USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
Per USAC Facebook.
Tonights USAC Mopar National and Ignite Midget races at Plymouth Speedway are cancelled due to the extreme heat. |
Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
How did we ever live through the heat when we were kids?:11:
|
USAC has cancelled their portion of the event tonight. However Plymouth will still be running 600 minisprints and Hornets tonight on the dirt. We agree it is hot but by 8pm the temps will be down into the mid 80s. The track is ready for racing.

Willl sprint week be cancelled if the temps are 100 degrees ?

Wow, gotta say I've never seen anything like that before. Tracks says its OK to race, USAC says no. Saw some of the teams at Walmart stocking up on supplies for the heat. Pretty big waste to stay over for them. Pretty sure the temps were known all week. This one makes little sense to me when the heat was known.
Enjoyed last night's show. Was looking forward to see what the dirt would hold. THANKS to the track for having SOMETHING tonight so it wasn't a waste to stay over. I'll be out there. We are supposed to believe if this same weather occurs during Sprint Week that they will cancel a few hours before the show? Sorry, not buying it. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
Well, I was just about to head up to Plymouth before I saw this post. Was really looking forward to seeing a track I hadn't seen before. They ran last night and it's just as hot as it was yesterday, plus they are the only class that cancelled. Something doesn't seem right here.

Usac doesn't give a rats @$$ about THEIR racers & FANS. They still get a paycheck..for now.. USAC will not cancel ISW for excessive heat its their PREMIER division. Calling all poweri officals. Head East & start a sprint series! :)

Usac made the right call, not only the heat but a lot of concern about the track. Most all teams support this decision.

Was looking forward to adding a new track to the list tonight but I guess it's off to Pville tonight instead.

Is the track smaller than Tulsa ? I wish the welding shop I work for would cancel work for this heat.

Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
I didn't see any safety issues with the track:18:The berm between the dirt track and pavement track is smaller then the cushion at most Indiana dirt tracks.Temp is 12 degrees cooler up here today.

Unbelievable! Complaining about the track before turning a lap on it. Wasn't it made clear that it was a 1/5 mile track. Track has had tons and tons of water on it. I'm sitting here looking at it under nice shady cloud cover. Track is fine and we will do our best to keep the track tacky.

How would you have a idea what your butts in the seat count would be at 1 in the afternoon? What were the stands like last night? 35,000 plus people at the outdoor motocross at Buchanon Mich (watching it live on versus channel at the moment) a hour north of the track. Doesnt seem to have hurt there crowd at all!

Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
Everybody can head this way and party at my house tonight, then take a short 2 hour ride to Angell Park tomorrow for USAC midgets at the Prairie! Or maybe it will be cancelled for being to cold, tomorrow's high is only 85 here!
I'm only being a comedian so don't take that statement seriously. |
Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
Was the track just built last night?
There is no way USAC could have known it was going to be hot today!! Why does USAC always get the blame! |
Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
From a driver ,crew chief it was very hot last i got dizzy twice and in the feature really hot in the car. Chuck power I canceled races cause of the heat and so did gas city. Im not saying timing was good should have been early. Before you guys comment think about our crews in this heat some older and volunteer.

Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
USAC has shown time and time again that they care about one thing and one thing only.....drum role please......MONEY!!!
Just look at the state of Silver Crown racing right now. They virtually have ruined one of the premier American racing series' for a big $$$ sponsorship from Ignite (Rumor has it $350,000 worth; again what I have heard and may no way be fact). Pavement Sprint car racing has died with USAC and guess what the Xtreme Series seems to be doing very well for itself. Look at the dirt midget car counts. Again, USAC is down but POWRi seems to be doing fine. USAC won't be happy until they just have their dirt sprint series. IDK maybe thats what they want. Funny thing is I get a feeling the weekly sprint guys are getting fed up with USAC too. Of course they wont cancel sprint week if it was 150 out because they stand to make money....thats all USAC cares about.:15::26::21: |

Theres really no reason for anyone to second guess it or complain. Are you serious? Its the hottest temperatures since 1936 and it is 100% completely miserable to be outside let alone work outside. Good move to cancel nobody in their right mind would enjoy it outside.

many race tracks have cancelled because of the heat in the past couple of weeks and nobody has said a word. A lot of people on here was not there last night. The heat was as bad as can get. It's USAC's responsibility to protect us from ourselves.

Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
I need some more popcorn. This is better than watching NASCAR on TV tonight.......it's my ONLY choice tonight.
Seriously Folk's, MY GOD..... Here in California there isn't a decent midget or non wing sprint car race within a five hour drive and it's a Saturday night in July!!! You all are having the worst heat in 50 years and you are complaining that a, ONE, race was cancelled tonight.... I wish I had yours problems......... |

Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
My problem with USAC is a culmination of things. This is just another straw for me. Tell me how it makes sinse to race yesterday and then not today when the temps are close to the same? All the teams spent all the money to get up there, bought their hotel rooms, and gas ect. to only run one night. What about the dirt only guys that were almost there today that wasted all the money.
You combine this with trying to slaughter the Silver Crown series by mandating a new few that no one but one team wants, killing their pavement sprint series, midget counts low on the pavement and dirt side, and putting Ballou on some sort of weird probation that hasnt been done in ages and USAC is on the verge of alienating their whole following. Again, the POWRi is doing fine with midgets and Must See is doing fine with pavement sprints so what is USAC doing wrong? They shoot theirself in the foot everytime you turn around anymore. Sorry for the rant. Actually the cancellation tonight is the least of the worst if that makes since. I will not support another USAC race (other than Silver Crown because I dont want to see those cars disappear) again. I would rather support local indiana tracks and the POWRi then spend my money at the gate to watch USUC. |
Re: USAC at Plymouth canceled tonight
JMO (and it probably doesn't matter to anyone). If USAC or ANY OTHER group or track and or its promoter, official, safety crew, etc., etc., etc., wants to put my car or my son in harms way, due to heat, safety or other, I just don't put the car on the track. Its that simple. Just because the track is there and your buddies are there doesn't mean you have to.

I guess that's the difference between a hobby and a profession..The choice that is.. Some of these crew guys do this 'work' for a living. They don't perform, hey dont get paid, they don't have a job, they don't eat. They don't have the 'luxury' of choosing when to race. Its their 'duty' if you will, to perform at the best of there abilities all season long..You wont hear a peep from them on issues like this but believe me, they are thanking USAC. . Hats off to all the badass's/grunts/hardworkers in the pits that work through this heat. Have a cold one and enjoy a day off.

All I am saying is this. Weather its a race or my "job" as you put, if my boss tries to put me in harms way, (weather I loose pay or not) I don't do it. If it is a danger to my health or a safety issue, etc. money isn't important !!!! Enjoy your cold one and enjoy the race ! |
My issue isn't with the cancelation, it's timing. 2pm on raceday? We have been living with this heat for over a week. The heat was a known going into weekend. If it was too hot, should have canceled days ago or after last night's show.
I feel for the track, they were put in a bad spot. Intermission now, they have put on a great show, especially for $7. Timing of it all just doesn't make sense with the heat being a known. Seems there is more to it to me. BTW, it feels like spring tonight in comparison. A nice cool breeze. So a swing and a miss on that. Last thing I'll say on it, done and over with now.
