Spring 50 at Florence Semi OT but its 900hp Racing

Forecast calls for chance of Isolated AM T Storm followed by Clearing and warm with a slight chance. Always a popular Program and there isn't much else going on. It'll be nice to be warm vs last years Low 40s.

The 2012 Florence Speedway season begins this weekend as we host the 36th Annual Spring 50! This early season race pays $5,000 to win for Late Models and has become a favorite of many in the industry. The action gets underway Saturday at 6pm with Hot Laps, followed by qualifying for the Late Models. Then at 7:30 racing action begins culminating with the 50 Lap Spring 50 Feature. Also on the card will be a $1,000 to win program for the Modified division. For more information, check out the sidebar or go to florencespeedway.com.
Come out this weekend and help the Tornado Relief efforts

As a part of this weekend's 36th Annual Spring 50 weekend, Florence Speedway is pleased to announce that we have teamed up with the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission to help the victims of the recent tornados that ravaged the area on March 2nd. While Florence Speedway was spared any damage from the storms, many of our neighbors were not. The NKCAC has been working with tornado victims since the storms hit and are helping families put their lives back together. The NKCAC will have booths set up at the speedway the night of the Spring 50 and, during intermission, drivers will be going through the stands to help in the collection of funds. All funds collected will go directly to storm victims in Northern Kentucky, so come out on March 17th and help us help those who are in need.

Live only a few miles from track with all the rain we have had this morning this should be a great show with a heavy track

I was going to make the trip, but a 50% chance of rain scares me. Looks like I'll just grab a 6-pack and watch some basketball instead. Given my history of making racing plans on weather, that probably means the weather will be gorgeous and you all will have a spectacular night of racing. :3:

You actually think something was wrong with Lanigans car? About half the people around me said he'd rather quit than get beat. It wasn't a national points race and when Don passed him it wasn't half a lap that Lanigan pulled in

Drtchsr 3/18/12 6:05 PM

Yes Charles his steering broke a slave cylinder. O'Neal wasnSt catching him till he started having trouble. Read it on dirt on dirt.

ya i think he was faster then oneal in 1 and two but oneal was faster then him in 3 and 4 i think it would been a heck of a show if he didnt break i think if wells would of made it out that he may had something for oneal even tho he owns the joint espically that race

Charles Nungester 3/18/12 7:48 PM

Re: Spring 50 at Florence Semi OT but its 900hp Ra

If he broke, he broke. its easy to believe on that track. As Oneal said, He somehow found a way to get thru 1-2 without bouncing. Thats a fact as i was sitting in the turn two grandstand. Just not a lot of people believed it. Including me at the time.

It could have been a great race but with only 7 cars finishing and only a total of 3 on the lead lap it was like taking candy from a baby for Don. Track was bad fast but rough as a cornfield. It wasn't a show I would soon brag about. The best part was the rain held off on a beautiful night at a dirt track.

It and the fall 50 are ususally pretty good shows. I do know there was a 10 grand race down in TN Saturday. I didn't think the show was that good myself, but it was still a night out at the races! Seen several people I haven't seen in 4-5 months. :)

Jimmy Owens posted that only 22 cars were at the race in TN

Greg Johnson hit a rut in turn2, and jumped 3foot in the air while changing a whole lane in the air. 2 or 3 laps later his engine blew. You could hear it snap.
.
There was that #8 late model and he had the #8 mod also, he just about flipped both cars. In the mod heats the #8 had Joey Krammer on his tail and was gassing it so hard he ripped the RR tire right off the rim.
.
With only 1 lap in the late model feature, the #16 spun up front, coming out of 2 and took out about a dozen cars.
.
Only 9 cars restarted after the lap 19 caution. It was like watching a 31 lap heat race.
.
Worst part - $33 pitpass

Yeah the Wreck with the 16 and Scott James almost sealed the fate of that race. If Lanigan hadn't of broke? Who knows? Billy Pierce was kinda impressive for not much experience and the Conley boys are coming along.

bobby pierce did a he11 of a job for being a 14-15 year old kid. between his dad (bob) and grandpa (billy teegarden) he has no choice but to be good...

Re: Spring 50 at Florence Semi OT but its 900hp Ra

I was at Voluica Co. the last night of speedweeks and Bobby Pierce won. Oneil led a bunch and Ferger a couple up on the cushion, but Pierce just kept it on the pole and by the end had em covered.
.
They ran Big Block Mods also. I hate mufflers! Mufflers take so much away from the whole experience. The mods did run 50 laps and i didn't see any of em touch.
.
I was looking foward to watching Josh McQuire come from back in the pack. That 1 wreck took just about all the good cars out. I guess Florence regulars don't care to much for McQuire, there was a chant going on in the backstrech grandstands "F McQuire, F McQuire" I can say, I NEVER have heard that at a sprint car track. Now McQuire did slide up into O'neil during their heat race, mabey that set the crazies off.
.
Pit pass for $5000 to win - $33. That was total BS. $30 is already a knife in the back, and the $3 extra just twisted that knife!

When Oneal sees a track like that ya know he just grits his teeth and says let me at it, haha. He is the master of tacky/rough tracks.

That or he had dibs on some superior suspension. While most were bouncing, He rolled right over it. I see this in Sprints a lot as well. Some cars are just flat smooth and others are bouncing around. If you can't put the power to the ground as often as possible. Your going backward.

You can say its suspension all day long, and I'm sure it helps. But Don Oneal is a wheelman, and when it's time to cowboy up he has always been the one to get it done, no matter what suspension he had.
