Eastern Storm
With the USAC Eastern Storm swing less than a month away, wondering who all will be coming in and if we will have any surprises this year?
|
Re: Eastern Storm
Any word if Susquehanna Speedway Park was added for June 6th yet?
Was told they were working on a race for that date. |

Re: Eastern Storm
All guess's:
Marks Moody (who now has a 410 ride but idk what car he'll run) Sell should as he grew up running non-wing Mackison Monteith Bitner Storre That is all I could imagine. |
Quote:
I would say Marks and Monteith Could run at Grandview but won't miss points at the grove Friday and Lincoln on Saturday. But I could see Bitner, Storre, and Moody running the whole swing. There could be more locals to run. Posted via Mobile Device ---------- Post added at 10:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:15 PM ---------- Quote:

Re: Eastern Storm
eastern sprinkle is more like it..... 4 races spread that far apart ...what a joke...think USAC could have put something a lil better together:3:

Re: Eastern Storm
Looks like a decent tour this year. High quality support classes at most tracks. ARDC midgets at Grandview and Port Royal, New Egypt's big block modifieds plus a great show at Big Diamond should make for some exciting racing. The big disappointment is that more of the locals don't sack it up and shed their wings and defend the local turf.

Re: Eastern Storm
I am flying over from England for the Eastern storm, looking forward to going to some new tracks.
I have been to Grandview before ( About 10 years ago) but the other tracks will all be new to me. |
Re: Eastern Storm
I've got a post up on the Grove forum to see what locals will run with USAC. Still a bit miffed that Lincoln's not on the schedule! I'll only get to Port Royal this year, but that should be an awesome show!
---------- Post added at 10:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 8:36 AM ---------- Kyle Moody is confirmed in the 175 Sprinter for all but the Lernerville race. |
Re: Eastern Storm
I would love to see Steve Buckwalter run the USAC shows out east....he has a good 410 ride, kicks serious butt in the midget, and will probably already be on hand when ARDC is also on the card....

Re: Eastern Storm
It's just not a question of the local's just "shedding" the wing and running. Quite a few changes have to be done to the car mechanically as well as purchasing different parts for the car that are not utilized in the teams normal wing operation. These include longer front axles, different wheel offsets, torsion bars, sway bar option, completely different tires, and even shock packages. Easily over two thousand bucks invested to run a couple of races, where in which the guys who don't make the proper changes usually end up upside down in the fence during qualifying.
|
If promoters actually promoted these days they would help out some local guys with the expense. Brian Montieth helped pack Lincoln two years ago by "taking off the wing".

Re: Eastern Storm
Went last year and had a blast. Finally got to tracks that I had only read about. Sure wish Port Royal had ran. Most of the tracks were dry/slick in my opinion. The neat thing was that every feature was a 40 lapper. So in a way, it made up for the dry/slick condition. The crowds were very surprising for a mid week racing, and could not have been any nicer. Well, except the a-hole who parked his van with a LOUD generator by our tent.
I wont be able to make it this year due to work, but my brother isn't letting that keep him from going! |
Re: Eastern Storm
Oppweld needs a dose of reality when he asks "why the PA locals don't sack up"............perhaps it is the same reason that the Outlaws were at ran in Indiana on monday....paying more to take the green than 2nd pays in a local show and the combined payoff for 1st and 2nd was more than an entire Indiana local sprint purse.........the only guy who "sacked up" was Robert Balloiu......1 only 1........we generally get more than 1 to sack up as you say..........Fans who live in glass houses should never throw stones.

Glad to see Mark Smith coming to Indiana to get ready for the eastern storm. I guess he have to be the lone representative of the top tier posse teams.

Re: Eastern Storm
Oppweld..........we will have more locals take the green in your beloved non-wing USAC 4 race eastern storm........than you will see local Indiana drivers at a WoO or All Star race ALL SEASON. Face it no one really wants to cross over any more because the real drivers who could actually do both are mostly either to old to want to do it or retired.

While Im sure some changes need made at most tracks, Splain to me please how Stevie Smith Jr. Did nothing other than take the wings off and ran second at the Mopar Million? Also name me the PA Winged Racer thats made either Nascar or the Indy 500? Lots of USACer's in the Napcar series. The fans might just want to see the future! |

And its a good thing for Montieth he ran over the 18 going into three, because if not, he would have ended up in the pond outside 3 and 4. Instead, he busted his a**, "inside" the track. And Rahmer helped pack Grandview too. But after hot laps, with the track fast and 16 year old kids blowing by him, they loaded....."Rahmer"....."AND"....."the car"...... in the trailer and headed for the shop. I heard Rahmer's a** didn't unpucker from the seat until about 10 mile down the road....:3:.. Charlie, sure the top wing driver's can compete on the big fast tracks where straighter is faster. Let's see Haud or Little Smitty throw it in at Kokomo, Bloomington or Haubstadt. I bet it would be a different story !!!! And Brandon, back in the day, USAC "DID" get beat when they came into Central PA...."WITHOUT" the wing !!!!!! :39: (censored word detected) what the ......;) |
Re: Eastern Storm
plus....stevie admitted to a major stagger change....so the "just took the wings off" theory isnt entirely true....and do you really think with his dad as a crew chief thats all they "really" did? i dont.
IMO.....its all about buying a bunch of stuff....tires included....that they MAY only get to use 4 times a season.....doesnt make financial sense for a lot of these guys to "change over" |

Re: Eastern Storm
A lil flashback to Big Diamond USAC 2010, what a race it was...
http://gspvideo.com/2010/06/big-diam...2010/#more-938 3 out of the 4 USAC races that have been run at BDS have come down to the last lap or two to decide the winner....It's the place to see USAC when they come East for sure....Plus now the inside barriers are removed from the track which has helped widen the racing grooves, a new surface is down since they were there the last time, and this year it's been in tip top shape....I can't wait till next friday night, plus for the big party/campout afterwards too, lol....just hoping and praying the ma nature cooperates. ---------- Post added at 9:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 9:48 PM ---------- Question for the Indiana fans....That last USAC race at Big Diamond, racer Ricky Williams did an AWESOME JOB out front and was running a lane in turn 2 that usually isn't used, lol, he was well on his way to the win...A late caution changed that....But my question is, is Ricky Williams racing anywhere these days....I don't remember seeing his name last year at all, and so far this year I haven't seen it....Does Ricky still race, hope so, seemed like the fella was on his way up the ladder and then poof, he was gone, thanks for any help, much appreciated. |
