The lap that helberg took in qualifying was rediculous. 12.606. 5 cars finished the feature.

There were 2 separate crashes where a car spun down pit road and landed in the first pit. First time a woman was hit - looked like she was sitting on some tires and the car hit the tires. She was up and walking but they took her to the hospital as a precaution.

Then several laps later another car came spinning down pit road & slammed into the car that was pitted there. No injuries on that occasion either.

Craziest and scariest thing I've ever seen. The pits, especially the first few off pit road, are very vulnerable to cars who lose control coming out of turn 4 and have to lock up the brakes.

Re: Winchester Updates?

Took in my first King of Wings and first ever Supermodified race today and sorry to say it will be my last. They were certainly hauling the mail and nary a pass and then the spins into the pits. Left after the second one figuring there is no way they could get that lucky twice the same day. Winchester is going to have to take a serious look at that area.
Another question which probably did me in the most, it took 15 minutes for the sprint cars to get pushed off, after the victory lane ceremony for the supers. I know it was a beautiful day but would have like to get a few other things done. Didn't look like anyone really cared if they raced or not. Sorry but won't be back or to any other Must See event. Must Not See in my mind.
Love the track but will only be back for non wingers and taxi's.

In the program it said autograph session after the super mods & before the sprints. They obviously decided to skip the autograph session but I don't think all the drivers knew that. A few were pushing to the front stretch for the autograph session and then found out it wasn't going to happen. I think that was the "confusion" the announcer was talking about.

I've been to 1 MSR Event & enjoyed it, racing else where is why I haven't gone to others. Don't know what the problem was but I'm sure they'll fix it:6:

What a show!!!!! Can't wait for the next!! The pit entrance mishaps could havehappened at any event, this is something the track needs to fix, in no way was it an issue related to the MSR group.

Totally agree that it was not the fault of the MSR group of the spins and I would expect Winchester will fix it before the ARCA race next month. What a show?? 3 supers running at the end and then 5 sprints. Only had 10 mods show up but the compact race was really good. Glad you liked it but like I said, I wont be back. We had no speakers down in turn one so had no idea what the hold up was between races. If an autograph session was planned maybe they should have done that during the half-hour intermission.

First of all, I am glad no one was seriously injured on the two pit mishaps. I have attended races at Winchester for over 30 years and I haven't see anything like that before. Charlie Shaw, the track owner, needs to take a look at this and get it corrected ASAP.

I was happy to see the Supers return to the high banks for the first time in 22 years. I hoped we would see a good show and for a first time event, I was satisfied with the results. Jim Hanks with Must See is doing a great job promoting pavement sprint car racing and now taking on the Supers as well. It takes time to build car counts and we all have to realize that it won't happen overnight, especially in this economy. They had some good quality cars and I certainly hope that they will be back again for another try at Winchester.

Paul White's car is a very classy looking Super. I guess the draw for me is how these are the last of a dying breed. They are mostly hand built and it seems no two are alike. The sound of these ground pounders is a thing of beauty. We don't get to see to many shows here in the midwest so I really hope that Jim can be successful with this venture. There has to be a starting point, and I certainly "had" to be there for the inaugural event.

Winchester is hard on equipment and with the speeds they are running there, a little bobble and your in trouble in a heart beat. A very warm day as well and that also takes it's toll on equipment. The sprint car feature could have gone better but I have been to a lot of shows that it could also be said the same. I wanted to get to Kokomo for the Sunday night show and also wondered what the hold up was for the sprint feature. Must see normally runs a good fast paces show so this was out of the ordinary for them for sure.

If taxicabs are your choice then plan on hitting the high banks the last weekend of June. The ARCA/CRA Late Models and the ARCA cars will be there on Saturday and Sunday. Hope they put on a great show for the fans.:6:

Re: Winchester Updates?

Y'know, if Helberg lowered the Winchester track record by .797 of a second, one could reasonably argue the track record at Anderson (10.2) is in potential jeopardy. The arguement could also be made that there could be a nine second lap coming Wednesday night. Jeff Bloom ran a 9.908 second lap at Slinger Speedway in 2010.

I'd be willing to bet it has been a while since a series with no rule changes year to year lowered its own track record by that much. It really could make the Little 500 tire choices very interesting this year.

Scott, valid question here. Who is doing tech this year for Must See? Jack French?
