Some off the press Twin Cities news
Just got off the phone with Troy, and I have some news on our early scheduling.
3/2: Car Show and Open Practice 3/9: Open Practice **3/16: Non Winged Sprints** 3/23: Non Winged Sprints 3/30: Regular Show 4/6: Regular Show 4/7: Non Winged Sprints **NOTE ON 3/16 event, we are in preliminary talks with MSCS for this show. If it isnt an MSCS show, it will be a regular show for Non Winged Sprints either paying $1,200 to win, or $1,500 to win.** Possible Sunday shows early in the year, cutting those off during the Summer, and then picking them back up later on in the year. The track has been made flatter, taking out some of the banking to hopefully open up more lanes of racing The PA System on both the Grandstand side and Pits have been fixed and improved, and youll be able to hear on all sides of the stands. Ill have more news as it comes available |

North Vernon is a lot closer for me then Flora. Great to see someone doing good stuff down there. Also like the early season shows.:6:

Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
Flora is in Ill., plus it's early in the year when not much is going on. :6:

Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
Saw yesterday their new website is up and running with some rules, a partial schedule , and weekly divisions.
http://www.twincitiesracewaypark.net Weekly Divisions - UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Indiana Street Stocks / Super Stocks, (V-8) Pure Stocks, & Hornets. |
Web site looks nice.....much easier to read than the old one.
Hopefully the 1000cc will run there more consistently this season than they have the past few year. Would be great to see L-Burg, Brownstown and Twin Cities rotate the mini sprints from week to week. Is the fence being repaired? Hopefully someone has cut down the vines that were growing over the turn three lights. :) Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
I am glad to see that improvements are being made. It would be nice to have another good track for sprints/midgets. Please, lets not forget the midgets. I still think they could be more popular than they seem to be now with the right track/promotion. Thanks to the new promoters for all they are doing.

Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
The fence can only be repaired by DA...unfortunately.

Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
Three phone poles, cut in half. 75ft of twelve ft fence in turn one. I don't get it, spend several thou on the other stuff and not make it safer?
Not saying Im not happy what they've done, But why can't a few hundred go into keeping someone from possibly dying? |
The fence will keep my race team from competing there. It needs to be addressed and fixed, period.
I wish them the best of luck in there new venture. But until the fence is fixed, I refuse to put my driver, equipment and the spectators at risk. Race team, drivers, fans , crews etc need to speak up about safety at our local tracks. Not only at North Vernon but across the board I mean, what is it going to take to get peoples attention? No body wants to talk about it, so we sweep it under the rug. Then somebody gets hurt and people get outraged? We need to be taking preventive steps now, to keep everyone safe. Not passing around the helmet after the fact. Posted via Mobile Device |

Why North Vernon needs the fence fixed.

What happens when a 3000 pound bomber does this? What if it is off of 4 coming down the straight ? FIX THE FENCE. |
Robbie, HOW CAN THEY GET INSURANCE FOR A SPRINT CAR SHOW?

Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
For the last 6 years I have provided service (at the urging of Cary Agajanian) as an expert wittness for the various racing insurance companies.
Most of these cases are spectator and participant (drivers and crews) liability lawsuits. The challenge is that insurance companies won't or don't set firm minimum standards. Most times we go by a loosley held policy of "Standard Of The Industry" Since I am retiring from Eldora at the end of 2012 and moving to Avon, I plan on offering loss prevention consulting services at no charge to speedways that ask. I will post my contact info after we get moved in January. Larry Kemp |

Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
Why does it always go back to Dave Allison having to repair the fence, seems to me Joe Spiker sure changed a lot of fencing and other thing at lps, looks like to me if you are leasing the place your first priority would be to address the major problems before hauling in new dirt and pa systems, seems everyone always brings up the fence issue so that would have been my first priority, just sayin.
|
This came from the horses mouth it's self. He said me leasing this track is like you renting a house if you were the renter would you pay to put a new septic in a new floor in an sink a bunch of money into the house that's not yours and that you still have to pay lease on? He said its not my track i dont own it and may slready lose money,I said good point he told me it would be 6 digit figures don't remember exactly to put a new fence up and do it right. If he can buy the place next year he will fix the fence but can't sink a ton of money in it that he won't even get back

I think a better analogy or question is...... Why rent or buy a house with a leaky roof and broken foundation if you weren't planning on fixing it?
For the record. I am not trying to be an ass here. I love North Vernon, the track is a lot of fun to drive and I have had some great nights of racing there! I am just tired of the blatant lack of safety standards I see every year. I know it seems like I am picking on North Vernon but Mr. Allison and the new tenant has to do something, to not only protect the PARTICIPANTS and FANS but also to protect THEMSELVES. As always.. this is just my opinion. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
Atleast get ahold of a cable company like Ft. Wayne cable put some up and throw up a little fence yourself, hell anything to apease the people or its almost guaranteed he will have people not show up, just for that reason. Make an effort of some sort.
|
Robby no Matter what we think it's going to happen its like saying we shouldn't race terrehaute to fast not safe enough lots of people get Hurt there Williams grove, Salem, Eldora, lots of places that are fast an dangerous. It's what we do it can happen and no one wants it to but it can. I wish the fence was fixed to but of he don't have the money this year he don't have the money I will support him and hopefully next year when he buys it he will have it fixed

