Saldana/Kahne Split

Well this sucks!

http://www.ibracn.com/news/

Not sure what Kasey is thinking letting the best driver he has had go. Guess blood is thicker than water.

Heard this late last night. Lots of people saying Shane Stewart is a major possibility.

Any speculation on who he will run for, to finish the season?

I've read that he is finishing the season with KKR. I want to see an official press release.

think real hard why darrah is still here....his father provided everything cody needed to run a first class operation in central pa. and parked the team when cody got his deal with KKR.....its not discussed much but wouldnt it be pretty apparent that joe darrah is a silent partner? similar to the roth/kkr team for paul mc. but roth's partnership was public knowledge.
there are plenty of teams out there that are "rent a ride teams" and are only out there if the driver brings money.....which, in reality, isnt such a bad thing for the person providing the money.....why spend the money and time to build a team when you can rent everything you need?

JakeMoore 9/26/12 12:12 PM

^ because it kicks great talent out of rides just because their dad isn't rich...that's what's wrong with rent a rides.

I think most of it has to be performance. It's not what it once was.

2009 - 20 wins
2010 - 13 wins
2011 - 6 wins
This year - 5 wins

or it puts more cars on the track cause without the family funding, the car would be parked.
want an example? dave darland in the keith kunz ride....no sponsor, no family funding....car is parked.
how bout paul mcmahan and KKR....no more roth money....car is parked.
W T F? is the difference? somebody has to fund the car and pay the driver......so because codys dad MAY be funding the car to some extent, rather than a sponsor cody brought to the table, thats wrong?

Well in 2009 and 2010, Willie Kahne was Joey's Crew Chief. In 2011 Baby Huey (Kale) took over as crew chief when Willie and Kole really got Factory Kahne off the ground. Joey and Kale never seemed to have the chemistry, and then Joey had his injury. This year, the chemistry still seems to be an issue. As in most situations, blood is thicker than water. Willie and Kole even moved Factory Kahne to California. Sounds like they seen the writing on the walls. The 3 guys that built Kasey's wing program will all be out of the shop at the end of the season. Pretty unfortunate.

Sounds like the whole team struggles to work well together. I have talked with Joey very little so I can't point the blame there. However I have said it before, ill say it again. Cody isn't the chemistry issue. I know Darrah very well. He is a good clean cut kid, and easy to be around. He isn't cocky, and hasn't led "fame" go to his head. Still talks to my dad and I every time we see him. Cody struggles with last years crew chief and even some the beginning of this year. For a short stint throughout this season a former local crew chief was involved, and things really got turned around. Im not saying Darrah is the next kinser, or Foyt, in talent aspects but personality he is a good kid to have around.

From twitter:

"I have a hard time believing the internet rumors saying @JoeySaldana is leaving @KKRTeam at the end of the season." DIRECT MESSAGE FROM JOEY TO ME: "It's true I got fired yesterday." POSTED BY MY SOURCE: "@JoeySaldana I hope you're just playing along with the rumors." DIRECT MESSAGE FROM JOEY TO ME: "Wish I was."

He was not talking to me, this is from ibracn

I think the problems started early in the year.

Re: Saldana/Kahne Split

Time for a change for all involved, problem for Joey is that there are not a whole lot of options open for him other than starting his own team if he wants to stay with the outlaws full time. They have struggled the past month or so. He is with Kahne until the end of the season. Should be able to get shirts a little cheaper the rest of the year.

I'm sure it's not Joey slacking it's more then likely that the others have found something new, that is working really well.

2010-likely on the way to the championship until the hard flip at fall Eldora race which resulted in severe concussion.

2011- running up front in points until caught up in someone else's wreck that resulted in broken arm, ribs, and collapsed lung. Missed close to 1/3 of the season.

Both of those are could've, would've, should've situations and some bad racing luck. Would have loved to have seen how either of those seasons played out without the injuries. Agree with about 2012. They have just not been clicking this year. Doesn't help switching chassis mid season either. Seven years is a long time for a sprint car team to be together in this day and age. Wish Joey the best of luck for 2013 and hope he can find a ride of equal caliber.

nathan48moore 9/27/12 8:50 AM

I say to Kasey; pull the wings off the 9 car, and find a driver in the Indy area to jump back on the Usac tour with. There is a healthy crop of talent in Indiana.

Kyle Larson told me on Twitter yesterday that if he was offered a KKR ride in 2013, he would definitely consider it, but noted that he would not be able to run a full schedule in any division.

Re: Saldana/Kahne Split

We got to keep in mind that Joey and the other outlaws didnt have Sammy Swindell to contend with on a full time basis in the past like they have this year. I understand that competition is tough but Sammy has been on fire with A main wins, something like 13 or so wins?

Who cares. This is a forum for non-wing cars. Now if the rumor is they are going to move out of the slot car world into something which is not locked down like a magnet; now that would be news!:27:

I just hope the ride stays on tour. There are alot of guys that are deserving of a shot in a top notch ride. If Kasey wants to win a championship though, the pool of guys of that caliber is very small. Dale Blaney would be my choice. But I would give consideration to Jason Meyers, Terry McCarl, Jason Sides, Jason Johnson or Tim Kaeding. I expect Saldana will land on his feet. He is too good to be sitting at home. Someone will hook up with him and win some races.

You might be mistaken. The name of the board doesn't say anything about being non-wing only.

treecitytornado 9/28/12 4:05 PM

Dale Blaney would be a great choice, along with Tim Shaffer, Jac Haudenschild, Daryn Pittman, and David Gravel.

I think Jason Johnson would be a great choice. Not saying he needs to prove himself, but put him in equipment like KKR and there's no turning back!

But any of that group is a possibility (Blaney would be my overall pick). If he looks for someone part time like Sweet runs, there's a good chance Yung Money might step up.

Seems most people here are concerned with who will get the ride than where Joey will land. I think he deserves better.

Because most must think he will be alright is my guess.

Maybe Brady Bacon could get back in?

Pittman drove the KKR 49 at Hagerstown,md last weekend.

Romo#07 10/30/12 9:41 AM

I first heard that they were going to park the 49 car and put sweet in the 9 I am know hearing they are going to put Pittman in the 49 which I think is a very deserving and capable driver good choice in my book.

As much as we all know and love Jac, I think KKR will need a young and marketable driver that can satisfy the needs (demands) of thier big time sponsor. Yes, it's unfair but that's the bottom line these days.
