Knoxville News
Neither Sammy nor Steve made it through the B Main at the Nationals. Steve had qualified for 34 straight A Mains and Sammy is way up there, too. Sounds like the B Main was a heck of a race.

Re: Knoxville News
Someone said it was the first time since 1975 one of the two has not been in the field.

Re: Knoxville News
Both had lousy qualifying nights that set them back. Sammy and Steve will be in the championship hunt till the end and I expect them both to come back to Knoxville on a mission next year. These boys won't leave on a sour note like this.

Re: Knoxville News
The folks at Knoxville know how to hold an event, prepare a track and obtain funding/advertising, actually they have for years. Clydsdale couldn't have said it better.
No doubt people headed home excited and talking about what they saw. |
You mean to tell me that Steve & Sammy didnt get "provisionals" like all the other sanctioning bodies GIVE OUT?
Well ....I aint never Posted via Mobile Device |
No provisionals at Knoxville, King's Royal, etc. That's why they are show-up points races only.

Re: Knoxville News
Just got back in Indy from K-ville.... IT WAS AGAIN ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!.... Clydesdale said it all... ya.. i noticed they thanked us too each night that they took our tickets. Fridays races were the best I have seen all year, that place is first class with out a lick of dust floating in the air. The fans at K-ville are the most respectful, classiest race fans I have seen, you dont see drunks passing out before the A-Main like at the Kings or other big races.. Cant wait to go back next year.

Re: Knoxville News
When is the best time/place to make motel reservations for next year? I have never been and I'm not getting any younger. Any advice appreciated.

I would check Pella,Newton,Oskaloosa or even Des Moines, all are within a hour of Knoxville.Tickets shouldn't be a problem,I walked up to the ticket window and bought mine both nights.Parking is available, sometimes on sidestreets on in peoples yards, parking lots for a nominal fee. This year was the first year Steve Kinser didn't make Saturday night since 1977, which was the first year they started running wings, Sammy,Danny Lasoski or local racer Terry McCarl didn't either. A must see is the Hall of Fame Musuem. Hope some of this helps.American Racer for the WoO next year? Time will tell. |

Re: Knoxville News
One thing you can do is check out the neighboring towns hotels. Towns like Chariton, Pella, Indianola, Newton. Those towns are only 30-40 minutes away and plenty of places to eat and shop for supplies.
It also doesn't really take that long to get back to Des Moines which has many hotels. There are plenty of events around the track and town of Knoxville during the day so sleeping in another town isn't much of an issue. |
Re: Knoxville News
Whatever you do you have to stop in Dingus for a drink. I recommend a cold beer, but if you like hard liquor or dont drink at all you have to stop. It is the classiest dive you will ever be in with cool signatures and pictures on the wall and usually always have an old Nationals playing on the tv.
One of the best things of the whole week is the really dont gauge you too bad on food and drinks around the track. Whether you like winged cars or not, every sprint car fan should take in at least one nationals at Knoxville. It is much more than a race, it really is an event and the entire community, except the cops, support it. |
Re: Knoxville News
Thanks for the tips. A beer or four at Dingus sounds like a good time.

Re: Knoxville News
What a fantastic week. 8 races in 8 nights for us. I wish DD could have stayed a little closer to Larson at Osky, but they were both the class of the field by a good margin. The format of the nationals is perfect to get good racing and we loved the new Friday program. The Friday night show was top 10 lifetime.
The restaraunts and sidewalk vendors have plenty of good stuf to eat, when you aren't firing up the grill. We also hit the community pool (water park really) at Pella, the State Fair and the Sciece Center of Iowa for family fun during the days. Speaking of Pella - steaks and sausage from Ulrich's, a birthday cake and other treats from Jaarsma, and back to school shoe shopping at Brown's is familly tradition. Can you tell that we enjoy our visit... Up next, gas city, Butler, and Winchester. Then Kokomo and Berlin. August is awesome. |
