25 Years ago, 1987, The Inaugural Running of The Putnamville Clash was taking place.

How many drivers that will be racing this weekend can remember that day? As a pre-geezer, I remember 1987 very well.

Iran-Contra was big news, a kid lands a small plane on Red Square in Moscow, that kind of shook up the Rooskies, and Nasa starts building the Space Station. I remember lots of other geeky stuff but I will spare everyone the details.

Now, you folks need to let me know what was going on in the Dirt Track World, you know, the world that really matters!

The full purse for The Clash is listed below:

Position Amount
1st $2000
2nd $1000
3rd $900
4th $800
5th $700
6th $600
7th $500
8th $400
9th $300
10th-20th $200

I remember watching some of the early years of this race as a very young kid. It used to be called the "Wabash Clash"! I still have a T-Shirt of either the 87 or 88 race. Great memories!

jt,
i think that may be the wrong shirt.i was pit stewart back then & don`t remember it ever being called the wabash clash.
Was a lot of fun in the farrah days.

Well the Wabash Clash started back then and in recent years has been called the Putnamville Clash, maybe D.O. would remember that too possibly. I promise the shirt is from Lincoln Park.

That's a pathetic payout for this race. I attended in I believe 1990 and am pretty sure it payed $3000 to win. That was 22 years ago. That one was an awesome night. Hewitt started in the back, got to the front by halfway only to get taken out by a lapper. Restarted at the tail and went all the way to the front again to win. I think he was in that Murphy #23 car. Anyone else remember that one?

Isn't that pretty close to the same payout for a regular Saturday show?

cshuman 7/26/12 12:54 PM

It's way better then it has been in the past 5 or 6 years... Lately it has been $2000 or $2500 to win and a normal payout for the rest of the field.. So it's a step in the right direction..

I'll never understand fans complaining about a race, 3 days BEFORE the actual event......:14:

treecitytornado 7/26/12 8:23 PM

They are not all fans. Some are car owners.

Good grief.. Im a car owner and we'll be there. Nobody races for 20th spot, I don't think. Not everybody can win either, there has been many times we've loaded cause we didn't make the show. Nothing against Paragon Speedway or Keith cause he's a friend of mine but check out the payout on a regular night there if you want to *****! If you say well at least its $100 and everyone makes the show, well my answer to that is its $50 to run the B at LPS and if $50 makes or breaks you in this sport you better just stay home. Jmo :)

Weather should be nice tomorrow!

Motormasher 7/27/12 5:05 PM

I think most guys race at Paragon for the WIN more than the $$$........and the fun of everybody running a feature.
I'm just glad to see a payout from 2 different tracks posted on here :)

Admission for the 1987 race was $10. Saturday night's admission price is $15. That is a 50% increase---over 25 years, or.....2% per year. Not bad.
