Thanks KMS and USAC

Thanks to Kokomo Speedway and USAC for an awesome event. Three nights of great racing with a well prepared track each night. Perhaps most of all, thanks to the drivers for putting on a show. Best thing I heard tonight was the confirmation of a Smackdown in 2013.

Think it should be rotated from track to track imo

Think other tracks should do the same thing, make it a month long tour!

I say its KOKOMOS race until proven otherwise!!!! The Oconners worked thier butts off to provide a GREAT track & hung their balls out there with a hefty purse !!!! They dont rotate the Knoxville Natls or the Kings Royal and we DONT want to rotate the Smackdown!!!!

I'm w/ ya. I was afraid that the build up from last October to now would lend itself to a let down. Should've known it'd be everything i hoped for. Want to also throw a huge shout out to STOOPS FREIGHTLINER w/ their late addition/ support for the best race cars in the world. :8:

I kinda thought the same thing to be fair to the other tracks but I just can't agree, the track was great all 3 nights and to be a stand alone event that we NEED in NW this needs to stay at Kokomo!!!

C-ya next year.

You guys are funny...

I will go out on a limb a little here and say that the owners and drivers as well as USAC would welcome any track that wants to put up the kind of money Kokomo did this weekend to have a three day marquee show. I don't think anyone would complain about that. So, if you can talk your local track into having their own SMACKDOWN type show, everyone would be in.

Kudos to the O'Connor family for having the (courage) to hang it all on the line to create this event, and see it through. Fantastic weekend. Well done.

Rotated? What are you talking about, rotated? This event belongs to Kokomo Speedway. They're the ones who came up with the idea and took the financial risk of actually putting it on. Other tracks can host similar events and that would be great, but Smackdown belongs to these guys.

This was a well run event and I had a great time, all three days.

KMS..... KMS....? That is what it said on my wristband. Is it an acronym for Koko Mo Speedway? Maybe Kokomo Motor Speedway? I always thought the joint was called Kokomo Speedway.

Acronyms aside, great racing! Thumbs up to all who put on the show! Great to see they are going to have it next year, too!

Completely agree. I hope we can get more of the tracks to take a chance and put on a big paying show. The teams deserve the extra money and it's up to us to support the shows and provide the purse. I remember being at the Oval Nationals several times on Thursday night with the stands almost empty watching some of the best racing I had seen that year. I also will say that Kokomo is just a great track for close racing and I can't think of a better place to put on a great race. I hope this becomes so big they have to add more seats!

I believe this may become a reality.
Similar to the way NHRA does their events.
They're already doing the king of the hill drag race! :)

Not exactly sure but I believe KMS Promotions is the corporate name for the speedway. Thinking that I heard a number of years ago when they bought the speedway that it was Kokomo Motor Sports Promotions. I might be wrong and someone will let us all know that.:3:

Thank you to Kokomo Speedway for putting on a great event. It was great for fans and drivers. NO WAY this event should rotate. Kokomo did the work so it's their event. If other tracks want a similar event (which I would love to see), do the work and put your own event together.

I hope all the tracks have the sack to step up and do what the O Conners did. That way we could have one a month and then throw in Sprint week and i would be a happier race fan. Maybe your home track, Walls racing , could be the next track to step up with their check book and write the 100 grrr check and get the ball rolling. The home of the SMACKDOWN is Kokomo Speedway. 364 days to make arrangements for next year.

Re: Thanks KMS and USAC

the other tracks had a hand in it to they did not run a sprint points show on the same night and put up money for laps so thanks for that [yes paragon did run and had more cars so think about it] would other tracks do the same for a different track to do this?

Gibson863 8/26/12 2:50 PM

When I spoke to the O conners, they said the goal was to get the smackdown as big if not bigger then the nationals for open wheel. With the show they put on, I believe that they could pull it off..I heard a lot of people say that they big shows don't pull big car counts. I understand that to a point but in order to get this thing big it takes some more local guys or low budget teams to come out.. I do realize not everyone has a fresh Claxton with a new drc chassis sitting in the trailer but neither does Spencer and he was one spot away from the transfer.

On the other hand.. if u could change, add or take away one thing from the smackdown what would it be.(be realistic about it)..

Mine would be to have the drivers bring the cars out in the front area (entrance) and just let the fans see the cars and to get to meet the drivers..I remember when I was a kid they would do this.

I think Kokomo did a great job and don't believe the Smackdown should move from Kokomo. I believe other tracks could do this but it may pull attention away from this great event. I would like to see no other tracks running the same night as next years smackdown in Indiana. Great job to all the other tracks for stepping up big and not racing on these nights and being sponsors of the event. The O'Conners did a great job and planned some awesome things. The band was great on Friday night

I think it's Great Kokomo put on a such a monumental show. Everyone respects the track for doing it.

I have always wondered why some Indiana track didn't run some kind of HUGE non-wing National type race this time of year, drawing most of the cars in Indiana and other non-wing areas.
If 90% of the avalible cars in Indiana showed up how many would there be?

Did you even care enough to go to this event, Lloyd? I know you don't travel too far past Putnamville, but this is one you really should have tried to make it to.

I'll take that as right-o, Mudpacker. Thanks for the history/lineage.

I don't care what they call the place. It was a great show. :8:

Great show. I was surprised the track held up as well as it did. They deserve a lot of credit for keeping it as "racey" as it was. Best racing you could ever wish for. Man, you could not wish for 3 better nights of competition from the front to the back. Only wish they would have moved the show on a little quicker. Other than that, all involved deserve a ton of credit. Hope to be back next year. :)

Agree with the great show. If you have been to many races at Kokomo you would not be surprised at how the track held up, those guys are masters of track prep. Normally they move the show along but I am sure this was a bit slower to build excitement and anticipation. After all, this was not your normal Saturday night show.

I can't complain about the speed of the show. They filled in the gap for Night 3 because they had no quals. I liked the King of the Hill deal.

But then again, when nothing is going on on Saturdays, I am usually at Butler Motor Speedway up here up North. When you talk about slow, If you want to make a weekend out of it in one night..... Why, one night, I came in spiff and left with a beard.

Great show, though. I think we all agree. :8:
