SprintWeek extracurricular activities
I know most of you are locals and probably have to work, but as a tourist, I have some goals for this week (in addition to 7 nights of racing). My business partner has a friend in Indy and has been giving me stick about the fact that I never get to what he thinks are the high points of the town. These include ...
- Tour of Kokomo Opalescent Glass. - Tour of the Pavilion in Carmel. - Lunches at The Tamale Place and Zydeco's. - Lunches at 2 or 3 of Indy's brew pubs. I'm staying in Speedway. My schedule is exceedingly flexible. I'll be pleased to have company at any of the above. My week will be complete if the racing is good and I never have to eat at a track. :) Car pools to race tracks could also be interesting. |

Garage Sales!!! :23::8::D
If someone is very familiar with Indianapolis maybe you could answer a question for me. There is supposedly an abandoned (haunted) insane asylum somewhere on Meridian. That is some extra curricular activity I would love to check out! |
Re: SprintWeek extracurricular activities
Susan, don't you see enough insanity at the track?

Anybody on here been to the NCAA Hall of Champions in Indy? My dad and I plan on hitting Indy before heading down to Bloomington on Friday, and I'm wondering if it would be worth visiting the NCAA museum?

If you are staying in Speedway make sure you visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum. Only $5 to get in and $5 more to take a ride around the track. ( in a bus but still pretty cool ):23:

Re: SprintWeek extracurricular activities
If you are going to Kokomo and then heading down to Lawrenceburg on Sunday, stop by Indiana Grand Casino in Shelbyville Indiana (I-74) stop and have some fun and eat at one of there restaurants for some good food.:)

Anatolia (restaurantanatolia.com) in Bloomington is an excellent Turkish/mideastern restaurant. Excellent renditions of some of the usual fare and some really good things I haven't found anywhere in my travels. Glad to provide recommendations. I certainly plan to be there next Friday.

Re: SprintWeek extracurricular activities
As long as we're plugging our favorite eattin' spots, let me add in the Pit Stop BBQ & Grill, 932 E. Main St. in Brownsburg. 15 minutes west of Speedway, an easy drive, I-74 most of the way. 2 full size midgets in the Pit Stop, 1 race ready for the kids to get in and 1 on loan from Dreyer's collection, usually from the 40's or 50's and always with a huge history to them. The best ribs in town and more racing memorabilia on the walls then you have time to see. If you're still in town Sunday morning, they have a Sunday brunch you'll always remember, save room for a waffle from Dave Rose, once again, jmho, bob.

I usually find myself going to antique shops. Indiana has lots of them!