I know the risks. Racecar drivers assume that risk everytime they fire the motors. But I am sure your seat belts are tight, your helmet is tight, you have your flame resistance suit on etc etc... Your not going to start the A main mid pack with no helmet on. We both could go back n forth with analogy after analogy to support our feelings. The fact remains, the fence is unsafe for everyone. Best of luck in 2013 Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
Wouldn't be cheaper to put up a new fence than have a lawsuit on your hands when something happens?

Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
Salem Speedway still has no fence. Tony Stewart went over the wall in a sprint car. Brownstown Speedway, which has sprint week races the past couple years and the No Way Out 40 race in 2013, has a poor fence on the front strech where the fans sit. That fence would never stop a sprint car.
Brady Shorts flip at Twin Cities wasn't cause of the fence. It was because of the poor track conditions and track prep. The new track promoter has been down there a ton this off season impoving the track and the track facilities. He was down there today, as with a bunch of fellow racers fixing the bleachers. He already has gone far above what other promoters of Twin Cities have done in the past, and he hasn't even had a race there yet. If you don't feel it is safe, don't come and race at Twin Cities. There is enough of us racers out there that will race there is year because of the effort that Sumo is putting in. This is my first season in a Super Stock, and I have never been more excitied for a upcoming year as I am right now for 2013. I raced a Mini Stock the last 5 years at Twin Cities and didn't look forward to a lot of races because of the poor track conditions, and not because of the fence. Sorry for my rant, but I feel Sumo is doing a amazing job so far. Check out all that he has done so far on Twin Cities Facebook page. Sumo, keep up the good work!!!! |
Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
Bloomington, Terre Haute, Brownstown, Putnamville, Paragon, are some of the tracks without fences in the corners Trouble with Twin Cities is that the fence posts that are there become possible skewers when you go through the fence.
Ask the people on here if they'd prefer no fences in the corners. You'd have to change parking outside the corners I know, but it would lesson the chances of someone becoming a shish kebob. That is also one way to fix the fence. As for those of you that think thats nuts, I've seen more then one guy go out at Terre Haute. Heck I've even seen people land in the pits at Haubstadt. |
Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
The Naivety of thinking fencing is needed for the drivers only is amazing. It is also naive to think track conditions are the only things to cause sprint cars to flip out of a ball park is as well.. Those 20 people in that pit area the car comes barreling toward or those hundreds in a grandstand that car may land on is not to be taken lightly saying nobody going to try anything is also highly disappointing.
Nobody said you gotta build a new tens of thousands fence all the way around. Key areas though do need att. And it's also Naive to believe you gotta spend a ton of money doing so. Sponsership deals in exchange, a few cases of beer. etc. Make it happen. |
This is my last post about this, just trying to help twin cities and help people see it through sumos eyes.. I'm not saying it don't need fixed just can't e right now Charles do you have any idea how hard sponsors are to come by? Because I'm sure he's trying and if he didn't already push his limits and dig into his pockets he wouldn't be fixing everything he has.. Yes it needs fixed! But money dont grow on trees and he's not owner yet

Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
True Logan and I wasn't trying to sound ungrateful. Just that there are ways and yes, many tracks don't have fence all the way around, Most I've seen have been built and rebuilt over time. And many do sections at a time.
The effort is appreciated. If they can find a way to build 50-100 ft of catch fence a year, It is still a heck of improvement in each instance.. A mechanic once asked me what's the most important thing on a car? I said Brakes. 100% correct he said. I consider catch fence as a set of brakes :) Anything can make things Go. Stopping calamity is way more important. |
I'll never understand the attitude of some folks that racing is dangerous and we should all just accept that fact.....I'm glad that people who build cars, planes, etc take a different approach.
It took Dale Earnhardt's death at Daytona for NASCAR to get serious about safety. Will it take a sprint car in the grandstands or smashing into the pits for dirt tracks to get serious about it? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
I'm not saying we will not support him at all. Heck if I had the money I would GIVE it to him. I love the track. It was at one time my favorite place. Just don't want the guy in a pickle. Now that would suck. I want to go there Sunday after L-Burg on Sat.
|
Re: Some off the press Twin Cities news
I still say take down the fence in the corners and move parking around some. I know Sumo has invested a lot of time and money in this deal, and I hope it works. He's fixing the track and seating. It all takes a while, we'll see what goes on from here.
