THAT did you look around?
Did you look around tonight while at THAT?
Did you see the infield filled with Kids and Familys? I saw a kid walk up to Hockett's pit with a football. Jessie was working and saw the boy. Opened his arms and the boy tossed the ball and Jessie played catch a few times. Behind the Truckers Pit 3 boys climbed on top of the fence and watched the team work. Racing and THAT made a lot of new fans tonight. The grandstand crowd was large except where SHortBus was. But a great crowd. Yea the racing was pretty good too ! Lots of radio adds on WIBC today as well. Congrats to everybody who made it happen at THAT tonight. They did a great job and put on a show. D.O. :dologob: |
Re: THAT did you look around?
I'll give credit where credit is due, D.O. You've been waving the "Put the pits back in the infield" banner for three our four years, that I know of. As it turns out, it was the best change that they could have made. It has reconnected the fans and the race teams @ THAT.

Re: THAT did you look around?
I remember growing up, being one of the kids in the infield playing catch.
It's great to see the action back in "Action Track": in, on, and around it. Couldn't ask for a much better turnout in the stands and the racing was great... How 'bout that Brad Kuhn and the Truckers' Boys??!! :applaud: |
Re: THAT did you look around?
I know some of the teams still do not like the setup of unloading to the infield, but EVERYONE I talked to in the infield Thurday night LOVED it! More fans were made.... and afterall isn't that what it's all about?
Great job DHK Promotions on a great night at Terre Haute! I dare say the ACTION TRACK IS BACK IN ALL IT'S RIGHTFUL GLORY!!!!!! |
Re: THAT did you look around?
A big round of applause for Mike King, Davey Hamilton, Brian Dorsett, and Chris Novotny (and Tim Wolfe) for a job well done. :applaud::applaud::applaud:
Great USAC show tonight. One of the biggest crowds I have seen at Terre Haute in many years. The Action Track is back. Thank you gentlemen. Joe |
Re: THAT did you look around?
In the drivers meeting it was mentioned as a Thank You to the teams for pitting in the infield and that USAC [B. Carey] didn't hear one complaint from a team. I'm sure some member were grumbling about it but they did it and all the fans enjoyed it. 50/50 on a golf cart, Monster drink driving around passing out samples from a nice looking girl.
Lots of displays behind the Grandstand for folkes to look at. :dologob: |
Re: THAT did you look around?

Re: THAT did you look around?
Going back to Terre Haute tonight is like going back in time for me. I love them pitting in the infield it brings back some great memories from when I was younger. I saw several young fans eyes light up just getting to see the drivers up close let alone talk to them. DHK is giving the sport back where it belongs to the fan. Just ones mans opinion.

Re: THAT did you look around?
Often I miss having my grandson with me at a race. Tonight would have been special for him had he been there. Me too.
It was as good as it gets. Short track racing in America at its finest. |

Re: THAT did you look around?
If they can draw a crowd like they had last night on a Thursday, can you imagine what they might get on a weekend. I am sure a lot of people could not go because of work or school committments.
Maybe other promoters might want to look at one class when USAC comes to town. |

Re: THAT did you look around?
I do not remember the action track in it glory days, but last night was fantastic. It is great to have people in charge that care about the fans and the racers. I think the racing was better than what I have seen on my last several trips to Eldora. I can't wait for ISW, I only wish The Action Track was on the schedule. (Even if it was not part of ISW, I wonder what teams would be up for having an MSCS or unsanctioned race on Wednesay before the KAMP race. Maybe another local business who sees what great things are going on at the track would want to get involved and sponsor a race.)

Re: THAT did you look around?
Last night at Terre Haute was about as good as it gets...with the cars in the infield it brought back a lot of memories of when I used to watch Branson and Larson and all the rest of my heroes in the pits...tks a million for bringing it back...thank you DHK and thank you
Bubby for giving us a fantastic racing track...I hope Mr Miller was there to see what a great job was done by all...sometimes you have to take a step back in order to go forward...I think THAT and DHK did exactly that and it has worked very well!...just hoping that the weather gives a break tonight for the Hoosier 100> |

Re: THAT did you look around?
:applaud::kookoo:applaud: I for one felt like a kid again last night walking into the grand stands. It really hit me that I was walking were my grandfather Don Branson and AJ may have stood and told stories, or were Hutibise and Mario got a sandwich. I could not be happier that my buddy called me at noon yesterday and talked me into skipping out of work to go. A+ to the entire DHK staff.
What about the racing last night!!!!! Holy cow. I cant believe no one has mentioned Claytons run from the back of the B for the last transfer. My buddy said to me right then we could leave and the trip would have been worth it just seeing that. Great job Levi and very happy to see Brad come back to the front, who knows if he had not lost a cylinder those last 4 or 5 laps he may have just won the whole thing. |
Re: THAT did you look around?
Two words
AWE SOME Thanks to all that made it happen :applaud: |
Re: THAT did you look around?
I like the pits in the infield, but DANG my feet hurt this morning from all the walking to Load/Unload. Guess they wouldn't hurt so bad if the majority of the load I was packing wasn't around my midsection.
Great Job bringing life back to THAT. |
Re: THAT did you look around?

THAT is being prepped by Chris Novotny (Challenge5) and Tim Wolfe (Wolfe-e), both IOW members. How about a big "Thank You" for these two guys for putting in countless hours bringing the old girl back to life with two great races this month. The Don Smith Classic (MSCS) race was great and the Tony Hulman Classic (USAC) race was another great one. These guys just keep getting better and better. :thumb |
Re: THAT did you look around?
What a great night! The weather turned out good, the track was good, the competition was excellent. I brought my stepdad to the track for the first time and now he is an instant fan. I saw Bud Kaeding in the infield last night. He said he hated watching, but didn't have a ride. I agree with everyone, the pits in the infield is cool. It was great to see Jon Stanbrough standing on his car to watch hot laps with the grandstand in the background. It made for a classic picture.

Re: THAT did you look around?
Outstanding night at Terre Haute. The infield pits already have proved there worth. When I ran MSCS I tried management at that time to do this , but it fell on deaf ears. One example of the value, I was standing at the fence with Eric Burns. Two of his children were standing on a barrel and hanging on the pit fence watching the quarter midgets race. A crew member from the # 1h sprint car came over and gave the two children T-shirts. Great move and just watch THAT grow with this kind of involvement. Terre Haute can be proud again of the Action Track.

The boy with the football was my 7 year old son, Dane. I told him Hocket's nickname and told him to say hi to "The Rocket". Jesse put his wrench down, stopped what he was doing, and opened his arms for a pass. Pretty damn cool. Had to laugh when he was getting Hagen's autograph after the race. My son asked him, "why did you want to finish 3rd?" Can't remember what Darren said but he got a chuckle out of it. He had a helluva drive and so did Kuhn. Great night all around. |
