successful and that in the future, subsequent annual occurances of the event would have its name based upon a growing tradition of its own.
The "Hut Hundred" belongs in Terre Haute same as the Kentucky Derby belongs in Kentucky. But, then we have the "Chicagoland Speedway" located at Joliet, which Yahoo maps says is 46.33 miles from Chicago :14: |
Re: Hut 100
So why did the Hut leave Lincoln Park?
|
Re: Hut 100
If it aint at Terre Haute it aint the Hut Hundred, period end of story
|
Re: Hut 100
Yeah this is wrong. Even though I'm from Illinois this should be an Indiana event.
It could be held at Terre Haute with or without an adjoining Silver Crown event. I won't argue with any of you about it either. There is so little respect for the history and tradition any more. I'm not taking anything away from Tri-State or Tri-city facillities. There are both fine venues. That is all I'm saying. |
Running 100 laps at THAT is way to hard on a motor today and eliminates most teams outside of the top USAC teams... Hints why the car count was so low the last couple years it was there. Most POWRI guys will likely run the Hut 100 now that it's moved to Tri-City and that's going to dramatically increase the car count in itself. Plus I'm sure just about anyone on here will agree that after seeing previous Gold Crown Nationals its going to be one helluva 100 laps. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
