My biggest fan, my picture of the day

http://img.tapatalk.com/4ac609b9-fee0-e235.jpg as a 34 year old man this is going to be one if the hardest days of my life. I don't know many of your personally, but i spend a lot of time on here. The man in the photo is my father, Angus MacDonald. This is at a super late model race at Toledo on May 28, 2006. He couldn't walk too well then and at the end he was in a wheelchair and too embarrassed to go outside. He just went into the hospital at the end of January. He just passed away this morning from pancreatic cancer. He started bringing me to the long gone Checker Flag speedway outside of Windsor, ON, Canada when I was just a baby. Some of my best memories in life are with him. I'm glad he can watch over me while I'm out shooting, and get to see a lot more races now. He raised two good kids, and was devoted to my mother for the last 43 years. The man in the yellow behind him just passed away on February 4th. I imagine they will be watching all the speedweeks racing in Florida.

I am so sorry for your loss. I, too, lost my dad at the age of 34. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. The sadness has now been replaced with smiles and fond memories, and in time, it will be for you too.

Sorry For your loss and I know that with the way That Bleep! Bleep! Cancer treats a person in there final days and makes it very hard to see your father that way as I did with my Father just dwell on the Good times you had together and put the last out of your memory because you father would not want you to think of the bad times it will help him Rest in Peace.

James,

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I, too, lost my father just last year. It can be very difficult; however like yours, my father gave me the gift of a passion for racing and I was able to share my middling accomplishments in racing with him. I think that often he was more proud of that than what I have achieved outside of racing.

Take care and time to think about all those good times.

Those of us that have been through the loss of our fathers/racing buddies, truly understand some of what you are going through.

Thoughts and prayers to you, your family, and all his friends.

I still think about my father every day, his passing will have been 33 years ago on 2/2/12.

I lost my father back in December of 2007 to colan cancer. He loved going to the races with me at Kokomo Speedway every Sunday night. It never mattered what was going on that day we always seemed to make it to the track. He loved all the racing it didn't matter if it was stockcars or the sprints it was in his blood those were some of the best memories I have of him and now more than ever I love going to the track and watching the races knowing he is watching down on me. It's going to be hard for a while but as some time gos on the good memories over flow the bad memories. God speed may your dad rest in peace.

So sorry for your loss...but thank you for posting...I appreciate the reminder about how lucky I am at age 39 to still have not only both of my parents, but also one grandmother and one grandfather...My dad also introduced me to racing and I will forever be thankful for that...the occasional joy it brings more than makes up for all the stress, disappointment and heartbreak the sport deals out....

again, thanks for posting...thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Like many here, I lost my dad (Nov. 1987). Cancer took him as well. We have a good idea of the pain you must feel and share in your sorrow, buddy. I will say that those good memories will help you a lot in the time to come.

Poem I've had, sorry about losing your Dad

Don't grieve for me now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back & left it all

I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play
Task left undone must stay that way
I've found that place at the close of day

If my parting left a void then fill it with remerbered joy
A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss, these things to I will miss

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now,,,,,,, he set me free:22:

Re: My biggest fan, my picture of the day

James, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and your Dad's friends. You have my deepest condolences. Lost my dad to cancer in 1999 and like so many other IOW members he introduced me to the sport we all love, that passion was then pasted on to my daughter and now to my two small grandsons..

Know your pain James, praying and hoping the pain and suffering you are feeling now will be replaced with the fond memories of your time spent with your Dad.

R.I.P. Angus! Enjoy meeting the rest of our Dad's at that racing venue in the sky.

Patti
