Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eldora
Stumbled upon this on the ESPN website. NASCAR looking at possible Camping World Truck Series race at Eldora Speedway.
This would be cool if it happens. Link below www.espn.go.com/racing/nascar/truck/story/_/id/8513382/truck-race-possible-eldora-speedway-dirt-sources-say |
Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
Maybe they could also hold an ARCA race with this but I bet this would be on the same week as the Prelude.

Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
I like the ARCA doubleheader. I dont think it will be on Prelude week. Track is already pretty full that weekend with the Dream on Saturday night and I dont think that race is going to be removed from schedule. Plus all those NASCAR fans know what the trucks are. They like to introduce them to late models. Could be a real cool show.

I can't wait! I hope it is on a day when I'm not racing. I wanna see this! The Trucks need to come back to IRP TOO!

If this happens, no ARCA race will be on the bill, no way they could pay the purse required by both series. The only reason to do it is to make money. And why would any open wheel fans want that anyway? Ad a non sanctioned, non wing sprint car race, now you have a show.

Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
I can't believe it took NASCAR this long to give this a shot. I can't believe it took Smoke owning a premier facility to get it going. On the heels of all the questions about Talledega being a "Real Race", we see some hope of seeing a real race with Nascar. I am a race driver every chance I get, but from the time I was 2 years old and until I am 102 years old I have been and will be a race fan. I can't stand Nascar. I want to watch the most talented driver win by being the most talented driver and nothing is further from that than Nascar. I also can't stand any form of stockcars, but I have purchased EVERY Prelude PPV there has been...why? Because I know that this is the one time I am going to see the most talented guy win.
The only reason Nascar lets cup guys run the Nationwide or truck races is so the tracks have a snowballs chance in heck of selling a few hundred tickets. These races always have some big names in them, but you sure wouldn't know it by looking at the empty seats. I will bet you anything I own that the Prelude sells more tickets and PPVs than any Nationwide race each year. Heck, on paid attendance without PPV counting I bet the Prelude outsells the majority of the Nationwide races, Bristol included. Nascar may finally be realizing that their product isn't good enough to keep the big boom in fans happening 20 years later, and that without the support of "real" race fans (whom they seem to alienate more and more each year) the cash cows udder is going to dry up sooner than later. Will many people see this as a gimmick? Of course they will. But so is plate racing, Danica mania, drive for diversity and everything else they do to try to hype a stale product. But, have they finally done something that rivals racing at the Brickyard in getting our, the real race fans, attention? H3LL yes they have. I am excited. I want to see footage of the tests. I want to see it on the schedule ASAP. The only question I have is.....Can a series full of ride buying development drivers and a few has beens really start 36 cars/trucks on a track like Eldora??? And who will lap all those guys the most? Smoke or Kyle Larson? |
Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
I think the main thing this can do is allow maybe a few sprint car drivers to get the chance to drive in a NASCAR race. Even though we would like to see sprint car drivers move into the Indy Car series the fact is that their best chance of moving up anymore is in NASCAR. This could provide some drivers a chance to show NASCAR teams that they deserve a chance to drive in NASCAR.

This deal won't have any credibility unless Hewitt gets a ride.....:32:

I guess the devil is in the details. However, I am very much on the fence for this event. I have only been to Eldora once, but I don't remember it being designed to have cars do pit stops. Is everyone ready for mandatory competition cautions? I assuming that they will try to modify the current trucks to run on the dirt which means that the track will have to be packed down hard to keep the dirt off of the windshields. Which means is will be a giant dustbowl. I do not follow the truck series, but I think I remembering hearing that they have the same start and park rides that the Sprint Cup does. If this is true, those teams are not going to spend any money to change over their cars. Finally, if I was a Truck owner looking for a driver, I would go get a late model shoe, not an open wheel shoe.

The only other way I see an open wheel guy getting a chance to drive in this race would be if they are already in a development program. |
Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
I'll take Kyle Larson for the win!

As for who the truck teams would put in the cars, I'd say they would prolly focus on the late model guys, not because of their popularity, but their ability to drive a larger, heavier car on dirt. I'd pay good money to see bloomquist and don oneal in a truck ride at eldora. The one open wheel guy I would put in a truck would be that Larson kid lol. Either way if this happens it'll be dominated by the two Dillion boys. They will have the best equipment, have the truck experience, and have a lot of experience in late models at eldora. Just don't see anyone beating them. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
I'd pick someone like Brett Hearn, Billy Pauch or Jimmy Horton.

Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
Larson or BC have got a real good chance, those guys drive everything very well

Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld

Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
Just think what pit road would be like.....
|
If this happens, and NASCAR makes the giant leap to run on dirt, they might as well make another leap and run heats. a semi if necessary. and a feature.
Give 2 laps of qualifying. 4 or 5, 15 lap heat races. A 15 lap semi. And a 100 lap feature. No pitting, no fuel strategy, just racing. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
When the truck series came out it was intended to be a series to feed not only drivers but fans toward the cup series. All the races were scheduled a small (some as small as 3/10 mile) weekly paved tracks with average or better seating capacities.....and average or lesser pit roads....and as a way to keep cost down and make these tracks effective they decided that each race would have a mandatory red at the halfway point (usually lap 100) where each truck would get 5 minutes to make any adjustments they wanted, including tires, and get their spot back. No need to hire full time pit crews that way. I remember seeing them race somewhere that had a figure 8 in the infield and there were pitcarts lining both sides of both fig 8 straights.
Then at some point some "genius" decided that the fans really want it to be a team sport, so pit stops became more important than the racing...truck series went with on the fly stops, left the smaller tracks for the bigger ones, and TV producers trained the commentators to make it sound like a good idea to "Step away from the action so we can show you the upcoming green flag pitstops uninterrupted when we come back". My point is....Eldora is the PERFECT opportunity to throw that B.S. mindset in the trashcan, at least for one race, and make it about the RACING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not the fastest man with a gas can. |
Re: Awesome news if it happens-nascar trucks @ eld
They should try and run the Cup cars on the mile dirt tracks like years and years ago.
