Re: Updates from Lincoln, Nebraska
Just saw the qualifying order on Twitter looks like only 16 cars. Looks like mostly the USAC regulars from Indiana. Hopefully the car count picks up for Grain Valley tomorrow.

Guessing since this is winged sprint car country where they are racing at tonight that did not help out on the locals. Tomorrow should have some more local drivers.

Re: Updates from Lincoln, Nebraska
Nebraska is winged 360 country...the 360 nats at Knoxville have most of those guys....quite a few would shed the barn door and run a USAC race close to home if it weren't for Knoxville....there is a pair of brothers named Stasa that would be there with their 360s but they are at Belleville with their midgets....there is a pretty large group of nonwing cars in Missouri but they are running their weekly track, Grain Valley, tonight....tomorrow when USAC comes to Grain Valley there will be at least 19 locals join them..the promoter has put up some pretty hefty incentives for the locals to compete with USAC and 19 of them have committed....Look for at least 30 cars tomorrow night at Valley...Sunday at Osbourne the count will probably drop off a bit because some of the Missouri locals will be worn out from 2 straight nights at Grain Valley or they will not want to bring a knife (305 or 360) to a gunfight on a track that's as much bigger and faster as Osbourne is...but you could easily see a few guys pop in who are at Knoxville tonight and tomorrow...
The only problem with car counts right now is that there is just too much major racing in the plains this weekend...10 straight days in Iowa with every type of sprintcar imaginable running at least twice, Belleville with midgets and 305 sprints, Outlaws at Pevely tomorrow, Missouri local nonwing tonight, USAC 5 of the next 6 nights, etc etc. Used to be that after Knoxvilles 4 days of racing there would be an All Stars/NCRA tour through the plains...Belleville happened the weekend before Knoxville and everybody kinda worked around each other.... now there are 8 days at Knoxville, 2 at Osky, a USAC sprint swing, an Outlaw Show at Pevely plus all the local/weekly stuff...just not enough cars to support all the fragmentation and multiple big shows on top of each other. |

Hey Brent, at Bloomington all of the Top 12 in Points were there, that was not the case for USAC at Eagle.

Holy cow, Clauson has really been in seek and destroy mode in the sprint car, as of late. He's looking as good as he ever has in that division.

CLAUSON CLAIMS SPRINT CAR DEBUT AT EAGLE
Eagle, Nebraska…….Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Indiana picked up his fourth AMSOIL National Sprint Car win of the season in impressive fashion as he rode the rim of Eagle Raceway en route to the checkers in the first-ever USAC Sprint Car race contested not only at the track but in the state of Nebraska. Clauson backed up his Track Record run in qualifying early in the night by winning the 30-lap Feature in the Curb Records – R&B Trucker’s #7 Maxim/Fisher. Dave Darland took off from the pole and guided his way around the tricky bottom line of the 1/3-mile oval. As everyone searched for their own real estate, Clauson wasted no time in jumping to the top and working in a pronounced cushion around the high-banked track. Darland and Jon Stanbrough could only watch as Clauson pounded the cushion and flashed by to take the lead on lap 11 and never be challenged again. After a caution just before halfway, Clauson ran off and hid while Kevin Thomas, Jr. jumped up top as well and, after he cleared traffic, moved to second quickly. He was no match for Clauson, however, as the 15th National Sprint Car win of his career came by a margin of 5.73 seconds. “I saw rolling around that the bottom looked pretty decent. Luckily, everybody kinda dove for that and we had clear track up high. It took a bit to get it rolling, but we were really coming up high. This is just a really neat track. It was right up against the fence off turn-two and was tough getting into three just right, but it was fun to run up there,” Clauson said. Thomas ripped off another podium finish in what is becoming his breakout season aboard the Black Jack Oil – Indy Metal Finishings #9K Spike/Kistler. “I wasn’t totally comfortable to run the top at the beginning. I got shuffled back a couple spots, and after the caution I decided to go up there and stick with it. Our car was working great up there – (Crew Chief) Bubby Jones helped us with it over the phone tonight. The top here is just a blast to run,” Thomas said. Stanbrough eventually came out on top of a battle with Darland that saw the lead slice and dice for the final podium spot. With his good run, Stanbrough’s National point lead grew slightly to 12 points in the Roberts/Tate Racing – Leer Racing #21x DRC/Speedway. “We were able to get up to second there after Clauson got by us, and the yellow came out. It was just bad timing for us. If we could have stayed up there, maybe I could have done something a little different to try to get him. But back in third, I was committed to the bottom to try to get by Darland for third,” Stanbrough said. Dave Darland came home fourth in the Jeff’s Jam-It-In Storage – Parker Store of Phoenix #11 Maxim/Claxton, while Levi Jones rounded out the top-five in the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing – Chevy Performance #20 Maxim/Kistler. 1 Jon Stanbrough 1198 Check
2 Levi Jones 1192 Check 3 Dave Darland 1115 Check 4 Bryan Clauson 1012 Check 5 Damion Gardner 1010 Attending funeral of long time Owner and Sponsor 6 Tracy Hines 945 Check 7 Hunter Schuerenberg 893 Check 8 Robert Ballou 884 Check 9 Kevin Thomas, Jr. 877 Check 10 Chase Stockon 876 Check 11 Darren Hagen 852 Belleville Midget Nationals Car Owner there with Chad Boesphlug (sp) 12 Jerry Coons, Jr. 837 Belleville Midget Nationals Car Owner there with Justin Grant Having 11 of the top 12 teams with the one missing for obvious reasons is pretty stout in a National Touring Series. Obviously with the 360 Nationals going on it pulled a lot of the local teams away. It will be interesting to see what the car count will be tonight in Grain Valley, sounds like there will be a lot of the locals participating. Tim Clauson |
Re: Updates from Lincoln, Nebraska
Well, its 780 miles from the HAR shop (on the east side of Cincinnati) to Eagle Raceway...6 MPG of diesel fuel for the truck and trailer so that is 130 gallons of fuel @ $3.75 a gallon...thats $487.50 just for fuel to get there!!...maybe the people who wonder why more teams didn't go could pitch in for the fuel cost...and while they are at it might as well throw in some cash for motel rooms, food and pit passes.

Lincoln is a bit out of the way compared to the Missouri tracks which are more on the way to Osky from Indiana. I figured some teams would wait till Saturday, Sunday, or even Monday to go out there. I sure hope they do. There will be a lot more cars at Grain Valley but they are mostly if not all low budget. Would be cool to see one of them do well. They've had a driver get killed there this year and another seriously injured so cheer on those brave souls who are willing to shed the wing in wingland!
