Re: new race track southern indiana
where?????? and what night will you be racing??
|
They said earlier it was the old Greene county speedway. Hope they get it going, the last time I was by there it looked pretty rough. Has a tendency to flood quite often too. With I69 going through just a few miles away, who knows.

Re: new race track southern indiana
I really hope they race on Sunday evenings...Kokomo is almost too far for everyone from Southern Indiana that has to work on Monday morning. Bloomington, Putnamville, and Paragon have established their race night of the week...so instead of battling with those tracks for car count, why not make it on a night without alot of competition?
|
The plan is to race on Sundays for that reason we don't want to try to compete with surrounding tracks. Havoc will hold races on Sunday to give southern Indiana another option other then driving 3 plus hours to Kokomo. The races will be a earlier time as well so sprint cars will be heading home at a decent time. We r open to any suggestions and want to have nice facilities as well as affordable prices. Anybody with suggestions message me or Clayton.Thank you everyone and work with us as we are racers ourselves and love any form of offload racing and as well action sports. Hope to have bring familys together and have lots of fun looking forward to meeting everyone.

Indiana needs a track that runs Indiana Super Stocks on Sundays. Ya might try that class, see how many cars ya get.

Ok Thank you. We will have a meeting about the flooding and address that before it becomes a problem. The track has been there for many years without eroding so the floods that we do have seem to be lite and drain fast.

Re: new race track southern indiana
If you get this place up and running, we will definitely be there to support your efforts. We are based in Jasonville about 30 miles away, and there are a couple more sprinters from the Bloomfield area as well...I'm sure you'll be able to get enough sprint cars after you get established. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Re: new race track southern indiana
No where in your posts or on your web site tells us where the facility is.

HERES ONCE WHEN IT WAS GONNA OPEN
http://www.racereview.com/in-owensburg.htm heres another Owensburg Speedway Owensburg Speedway is a 7/16 mile clay oval located near Owensburg, Indiana. It is unclear if this track is currently in operation. The Google imagery shows what looks like an abandoned facility. New: 11-07-05 |
Track is located near owensburg, about 2 miles from the crane gate and last time I went by there it was all growed up but that was back in the April, would like to see open up it's only about 10 mins from my house

Re: new race track southern indiana
I drove by the old Greene Co Speedway this morning and there isnt much left.....Trees have taken over the old racing surface and Mother Nature has reclaimed the scoring tower. Some fencing remains which prompted my co-worker to ask "was this an old elk farm?"
I wish them luck.... |
Re: new race track southern indiana
Sounds more like a new "saw mill" operation first, then see what they got, and go from there, might pay for itself in "board feet"! Bob!:5:

Re: new race track southern indiana
Has anyone else looked at the webpage and seen what all they plan to offer? Wow sure does seem like a lot to try and take on in such a short amount of time. If it does become reality great, but maybe focusing on one thing at a time is the way to go instead of 10 different things at once. How big is this property you are purchasing? For everything you have listed you are going to need one massive facility. See where you have 22k raised so far also, great but is that even enough money for one of the mulitple facilities you plan on opening? Im not an expert, but things like an indoor skydiving and wave machine can not be cheap investments. The dirt tracks im sure you could do at a relatively lower cost, but if the place is in as bad as shape and described that 22k is going to be drained quick. My advice get one thing going then focus on expanding, jumping into a business expecting to make tons of money is going to put you in more debt and could be the demise of your dream. Start small everyone has to to start somewhere, and build from there. Best of luck on your new endeavor and hope you can make it work.

Re: new race track southern indiana
This track ran late in the 90's, I personally worked there with the gentleman that started it, he got himself in a bit of trouble $$$$$ trying to run a it. he let it go, and Two well known racers stepped to the plate after the main guy called it quits, went for a time being, but just would not take off.
Recall flagging there, recall being the scorer, and pit boss, all in the 3 years we ran it. The track was high high high banked almost to much for dirt. The flooding issues is when it rains it goes right thru the pits, he tried moving the creek and that made bad on behalf of the nature people........did not go well when he moved it. Always backing tracks, lets me know if I could be of any help.......mean while I could be found at Clay County Speedway..... |
Re: new race track southern indiana

Re: new race track southern indiana
yes that is it and just make sure that this is remembered in a couple weeks and how much work is being put into this place
---------- Post added at 11:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:41 PM ---------- Sorry about the website the that wasnt suppose to go up we have a website being designed the only plan right now is to get the building up and going again and getting the dirt track going. We do plan to do those other things in the future this year everything is going to depend on cash flow. By looking at the building it looks bad i know it has a solid foundation and a good structure. Im not trying to disappoint just trying to get the word going asap as well as trying to get some help. Today is the day that we got the green light to start on the property. I just want to thank anyone that is wishing us luck and offering help. This isnt going to be easy and we will be working really hard on this. The flooding can be an issue and we are going to have equiptment in there asap as well to fix these problems without running into issues with the "nature people". |

Re: new race track southern indiana
I live about 40 miles south of Louisville, and its about 130 miles for me. Not Bad! Bout 90 from Louisville. Its west of Bedford In. Be great for sprints. Run Bloomington fri, Putnam, or Paragon on sat, and Owensburg on sun. Not alot of traveling miles.

Had to find it. Go to google click maps and copy and paste 38.938566,-86.755836 I think this is the correct location!
|
My suggestion is to convert whats left of the track to a very wide 1/4 or 5/16 mile with progressive banking and no walls.
Walls = tore up stuff and lower car counts Big tracks = blown up motors and lower car counts Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: new race track southern indiana
sorry kevin but track was open in early 90s tim helton was the builder and owner it was a high bank track as you said , we won 3 mod features there the first year it was opened, they tried running winged sprints didnt go very well, tim had dale dubois come in and cut banking done to what it is now, ray godsey and family (bought it leased it ?) ran it for a year, then it closed, tim then went and built the track at cacterack falls, it lasted two years also, wish them luck they are gonna need it road into track not very wide for the rigs that most people use now also not alot of parking,

Re: new race track southern indiana
early 90's late 90's, guess time flies when you are racing 25+ years in 3 states,
you got all names right tho, I just didn't want to post other gentlemans names due to the direction that the track went, all men were great characters and tried very hard....... k |

Went and looked at the satellite image. It kind of looked like the Loch Ness Monster in the North end of the pond.

That track cataract was awesome. I met dick gaines there. Also watched stewart buehl and tony george battle it out in legends. That was the same night a hefty track worker slid down the backstretch about five times while watering the place.

Re: new race track southern indiana
Car counts are falling fans in the stands are becoming less and less...Not trying to be a real buzz kill here but I would tell the investors to hang on to their money .....someday they will be old and need that money....If you love the sport that much buy a camper follow some shows and sweeten the pot once in the while and sleep good at night without the head aches ....Support the good tracks we have now ,they could all use our support to survive.....
