Even if its 200 outside no cooler, no water.. Its funny how you could bring a cooler to the INDY 500 but not kokomo.. After heat races (unless you wanna take a short nap watching the bombers) just go back outside past the cooler security guards, jump the moat, past the guys with the M16s, and skip through the minefields to your vehicle and drink it up there! Unless they banned that now, in that case I don't know...

I think it makes sense..you can fit maybe 3,000 ppl into a place, your concessions are make you a big chunk of change..Indy 500 100,000 ppl you dont need to rely on concessions as much

Bloomington, Paragon,Lawrenceburg, and the Big E all let you take in a cooler and whatever else you want. I believe that's the way it should be, but unfortunately not all promoters agree with that.

Ya can't carry in alcohol at The Big E...had to laugh when someone mentioned Indy 500...went down on carb day and they were checking the size of coolers that people were trying to bring into infield...talk about a cluster...never saw so many abandoned coolers...The good thing about Kokomo is there prices are reasonable ...on drinks and food... Don't let not being able to bring in your pabst blue ribbon keep ya from enjoying the races...

Bottom line, folks:
If the promoters at Kokomo do not make sufficient profit, that wonderful venue will not continue to offer the great racing that is currently available there.

Steve Sinclair is promoting the WoO Show actually though.

It's been a bit since I have been to Eldora. As I recall, the booze was pretty freaking cheap. My last time, I was seated next to some locals and they had extra beer in the cooler, so I was saved the trip up to the bar AND the low price, too. I guess the rules have changed since then. I wonder if the beer prices are still low. If I recall, they were even lower than at my local.

With all the available great racing back in Ind.I get a kick out of how some people find something to complain about I can't take my cooler full of beer in Oh Boo Hoo you poor thing Maybe they should just hand you some free food and drinks when you go in I have been to tracks everywhere and very very few allow you to bring anything in.With the very reasonable prices back there if you can't afford a coke and hot dog you should probably just stay home. Then you won't have to complain =====joe bochenek

To me is isn't the cooler issue at all. Its the Bullcrap of me having a mini umbrella in my inside jacket pocket and the guy at the gate asking what it was and demanding to see it. This was at the Klash last year and this is the kind of thing that when my choice is somewhere else or Kokomo. I choose SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Oh, We're going to loose two dollars over someone sneaking a pop in. How about loosing 30+ every time I choose not to go..............

reeserx 6/5/12 1:23 PM

I'll take the great racing, excellent track conditions every Sunday night over not bringing a cooler in any day..might cost a little more in the end but man is it worth it!

Charles what was so hard about showing it was an umrella and not something else.Wish we had a Kokomo in Arizona I would gladly put up with all these trivial things

Re: Anyone know if u take cooler in kokomo

Probably the fact that it goes on nowhere else in Indiana. And it wasn't the first time. it was Gloves at the previous Klash. I had a slacks and a t shirt at sprint week and didn't get stopped.

I just get the feeling like The metal detectors at a ball park or something, Your assumed Guilty before even entering.

I can understand the no coolers. I don't like being searched. I'll take a couple extra bucks for a drink and be out temporaraly a couple bucks. The feeling of being picked over isn't temporary.

Oh and I wouldn't fly anywhere unless I had too, Due to TSA ect.
Its just me, or is it?

Like bojo20 says , all the complainers should be required to go to the west coast for a summer of racing . Then you'd be a whole lot less to bytch about here in Indiana .

Re: Anyone know if u take cooler in kokomo

I think what your really getting at here is, you don't feel very welcome there. One thing a lot of us love about racing is that you feel like you're at home when you are there. It's where you belong. I've been to Kokomo around 15 times. As many others have said, the racing is almost always very good, and that's what we (or at least most of us) are paying to see. I think some things about the place just make some people feel unwelcome. It doesn't stop me from wanting to go back though. Wish I could go tonight.

Most venues that host sporting events do not allow you to take in anything nowdays. The ones that do, well thats just a feather in their hat.

Re: Anyone know if u take cooler in kokomo

Sort of like taking in your own food and drink to a movie theater. Not! Race tracks are businesses which can only stay in business and provide us a place for racing if the bottom line is in the black. Concessions are significant part of the formula that makes this happen

stanbrough4presidentgo53 6/5/12 4:34 PM

You can take unopen bottles of waters into NFL games.. You try that at Kokomo and the tool with the glasses and the ultra cool cop start flipping out on you.. I make my 4 hour trip both ways for midget and sprint week heaven forbid I bring a water with me.. -- Chevy

If you dont like it dont go, nobody is forcing you. You arent going to change anything by getting on here and ******** about it. I do hope it makes you feel better though.

miledirt 6/5/12 5:28 PM

I really didn't see anyone griping about the rules different tracks have, just making observations. It's business, if Kokomo promoters believe that there policy is the best business decision for them, more power to them - no big deal. NO tracks around STL allow coolers. The Cardinals allow you to bring in soft side coolers, food, drinks / just no beer or bottles

Re: Anyone know if u take cooler in kokomo

Obviously it would be nice if spectators could carry coolers into the grandstands everywhere. I have no problem with either policy, it's the owner/promoter's decision.

Only gripe I ever had is if it isn't clearly signed at the grandstand entrance or in the case of seats purchased ahead of time isn't prominently noted on the ticket.

One of the first times we went to Du Quoin for Labor Day race weekend there it was hotter than the hubs of he!! and we were camped 'bout 3/4's of a mile away from the grandstands. When we got to the grandstand entrance we were told the cooler that we were totin' wasn't allowed.

Needless to say by the time I schlepped all the way back to the camper and returned without the cooler I was drenched in sweat and more than a little bit pi$$ed off. We told the lady at the gate to be sure to tell Sarge to have the no cooler policy printed clearly on the ticket and put a prominently place sign at the box office window to make the walk-up ticket buyers aware of the policy.

Can't remember what year it was but Sarge had just taken over promotional duties at Du Quoin and Springfield. That's been a while and it still isn't on the tickets for either place or in the information that accompanies the tickets when they come in the mail nor is there any kind of signage at the box office or the entrance gates.

Not really ******** about it, more just telling the truth.. I love making the trip and going to kokomo, tailgating etc trust me.. Just for those five minutes entering the gate is a pain and funny in a way..
Hell sometimes I try to talk myself into making the trip for weekly shows

If I recall last year the beer price was either $2.25 or 2.50 a can at Eldora (thats usually the happy hour price at bars around here) I was in the pits at the April USAC race this year so I don't know if the price is the same or not.

oh my...it's the little things huh? Let's not pick Kokomo out of the bunch to jump on about this, we just went thru the same thing at the Hoosier 100, and it is now the norm at Gas City also. The lucky part is that you still have a few venues that DO allow it, be thankful for that, not so hateful for the places that need the extra income to stay afloat. Kokomo has put alot of money into their facility just to keep us entertained, the racing is hot, the beer is cold & cheap, and where else can you get a porkchop sandwich like theirs? Travel light and you get right thru, fight with them and you get slowed down. What if the guy sitting next to you didn't have that lump in his jacket pocket checked out and it's a hand grenade, weirder things have happened. Just take a deep breath and go have fun at the races, it's what your spose to do, hope to see you there, with a smile on, bob:D

Yeh, as I recall, that WAS the original question, and I agree, it has been totally answered. For me, I seldom go to watch, if my car ain't there, I'm usually where it is, besides, the few times I've gone to watch, and drank more than one beer, I spent more time in line at the latrine, than in my seat watching. Just sayin! Bob!:5::deadhorse:
