Clay county?
How many sprints will there be and what is the pay out? If it is 700 to win is it worth driving 4 hours to race 13 other cars?
Posted via Mobile Device |
We broke speeding laws in 13 counties to get to Flora yesterday. It was myself, Kyle Larson, Cj Leary, and Casey Shuman in a convoy.
Once me and Larson got to the pit gate the lady at the track asked, "what kind of car is in the trailer"? We said "its a sprint car!" She said, "oh good, now we have two!" Sadly, we broke laws and drove over a 100 mph through two states to only find out one sprint car was is in the pits. Larson, Shuman, Leary, and Chet Williams put on a $400 to win 4 car race. Not ideal but what a story. No offense to Flora, they were nice people, but I will be reserving my Sundays for Kokomo. Interviews and highlights from Flora are up now on www.jackslash.com Posted via Mobile Device |
Hahaha making memories right there that's hilarious!!!

Re: Clay county?
So Who WON? really cool story, sucks about the money but thats what I love to see. That is some guys that just love to race! It didnt matter if it would have been for a 1.00 I think they all still would have raced.
LOVE IT! Brandon Gray:22: |
Re: Clay county?
After a pit meeting with Larson, Shuman, Leary, and Williams (after the heat LOL)
A race director gathered the boys around and simply asked, "So what do you guys wanna be paid?" haha LOL After a few minutes of haggling, it was decided that it would be pay $400 to win, $300 for 2nd, and $200 for 3rd and 4th. The race director said, "ok that works for me, I will have your checks for you after the race." Shuman said, "CASH!" Well, after the race Shuman got a check that was addressed to "Kasey Shoeman" What a day.... |

I think they has 12 or 13 when they got rained out on Saturday night. It does suck what you guys went through, but atleast the track paid the guys. I know a few tracks that would have just said, here is your pit money back, thanks for coming.

Re: Clay county?
What a great story about real racers! Sean, I know it isn't like you don't have anything to do, but I am sure that you have dozens of stories which would add to the lore of sprint car racing. I think it would be really great if you would document racing not only with your video work, but by putting stories like this on paper for everyone to read.
Congratulations to you, Kyle, Casey and C. J. and the other members of the caravan for being the true racers you are, determined to race on Sunday night. |
Re: Clay county?
Yes I think an $1100 purse for 4 cars (irregardless of who the owners or drivers are) is to be commended! Kevin is proving he's running a top notch program over there!

Re: Clay county?
Guess first off I will say thanks to the 4 that came. One never knows how things will come out after a rainout and then to have rain in the area to keep cars from traveling to be rained out again.
We normally have 14 sprinters on a regular night. I set this program up for sprinters to have a place to run each Saturday night paying 700 to win and 150 to start. I did not want to turn them away and not pay them so I asked what would it take to make all happy, we settled on a pay for what we did. Guess a couple of the sprinter guys were not there to hear what Kenny Wallace had to say in the drivers meeting, if so this post would not have even come about. Thanks to all that support the track and racing, sorry for the sprint cars not coming on Sunday, not cause of the track but cause of the weather, as for as names on checks when drivers come in late and do not register, the workers do the best they can. I have said from day one we are all human and things will not always go perfect, but I have spent countless hours and money into a track that has seemed to fell to the way side for the last 3 years. Now having it only for 5 race show, things are going GREAT! Yes for me I am living my dream. THe day will come that we will have bigger races for sprints and things will be fine as they are now for the time being. I have always said negetivity does nothing but pulls things down. Hear again for the 4 sprinter, sorry but come Saturday and I guarrentee you that there will be a full field! Thanks for reading and good luck in your venture. I'm not sure if you are implying that there was any sort of problem from us that came over, because I don't believe there was at all, we had a blast rushing over to try and race, and it is what it is as far as the car count and pay.. I did put something about the spelling of my name on twitter, Kacey Shoeman, but was not offended by it at all, I got a laugh out of it... Yes, we all probly lost a little by doing it, but the stories we gained from that day were priceless.... Keep up what u guys are doing over there

Hope to see you soon! and good luck racing! Kevin ---------- Post added at 9:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 9:29 AM ---------- One thing I forgot to mention! Where else could you go and see Kenny Wallace, Kyle Larson, Casey Shuman race for only $5 admission???? And not just them but several upcoming stars and just the weekend warrior! THANK YOU People calling all morning Saturday asking about the admission, they could not believe only $5. That is what makes me so excited, touching and helping families enjoy racing again without paying to much to enjoy racing! Thanks for all your support, and see ya at the track. We like the $5 combo meal at the concession. Hamburger, chips, big cookie and a drink. Good prices on all food in fact.
And just a fun place to race. Thanks Kev. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Clay county?
Should be a Silver Crown machine in the mix on Sat. the 5th.
Gonna see how well it runs on the new E90 fuel. Just had 'er dynoed by Everret at Willy's and adjusted by Roger of Engler Injection. Now we'll just see if this old man can drive it! Bomber |
