Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
What an exciting long week of racing! Nice job to all drivers and crews!
What a rotten race track! Why didn't someone go out and work it ? There's plenty of time to do it. Next, why didn't someone call Kevin Thomas Jr. for sticking at least three wheels at one point over the inside birm? Isn't this some sort of penalty? They better start sticking some tires out there or let'em run a demo derby format! The finale... When Stanbrough passed Jones and a lap and a half later, the yellow comes out and USAC gives Jones his spot back... I realize that both Clauson and Jones are USAC's golden children, but c'mon! I think even Levi was suprised that they gave his spot back. Nuff said! |
I guess I'm the only person who didn't think the track was that terrible. Yeah it slicked off a bit but overall I thought it was fairly racy. I've seen much, much worse!

Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
Rotten racetrack?? A little dusty, but I happened to see two and sometimes three wide racing all over the place. The battle between DD and Shane could not have taken place on a rotten track.

Just wish I hadn't had to work, sounds like a great race. Some people are never happy, there were actually people complaining about tri state last night, and that was one of the best races I've ever seen.

Why no one worked on the LPS track.
Only real way to fix the track once its sealed over is by using a power harrow and the track doesn't have one yet. (All my cheeseburger purchases should help eventually) ;) Just adding water won't help it and using a grader would take to much time. For me it was a great sprint week! I was able to enjoy races at Kokomo and LPS. Just nothing better than being at a race track. Congrats to the winners! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
Tonight is a night that I am really glad I'm not a track promoter. ****** if you do, ****** if you don't. Spiker doesn't work the track and you wanna b1t*h about how bad the track was, if he would've reworked it everyone would've been on here b1t*hing about how late it was when we got out of there on a Sunday night. Track might not've been as good as we had a shot to see on Thursday, however as there was some passing (KTjr from about 13th to 2nd, infield or not). All in all another good night of ISW.
|
Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
they all had the same track to race on so who ever got it right won and that was JW and DD
|
It should've been worked all night after the Sat. Night show was complete. Earl Baltes used to be out on the track with the grader after the last feature and worked the track all night to get ready for the 2nd day of a 2 day show. It's not fun, but that is the only way, they could've had a better track tonight.

JT, Joe started working on the track at 11:30pm Saturday night after the races. Worked until 3:40am. Got a couple hours of sleep and back up at 6am and worked all day.
It is what it is... Posted via Mobile Device |
Well it sounds like Joe did all he could do then. It's not always exactly what you want. Most of the time when I've raced there the track has held some moisture for most of the night. Can't wait to be back and run again in September, the moisture will be there then. I still remember running the double features last October, that was awesome!

Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
People actually complained about Tri-State???? WTH! That was the best $25 I've spent on racing this year..You have to wonder if they are real race fans. Thanks to Tom,Lois and crew for a fantastic show and for having one of the fan-friendliest racetracks around...JMHO..;)You gotta love a race car that puts the RR tire in the corner B4 the RF.Clauson put on a show and "The Cowboy" did the same in the B-Main.

The track last night was awful you couldn't even see the cars its the worst I have seen all year

I mean I saw the dust through our dust at Lebanon Valley in New York with the Outlaws! Gaaaaawd!!! I mean sheeeesh! Anyone want some French Cries with their Whaaaburger? Maybe a Whinhekin? LoL
Thanks to all those who updated us who couldn't be there! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
By nature I am a pretty critical person
With as dry as it had been, it appeared to this racefan that the Lincoln Park Speedway was indeed dusty but provided a decent surface. The crews, especially the fast guys (and this field is DEEP in great cars, crews and drivers) had it figured out. We have had record heat, record drought, and I expected a really crummy sprint week. Bravo to all involved for pulling this out of the fire. An excellent week of racing. Hubie |
Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
Some passing last night. It's just too bad that the final race had to happen there. I would have rather seen an epic points battle finish at a place where someone would be capable of starting tail and running to the front in 11 laps.
All in all a good Sprint Week. Met lots of new people and had loads of fun along the way. Thanks for an enjoyable vacation |
Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
Both usac shows at lps were terrible...dusty dirty hard slick .midget week and sprintweek....
|
Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
It was such a horrible show that people were standing, shouting, and cheering the last 5 laps about how crappy it was. As a complete display of protest they stayed until the checkers fell instead of leaving with 10 to go and cheered for the cool down laps. That huge crowd really hated that side by side crap. :-)
Great race, the track was what it was but a great night. Thanks LPS and all the sprint week tracks, teams, and USAC. |
Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
Sure, it was dusty. Sure, there are scoring issues. Sure, people get mad. Sure, it was hot. Sure, there was great racing. Sure, a lot of effort by teams to go all out and win and get cars back on the track. Sure, some folks marveled at seeing this type of racing for the first time. Sure, a ton of folks had a good time.
For me I got my tenderloin fix (don't have them where I live), was able to sit in the hot sun in the afternoon and talk basketball and racing with good folks from Indiana and many other places. Going to open wheel sprint car racing is one of my favorite things. I've been going a long time and plan on it for years to come! I wouldn't change a thing. If I could change something it would be a way to pay these Drivers what they deserve for all the enjoyment we get. |
As far as scoring goes, a lot people don't realize the entire field has to complete the lap for that lap to count. At a short track like Lincoln Park when cars almost all around the track, it may seem like the leaders made a lap. As far as when you're driving, it's hard to know if a lap is completed. You could pass someone off 4 and lead across line, be in 3 again and yellow come out and have to give position back. I would like to see USAC use the "split yellow" as some call it. If the leader and one or two other cars (can be lapped cars) pass the flag stand, that lap is completed.

Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
Yes it was hot, dry, humid, rainy, windy, tacky, slick, smooth, rough ,loud, dusty, muddy.Iwant to thank everyone involved, tracks, safety people, media, usac, crews,DRIVERS,fans, owners and to anyone involved in any way. Just think of all the fans and drivers who have passed away before us that would have LOVED to be there with us to enjoy all those conditions. I just cant seem to find anything to ***** about.Come on ISW 2013 !
|
From what I have seen from saturday and (pictures)Sunday they have got the track back to great condition. It is good and smooth from top to bottom and allows for 2 and 3 wide racing. That's all a driver can ask for. So what if it is a little dusty. People on here go nuts about how great of a race they saw and then bash the track cause it was dusty. Ya act like dust is he dang Antichrist. If you don't want dust go to an asphalt track. I bet if he keeps thtroops from top to bottom he will start seeing an improved car count. Not many drivers care if there is a little dust as long as they can pass in the heats and features. Jmo

I know the world of outlaws use split scoring but the flagman will have to know which car took yellow first. That's how they do it then go back to transponders on how they crossed. When computer scoring is being used that's how they count laps who is in what running position at time of yellow.

Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
I thought it was a pretty good week all in all. I went to all but Tri State.(had a family obligation) At LPS I have to admit I did not have high expectations going into the feature, but thought it was a good race. I like Put a little heavier, but it was still entertaining. Hopefully Spiker and company can get some help from the weatherman next time, and not need a rain date. No complaints.

I also went to a Eldora Anniversary race once where the track slicked off in hotlaps and Bobby Allen started 16th and won going away it got tackier and tackier as the feature went on. Moral of the story, I'd rather have a track you could race on, Dusty or not than show up and be dusted out or fogged out. |
Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
I only made 5 of the 7 events, but thought the racing was great. Got a little dusty, but who cares. It's dirt track racin'. I grew up going to sprint car races all over Indiana from the 50's to now. If anyone can remember a day race at Terre Haute in the 50's and 60's, then you can remember what a truly dusty race track was. Thank goodness for lights and all the equipment they use now. :5:

I went to Kokomo, Lawrenceburg, and Haubstadt. I had been itching to get to Kokomo for years. After driving 6 hours I still haven't seen a race there, only wheel packing and hot laps. I did punish some Root Beer from that joint just down the road from the track.
I hadn't ever been to Lawrenceburg either and usually avoid large tracks. Glad I went, the racing was top notch. Haubstadt is where I grew up watching sprints. Racing there is good to me no matter what. One thought i had during isw- I heard and read several times from drivers/crews that Sprint Week is the week from hell and the hardest week in racing. I can't argue, but hearing that made me respect the UMP Summernationals even more. Could the USAC boys handle a gruesome schedule like that if given the chance? Posted via Mobile Device |
Why didn't they penalize DD for kicking water on the track from the infield? Oh yeah cause its there "golden child" they gave the provisional to at Haubstadt a few years back to cheat Bro out of a ISW championship so he could win it when DD didn't even make the dam race......what a joke.....& KTjr should have been black flagged too.
USAC.....what a joke Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
Let's see. So far I have learned that: Levi is USAC's golden child and they make calls to make him happy. Clausen is USAC's golden child and they make calls to make him happy. DD is USAC's golden child and they make calls to make him happy. Did I miss anybody else??:14: Give me a break.

Motormasher..................Perhaps you are the JOKE !!

Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
What is your beef with DD. If you would show up at a race instead of playing with your computer you should know that most sprint weeks shows had 2-3 provisionals every race. You got such a problem with DD go down and see him in the pits he will talk to everyone even you i bet.

Re: Thoughts on ISW, LPS and USAC
If anyone finds out where one can purchase a DVD of the entire Sprint Week, would you please post it here, or email me, or send up smoke signals, or something. I am not a computer geek, so please go easy on me for asking such a question. It is kinda hard to teach this old dog new tricks. Thank you.:22:
