Watch the weather.

Baseball and Silver Crown Test may have to change plans.

Heavy rain this afternoon according to the weather service.

This is interesting. The last race that SC ran at Gateway was 2001 if I recall. Do you think there is a possibility a SC race will be scheduled there for 2013?

"Good Crown test at Gateway except for engine falling on it's face every lap. Only got to 175 mph on those long straights"

HA!! Ask Dave Darland.....he got turned around by Tracy Hines at that speed going into one, a few years back....:18::18:

I think Parsons had the crash award there. Pretty spectacular if i remember it right. On a side note the race that ryan neuman and kenny irwin had there for the lead one year was the best pavement race i have ever seen. It seemed like they swapped the lead in 1 and 2 almost every lap for a good chunk of the race. If they run there again i would defiantly go back to watch.

Is there any insight as to how the test went? Was it just RW & 6R there? I'm going to guess that if it went poorly USAC won't be broadcasting it. I heard about it at Terre Haute but didn't hear the date, didn't know it was 4 days from then. I'm not assuming or implying anything but was it just 2 of the big 3 teams or did any single car teams go? Or even get an invite?

My understanding is that there were just the two teams.

It was an open test, USAC emailed the info and anyone was allowed to go but I've only seen info on 3 cars being there.

What would the reason(s) be for testing on this paved, big mile plus track if USAC wasn't considering returning?

I think it would be more a matter of the track's new operators considering a return of the SC cars.

They need to run Gateway with SC cars and Indycar (along with their support series).

fasster23 10/18/12 11:58 AM

USAC just posted on fb they will be returning to Gateway in 2013

this part of the FB statement leaves some "wiggle room" if the plans don't come to fruition: "its our plan to have GMP on the 2013 schedule" (note that it is their "plan" to return).
I am certainly hoping that part of USAC's plan works out !

Everything starts with a plan. Let's hope they can make it work out! I would love to see SC back at Gateway. Oh, and a few other tracks also!

I see from the video from the race at Gateway in 1999 that my brother, Robin, was the 1st non-qualifier. That would have been in the Steve Brown #72 Meli chassis, before I got my first SC car in 2000. It was a one-off car -- built by Meli from California. Thanks for posting the link! :)

It was mentioned several weeks ago in the St. Louis Post Dispatch in the lead-up to the NHRA Drags, that the new owner/promoter is very interested in bringing back Indy cars. That could make a nice double dip. :32:
