L'burg Rained Out

RAINED OUT: We are sorry to say that due to current conditions as well as more approaching storms, racing for tonight has been canceled. Our next event will be Saturday: September 15th.

I really dont understand this call... There hasnt been a drop of rain all day long and the sun is still out. You had 4 teams making 3-4 hour drives from Ohio that where within an hour of the track and are not happy. Next time you decide to cancel because of radar please try to do it at reasonable time and not 30 minutes before your gates open. These teams will not be back to Lawrenceburg and its a shame.

Any chance of rescheduling the mini sprints?? I know of several that were planning on running tonight

this is not good, i live 15 mins east of the track n no signs of rain (sure its been cloudy all day, but no rain)/ n was unfair to those teams that were traveling in to not at least give it a whirl (might a got the sprint cars in before the rain arrived, or the rain might a veered off?), or cancel earlier based on an iffy weather report. oh well time to go listen to some live music n drink em up i recon/ see ya next year (got other things goin on the rest of the month) you're still the best track goin, but ya need some constructive crits once in awhile

Re: L'burg Rained Out

I guess its easy for us fans who never have ran a track to say this was a bad call. Since they was the only track still trying to run I was about ready to drive all the way there just to see a race. This would of been my first time at Lawrenceburg.

But the one thing that kept me from getting in my car was what if it rains out or worse yet I go to the track and spend my money on tickets and then it rains. There is little chance that I would be able to drive back so the money spent on tickets plus the money to drive down would be lost.

As a driver you would also hesitate to come so the car count would be low and fans would not come also. This also has to be considered when making this decision.

If the they tried to get the show in and it started raining then you will see the same people on here complaining because they tried to run the race. So I think this was a good decision no one wants to see part of a show.

mighta been the proper call, we just got a 14 minute monsoon type downpour here in nch (we been need'n rain badly, so i was quite happy to see it)/ the kinda rain that the track coulda been run in from if it were a major event/ but the kinda rain that one wouldn't bother runnin in the track in from for a weekly show. at any rate lawrenceburg speedway is still the best, and i'm very pleased that its so close to home.

i'm really bummed that i can't make the nationals due to other commitments. is there a rain date set should the weather be bad?

Pouring here 30 miles east.

Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.
If he'd of kept it on. It would have rained
He called it, It didn't.

Would anyone care to give a time to give call offs? I can see where some promotors don't even try and give HEAT OUTS ect.

Hmmmmm. I wonder if good ole Mel had been down there if they would've run. Oh yea, they would've. Tim Johnson and myself just got done talkin on the phone about it. But we know why it was called for rain. Oh well ya can't stop the weather, and ya surely can't stop it from raining. When a track rains out it rains out, even when you are in a severe drought and there is no rain in sight, you can rain out. Hmmmm.

feel bad about the rain but pushed from Florida to get to Lawrenceburg for the sat. night race only to find out about 3:30 that they got rained out. Only up here for a week and a half and have to leave before the next race at Lawrenceburg on the 15th. kind of sad but the bright side is we were able to catch the winged show at Boyd speedway on the way up on Friday night. I do think that Dave made the right decision, call early and save some teams some fuel money. Have to change vacation schedule next year.

Not to get into a B* Fest but i don't have enough fingers and toes to count the times I showed up to closed gates at LBurg under Mel. And i Liked the guy a ton

Re: L'burg Rained Out

I can't get into a b--- fest either cuz you are right. I have showed up a couple times with gates closed during that time also. 2 times after driving from northern Mi. 490 miles one way for a regular show to find gates closed and it be rained out Only glaring differences from those instances and last nite was instant internet access to interactive current weather radar, no such thing as cell phones, evidence as I got close to the track there had been rain, and actual physical evidence at the track that rain had fallen. Or in last nites case, that rain had fallen in the last week or two.

I know this I probably shouldn't even reply, but my curiousity has the best of me....

"hmmmmm" LMAO!! Mr. Reese, I guess I'm just curious as to why you know "why" the event was canceled???? I tried to find a screen shot of the radar at 3pm on Saturday, but I can't figure it out....., but, I will tell you that if you look back to 4/21,4/28, 6/2 and opening night from 2011 (and probably a lot more I can't think of right now) you know for damn sure we have forced races in that nobody expected us to attempt. When the call was made on Saturday there was red and yellow just minutes away.
If you think with a right mind that we are going to go ahead and open the gates and put our patrons in metal grandstands that are like skating rinks when they get wet, or when there is the possibility of thunder and lightening, then you are wrong. If you think that promoters save their ass financially when you cancel an event, you are wrong! (b/c I'm pretty sure I won't be spending my week depositing refund checks from fuel, payroll, advertising, porta potty rentals, food, etc.ect.) Do you realize that 75% of a tracks expenses are incurred before the gate even opens?

For your informaton, we had 2 showers last night after the gates would have been open. A canceled event is a lose/lose situation for everyone. Get over it. The worst possible scenerio for a track is when rain hits when fans are in the stands and cars/drivers in the pits. People have to wait around, people get frusterated, people get hurt in the slippery stands!

So, "HMMMMMMM" Mr. Resse, why is it again that you "think" the event was canceled last night??
:deadhorse:

p.s. Mr. Reese, I would greatly appreciate it if you would change your IOW profile picture if you want to continually hate on us. Especially considering the picture is from a fishing trip that Mr. Rudisell so kindly made arrangements for you to go on. I guess we are just horrible people, eh??

Ya must've been lookin at radar from Indy:5::5: I guess after 3-1/2 years down ther 60 - 70 hours a week I really don't know anything that goes on . You are right about the picture though, that much I'll give ya :3::3:.
Can't wait till next Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 sprint features and a 100 lap mod featch. Yawhoo
