Petition for Tony to race in 500

If you would like to see Tony drive in the Indy 500 the speedway has a petition drive going for him to race in the 500.

How about them petitioning to get Kahne, Gordon, Newman, Stenhouse and all the other open wheel drivers they couldn't find room for also.

ABC says it is open to discussing moving up start time of #Indy500: "ABC/ESPN would enthusiastically support the opportunity for said driver(s) to participate in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. We have strong partnerships with the league and speedway.” #NASCAR #INDYCAR

Are we talking fantasy land with this list of drivers ??

Obviously, yes.

Kyle Larson tweeted Penske saying he is interested per Yahoo sports :8::8::8:

Purely from an interested spectator point of view I would much prefer to see Kyle Larson get the Penske ride offering. Problem is there is no indication that the overtures go both ways but I have to believe Penske is well aware of Young Money's talent, diversity and wildly growing popularity.

I say this with no axe to grind either way, other than to say that Kyle Larson is the de facto face of the future of the sport. Regardless where he lands I believe he will bring a sizable following. Kyle may fall short of the publicity of a 3 time Cup Champion right now, but I believe he, along with Bryan Clauson and hopefully others, could possibly be the beginning of a renaissance of sorts for the Month of May at Indy.

I'm sure he is also well aware of the fact that Larson is signed with Ganassi.

Exactly what I thought. But how is the overture through social media to be explained. If Ganassi can keep Larson from driving a wingless sprinter he surely can prevent him from driving an Indy Car for Roger Penske.

I'm not getting too excited over it. I think Penske is just throwing something out there.

Penske will probably not want to ante up his or his own sponsors cash. I'm sure he is hoping Office Depot, Burger King and Haas Automation will bring a lot of $$$$$ to the table for the deal to go down.

One other thing which becomes the elephant in the room. Tony is a Mobil guy and the Penske team is Shell-Pennzoil. Maybe not a big deal but I remember back in the day Dan Gurney getting bounced from a CanAm ride because he was a Castrol guy and Team McLaren was sponsored by Gulf.

I'll believe it if and when Smoke is strapped into a Dallara in 5.5 months.

Just watched a story about the IRL on Fox 59. Sounds like the IRL is wanting more oval racing. They are building a new oval track in Canada and they said they are wanting more ovals. Think they know its going to take American Racers and Oval races to attract fans. Hope this is for real and not just another story that never happens. Said that more things are coming to rebuild the IRL.

I think the speedway is milking this for all that it is worth with the knowledge that it will not happen.

It would be just as effective to start a petition for myself to be in the seat. It ain't gonna happen.

Tony was just on the news. Said he did not have the time for this year, but said he might consider it in the future. Sounds fair to me.
