Does anyone know what car it was that hit him? We were there but everyone sitting in our section wasn't sure...debate was between the 91, 23, 5. Either way, tragic. Hopefully something positive comes out of this such as helmets for on-track workers at a minimum.

I had heard the 99, but I didn't see it until after the car hit him.

Considering that it happened one car in front of me I am going with the Orange 41 it is normally a 4 but there was a duck tape 1 on it. This will be on memory that i will never forget. I feel really sad for his family and wish them the best. And for all you track workers out there please never turn your back to traffic. He never saw the car coming. And even though it may not seem like it when we are spun out or get moved back we all do appreciate you help.

I feel bad for he and his family. At the end of the day it's just a race and I am assuming that those people are basically volunteers that do it to be a part of it.

I have so much respect for the people who give their time to help put on an event such as that. Without them the wheels really can't roll.

For Roy's family and everyone involved, Thank You for your involvement and I wish you the best.

Our prayers go out to family, friends and participants. We all realize the dangers involved in auto racing and pray that this will never happen.
God gives us hope that we will once again see our loved ones in heaven.

I am pretty sure that it wasnt Dave Steele 91 or Billy Puterbaugh 23 or Tony Elliott 5. I know it wasnt me. Cause i had a front row seat.

The Anderson Herald-Bulletin said that he was 50 years old. Way too young to be taken from us.:crying: Thoughts and prayers for his family, friends and speedway co-workers. It made a very exciting race a rather somber event.

I also saw it and that memory will be etched in my mind forever. As Billy said, if you are a track worker NEVER turn your back to the oncoming traffic. Even under yellow flag conditions, danger is always present.

The entire talk2drivers.com family wish to extend our condolences to the family of the gentleman who lost his life Saturday evening. We all know how dangerous racing as a sport can be, but we never really think about the safety crews. These folks are in the line of fire so to speak too.... it's a tragedy, but HOPEFULLY something can come positive out of this.

It couldn't have been Steele since his was involved in the accident that brought out the yellow flag and was parked in Turn 1 & 2. You heard from Billy Puterbaugh and it wasn't him and I wasn't Elliott either. It really doesn't matter as it is a tragedy that Roy's family and friends are mourning now.:crying:

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and to the track. Word can not express how unfortanate this is. God SPEED!

As for a very select few fan that decided to go down to look and come back and yell across an entire section what they saw, GROW UP. I really don't car what the emts had to do, i am just thankful they did everything they could. I must admit, If I could have got to you quicker u would have left the grand stands! It was uncalled for. Sorry for my rant, but some fan have no respect. Thank you safty crew for doing your best.

Something related to this that nearly made me sick was a "fan" and his very young son (I'd say 7-10 years old)... With the walkway being right in front of our seats in turn 1, the "fan:censor:" decided to stop and point out the accident to his son.

He thought I was an ass**** for telling him to move on and stop telling his son to "look, look".

What is wrong with some people?

My prayers go out to the friends, family, Anderson staff, and everyone else envolved.

I wanted to pass along some information to everyone. In the Anderson Herald-Bulletin today was the obituary for Roy Hiatt who was killed Saturday night during the Little 500. The last line said "in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses". With the generosity of race fans, I thought maybe some folks might want to contribute. I am sure that any amount will help. Here is the address.

Roy will be missed. His legacy will go on, every time a safety worker sees his final resting spot there in turn four, they will think about him, and be reminded that this is a dangerous sport. I pray for safety and comfort for Roy's family all for all the Anderson Speedway family.
