I recently found my list of tracks I have been to over the years and have added to it. The latest additions are not in order by state,and I probably have some down twice,and I know I am forgetting one or two as well.
And some of the "race chasers" that have their own page on the web sometimes have more than one speedway listed for a certain track. For example Oxford Plains used to have a figure 8 track when I was growing up,so they add that as another totally different track,which I havent done. I should add in a couple more different tracks as they have been reconfigured,like Kokomo,Granite City and Lawrenceburg for example

I havent been to see any races in Michigan just yet. Write them down,its always fun to see where everyone else has been. I know people that have been to more places than I have,and I dont try to go to the most places. Nowadays I just go where I can watch sprints or midgets etc.

I miss Silver Springs. 60 Super Sportsman (sprint lookalikes with carburated engines,small top wings and no power steering) every week,and it was $6.00 admission when I first started going there. It might have been $8.00 admission when it closed in 2004. I never saw a bad race there.....

The track that is no longer in operation that I miss the most is the one that's been closed the longest of any on my list. The little D-shaped 1/3rd mile-Sterling Speedbowl Park! That was a dirt track extraordinaire, and plenty racy, too.

This is a great thread. It jogged my memory :18: and brought back a lot of memories. Sorry to say that quite a number of them are now shuttered and won't reopen.:13: A lot of good times and hopefully a lot more still ahead.:6:

Also very interesting to see where others have been. Now I have a opportunity to talk to them about tracks I haven't been to and have on my bucket list. Thanks ASQ.

PS: I went back and counted and 17 on my list are now closed. Unfortunately, it probably will end up being more than that if this economy doesn't rebound.

I started my list when challenged by the late Boston Bob Blair (he had over 300 at the time). Like Andrew, I have only been to sprint/midget/silver crown races for many years. I have slowed down recently, adding fewer than one per year. The letters at the end indicate that I (A)nnouced, (R)eported, or (C)rewed at that track.

When I want to get depressed, I make the list of tracks on this list that are gone. :-(

I hope you got there when Bob Bahre owned the track !! It was my home track growing up,and how I gauge every track I go to since then,on how it is run etc etc.

I would have figured only New Englanders would have been to Unity Raceway. Last time I there "Racin" Ralph Nason owned the track

I was up in Maine visiting friends (actually shipmates, a very rare thing for me when I was sailing) and drove past while criss crossing the state; went back on race night. In '84 if I recall.

I still have some that I would really like to see. My bucket list includes Thunder Road, Oswego, Bowman-Gray Stadium, Sun Praire, etc, etc.

Andrew if my memory hasn't failed me I think it was 2007 when I was at Oxford Plains, Bob Bahre I think was gone by then. He sure left his mark on N. H. racing.

No matter how many race tracks we travel to, there is no place like our home track, for you it was Oxford Plains, for me Oswego Speedway and then Manzy. I have always felt the bar was set high by that home track especially when it came to the Oswego Safety Crew.

Thanks for starting this thread, slowly some of the tracks I have forgotten are coming back.

After spending the last 20+ years criss-crossing the country chasing sprint car and midget races, I can honestly say…”Yes, yes I am.” I was "livin' the dream" for quite a while, though. Oh, to be single again.

And after this last trip to the Pacific NW, I doubt I’ll be seen anywhere until at least Sprint Week...2013 :)

As for the places I would have loved to have seen before they closed Reading and Ascot top the list. My dad and I planned a trip to Reading for a USAC/RSCA double-header the last year it was opened ('78) but for some reason the plan fell through. Ascot was just too far away for me to even think about going to when it was around.

I don't even have a desk. I saw Hales Corners on your list. You were there the one time I was there. I remember 2 things about that night. 1. The track was packed so hard the water truck spun on the front straight and never even left a tire mark and it was full. I also remember the bathroom there was huge and you told me they raced midgets inside them in the winter.

Like I said a lot of people with impressive lists.

I'm also reminded by other lists here, that I have seen races at both Manzi tracks: 1/2 & 1/3. I agree with Andrew that the serious Track Chasers are too liberal with their definition of what is a "different" track on the same site, but when a track is a permanent track that is a different racing surface, I say why not count it. I also only count tracks on which I have seen whole shows of the featured division. The TrackChaser that writes for AARN sometimes counts two or three tracks in a single day by watching just a heat or two of any division at a given track.
