Re: Highlights of MSCS Sprints @ Haubstadt - 5/25/08
In a USAC format, he likely would have qualified fairly well. And if he had qualified poorly, he still could have propelled through the C and/or B Main, just as he did Sunday night. A bent nerf bar in the heat race made him work this hard on Sunday night - how can that make any more sense than the USAC format?
Did I mention that Daron Clayton likely would have won without passing a car all night, nor qualifying well, had he not had engine trouble? |
Re: Highlights of MSCS Sprints @ Haubstadt - 5/25/08
True Kirk and not arguing that, Im just saying more racing of a top division is better than less and anything can happen. Yeah he had to pass a lot of inexperienced and sub par equiptment but thats part of the deal and some of those probably found the setup or a advantage by late in the program.
I wasn't there, I seen the video and of course. I've never been anywhere but LBurg :) The man passed no less than 30 cars just to make the feature then passed another 15 in it. Awesome! Chuck, who's only been to Tri State once and it made a believer out of me then. |
Re: Highlights of MSCS Sprints @ Haubstadt - 5/25/08
Hunter started on the front row of the C Main and started 17th in the B, so he passed 15 in getting to the feature. Then, he passed 15 more.
It was definitely a great run, and I'm glad I witnessed it, but the very same thing is possible at a USAC race. Everyone would have been saying the same thing had Chris Windom or Brad Kuhn made a big run in the A Main after transferring from the B Main to the A Main, and from the non-qualifier's race before that, in a USAC race earlier this year. Hunter has definitely looked good the last two races in Walker's car.... |

"I've never been anywhere but LBurg". Maybe you should expand your horizions/tracks?

I love the MSCS. And I also recognize the series for what it is. It bothers me when people want to bill the series as a replacement or threat to USAC when it isn't. MSCS has its niche, and I hope they recognize and take advantage of that market...

Which only makes me appreciate the USAC format more, although I would make some changes, such as getting rid of the rule in which one gets his time back after the semi and abolishing the 32 car format. But, it's still the best format in traditional sprint car racing, even if it has it's flaws. Also, I understand Daron lost brakes and that is why he slowed. I think if you watch it again, you can clearly see when it happens. I think he was struck by an object that just happened to come off his teammate's car, who Daron was trying to put a lap on. Talk about irony... DM |
Re: Highlights of MSCS Sprints @ Haubstadt - 5/25/08
You're exactly right on the formats, Dean. I often realize how much I like the USAC format when I go to a local or MSCS race, although I love those races, too. As you pointed out, that 'get your time back' rule is the only problem. It would be pretty simple to fix with the CRA rule on that, though.
Thanks for the correction on Daron's problems. I thought he was overheating. |

The format for the mscs series is just as good as usacs deal if they are at a track they can race on the fast ones will be up front come feature time or on there way there anyway.I will say I do not know why some people try to run down the mscs series because they have done a lot more with the purses for non-wing sprint cars in indiana than usac has ever done and they are supposed to have there headquarters in Indy so until I see usac step up to the plate with some good paying races in Indiana they are now in second place for sanctioning bodies.

I am in central IL. we have no track in this area that can hold a candle to Tri-State been going there for over twenty years now nothing else is close to this place.Been going to Terre Haute for fifteen years and made it to Kokomo and Kamp last year and waiting to visit Lawrenceburg this year.Last year I noticed a lot of the teams starting to run the mscs races is all, I just think if usac is so much better than why do they have so long between the dirt shows after speedweeks there is nothing until four crown and you can not count Joliet that place is a wizz poor excuse for a racetrack plus the rip off pricing wonder if they have learned anything yet could be a good place if they would do some checking out of the above mentioned places.Little Springfield is where I first started to watch sprints and since Joe passed away in 1987 this state has not even come close to having a place or quality of shows he used to run there. It is to the race fans benefit to be able to watch these guys run what ever place they like to go and race.

Re: Highlights of MSCS Sprints @ Haubstadt - 5/25/08
Im just curious on what makes a driver a USAC driver or an MSCS Driver?? Secondly why does it matter?? There are alot of teams that just want to race and could care less what sanctioning body is there at the track on any given night. Look at a guy like Brady Short- would he be considered a USAC guy because he's in their top 10 in points? Would he be considered an MSCS guy because he's in their top 10 in points as well? Or is he considered a local guy because he has won 4 features at local tracks here in Indiana? He is a true racer doing what he loves to do and I am very thankful that we have race teams like the 36 Team that show their support to as many tracks and series as they can and I know Brady has made alot fans along the way.
My point is why can't we all just be thankful for all of the great race teams that support the local tracks and both USAC and MSCS. As traditional sprint car fans we all have it pretty well here in Indiana. With all of the great racing action we have seen so far this year why can't we just go to a race-make new friends and have a great time cheering on the guys/gals that brought you to the track in the first place. Heck go down to the pits afterwords and shake their hands and thank them for what they do. Re: Highlights of MSCS Sprints @ Haubstadt - 5/25/08
Jason as I said earlier, I think alot of your organization. There are 2 things I really like. The influx of new talent that you help create, and the new fans you expose to non wing racing. What I was responding to was his statement that you guys have replaced USAC as the top series. I don't think anyone from your series would claim that. Keep up the good work, and I will continue to attend your shows, and enjoy them.
As for the comment above about the lack of dirt races after sprintweek, I would say that is because of the number of midget races on the schedule, including Indiana Midget Week. |
