Plymouth Speedway

It's Official, Ed Kennedy announced tonight that Plymouth Speedway will be racing Saturday nights on dirt in 2013!!!

Weekly classes are still being determined... It doesn't sound like it'll be a weekly sprint track, but they will be frequent visitors. The track will be bigger, but probably not all the way out to the wall, a smaller track will remain for mini sprints.

I went to their Nitro Cross event also. They ran a great show and the Nitro Crew went above and beyond. Pastrana and his friends took every pic asked and signed autographs without a single complaint. Thanks to the track personnel and Nitro Crew! They not only took pics but they engaged in conversation with anyone around. As soon as Jaycob and I walked into the preparty Friday night, Pastrana walked right up to us shook our hands and introduced himself. I didnt know what to say for a second I was taken off guard by him being so personable.

Big THANK YOU to all involved it was an amazing experience even in 30 degree weather!

Sounds like fun! Would love to give the new bigger dirt track a try in 2013!

Re: Plymouth Speedway

Should be interesting what divisions they decide to run weekly next year. I talk to a guy at the track last weekend and it seems to me about 5 weekly divisions plus a bunch of different specials. Heard UMP Modifieds & 600 Mini Sprints and 3 other divisions.

Hope it works out. Sick of Shadyhill and them screwing us and other drivers. Under cautions they can't even get the line-up right for restarts. Drivers, crews, & car owners are sick of being treated like crap. < don't mean to bash but that's how it is. I know a lot of driver that won't race there just because of the way they do things and treat people.

GOOD LUCK TO PLYMOUTH AND TRACK STAFF. CAN'T WAIT FOR 2013 TO COME AND SEE WHAT THE TRACK SCHEDULE HAS IN STORE FOR THE SEASON.

From Plymouth Speedway FB:

Plymouth Speedway - 2013 Dirt Racing on Saturday Nights!
Weekly classes thus far:
1. Modified - UMP rules
2. 600 minisprints - rules TBD

We are working on at least one other weekly class, possibly two. We will run specials that will likely include LM and Sprints (wing and nonwing) among others. We will surprise everyone once we have most of this laid out for 2013.

We appreciate all the suggestions provided to us both publicly and privately and we are very eager to have classes and rules in place by end of this month.

However, some miscommunication has occurred and just to clarify. We have NOT decided that the track will be 3/8mi (meaning running dirt up to the current walls). We have decided we will have a smaller track in the infield for minisprints and a larger track (1/4 to 3/8). The big track will be designed to provide wide racing surface as well as several grooves of racing. Competitive racing is our goal.

So, sit tight, be patient as we start posting specifics on FB and our website over the next few weeks.

Thank You all for your interest in Plymouth Speedway!

Being lazy. I go through there on 30. Where exactly is the track from 30. Thanks.

Sprint fanatic. While on 30, you can either get off at 31 South or 17 South (which is Michigan Ave. where McDonalds, BK, etc are located).
From 31 South, turn right onto Michigan Ave. go about 1/4 mile, turn left onto 12th Rd. Can't miss the track.

From 17/Michigan Ave. Take South through downtown Plymouth. Go about 3 miles outside of town and turn right onto that same 12th Rd.

Can't help but notice that you say "Modified - UMP Rules"

To me, this says you will follow UMP rules, but will not be UMP sanction. Hopefully I'm wrong.

By default over the past few years, I have become a Butler Motor Speedway man on Saturday Nights. It's the only place around with a weekly winged sprint show. So, Plymouth running Saturday Nights will be a clash with that, but I think running Saturdays will be the best for them, for they can possibly "split" with Gas City & Kokomo weekly and give the fans up North here another night of non-wing racing from time-to-time.

Ahhhh.... the joys of having to "choose" where to go on Saturdays, now.... :)

Unfortunately, I don't feel that "joy" with the current tracks running traditional sprint cars on Saturday nights. Another choice isn't necessary and I guess only time will tell. In the region you already have Lincoln Park, Paragon, Lawrenceburg, Clay County and Waynesfield.

Add in a special event tracks like Tri State, Eldora and Terre Haute that also have non-wing sprint shows on Saturday nights and the pool is divided even more. In my opinion adding Plymouth will only delute both car counts and fans. I hope that I am wrong.

THIS RIGHT HERE is how a group of crazy guys totally committed to making what they love to do work for them and get paid to do it.

It is ALL about the experience. Treating the ticket buying public like stars, being gracious to anyone who is there.

As goood as you and I may think we are at this, there are people out there who are better.

Track owner, Ed Kennedy, stated that all classes and rules will be posted by the end of this month. Happy Halloween.
I can tell you we won't be running sprints weekly. Specials yes, weekly no. How many specials, don't know. We will start with a bang however. Stayed tuned to website, FB, 4M, Maximum Dirt, and of course great IOW for further announcements and "debate".

I can see your point there, Mud, and it is a pretty good one. And from 30,000 feet above, I agree. I am just voicing as a fan from the northern end of the state as a ground dweller. Call me selfish, but yeah.... I'm in it for ME. :)

Now if Plymouth wanted to run sprints weekly, which they are not in a position to do right now, I'd say go to Fridays and run winged sprints. No one else around does that. But now we are trying to sell wings to Hoosiers, which at times, can have it's trying moments. :)

I'm just glad I have another option. The winged shows will be fine. It will be the non-wing shows that will be a tough sell. I don't wish Plymouth Speedway ANY bad luck. I just hope they can make it pay off on a weekly basis with whatever classes they decide to run (in between sprints shows and rain outs).

I certainly don't wish them any bad luck either. I can also see your point since most of the Saturday night traditional sprint car tracks are mid state or farther south.

I have said many times that we Indiana race fans are so spoiled with the amount of sprint car racing each and every week. Who knows, we might even head up to Plymouth and take in a show or two next year.

I hope that their venture to all dirt is a plus for them and that they see a return on their investment. It should be an interesting development.

so when the weekly car count is equal to or worse than the pavement count, how soon does the track switch back.....lol Sure hope this place does not turn into another special events only track in the next few years.

My opinion, take it for what its worth, is that Friday night would be a much better choice. I know the sprint car people are gonna say, "what about Gas City?". How much longer do you think Jack can hold out before selling:19: the place to big business $$? Montpelier runs mods on saturdays. 600's already have two tracks competing for cars in the area on saturday nights......

That is my issue. This would be 3 tracks in northern Indiana not too far from each other.

We need a micro track right outside of Indy....
