2012 POWRi Schedule
I just got the 2012 POWRi schedule. Some dates which particularly interested me:
June 2 - Hut 100 at Haubstadt. Looks like USAC and POWRi are going to cooperate this year. Nothing scheduled during Indiana Midget Week. Aug. 17 - Macon Aug. 18 - Lincoln Aug. 19 - Angel Park (co-sanctioned with USAC) This is the weekend of the Silver Crown at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Once again this year we have midgets at Macon on Friday night, Silver Crown at Springfield Saturday day and Midgets at Lincoln (less than 30 miles from the state fairground) Saturday night and USAC and POWRi at Angel Park on Sunday night. Sept. 1 - DuQuoin (Silver Crown at DuQuoin on Sept. 2) Sept. 29 - Macon Oct. 4-6 - Gold Crown Nationals - nothing listed Oct. 12-13 - Belleville As of now, they aren't scheduling the Gold Crown, but at least not scheduling against. On the positive side, they do have races scheduled the weekend before and after the Gold Crown in case some visiting teams want to stay and race some more. All in all, looks better to me than last year did. Glad to see the two main midget sanctioning bodies cooperating again. |
Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
Where can we get a look at the whole schedule Frank?
|
Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
The September 1st Du Quoin date won't be run on The Mile, will it? Surely it will be run indoors at the Southern Illinois Center.
Wow, the Macon-Lincoln-State Fair weekend will be a race fans delight. We'll be able to attend 4 good quality shows in less than a 48 hour period less than 50 miles apart. 2 Poweri races, a Silver Crown 100 miler and an ARCA race. Something for just about everybody! |

You probably got your schedule in an e-mail from Wanda Knepper, just as I did. When I opened the PDF file the page displayed horizontally instead of vertically and I don't know how to rotate it.Did you have the same issue? ---------- Post added at 1:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 1:22 PM ---------- Quote:

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
Those dates don't even match up to weekends. I think that was last years schedule.

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
Definitely last years schedule......

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
www.racindirt.com had it but it appears they had the wrong schedule posted as well. Thanks I'll search for the correct schedule.

The schedule Kansasdirtfan posted doesn't include the Sept. 1st Du Quoin date that dirtnonwingfan mentioned in the first post.
Just wondered which is correct. |
Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
This schedule also does not have the Sunday race July 29th at US36 Speedway, but when you go to the track web page it has it listed.

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
Well, I certainly apologize for starting this thread and causing all this confusion. Yes, I did get my information from an email from Wanda Knepper. I would encourage everyone to sign up for her emails. You can do this at the POWRi merchandise trailer. It appears to me that Wanda stays up after every POWRi event and writes up intelligent, informative, entertaining reports on the night's activities. You have a reports on the previous evening's activities waiting for you in your inbox when you awake (assuming normal sleep patterns). She has put out their 2012 schedule, even if the POWRi web master obviously hasn't.
It appears there has already been changes to the schedule released at the CB. The schedule above has them racing at Jacksonville both April 27 & 28 while the one I got this morning has them at Macon the 28th. Also added is July 29 at US 36 Raceway in Cameron MO as well as the Sept. 1 date at DuQuoin. I find the Jacksonville IL dates interesting. Last night I had a short conversation about Jacksonville with a local racer and also someone who worked there last year. I asked if they had heard whether it was going to be open and they had heard nothing definite. Can anyone shed more light on this? |
Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
That 1st little Belleville race looks perfect for my 1st trip there.

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
Frank there was some postings on another board about Jacksonville opening this year as of now it will not be open every week they had some specials booked looks like powri series was one of them now they said there should be some more information being posted soon about the 2012 season.
Looks like there will be another indoor race at the mini mile at the end of march now will have to hope they have the track the same way it was in December the feature racing was great video to watch. |
Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
I also think the April 28 date is at Macon, not a 2 night show at Jacksonville, but not positive.

I'm not too surprised the schedule is already showing signs of change. Isn't that the way it usually goes? The dates I posted are from a schedule sheet picked up at the POWRI souvenir trailer at Tulsa. |
Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
From what I heard, Jacksonville is not opening every week. They are having some specials, mostly Midwest Open Wheel Monster Energy 410 series and the POWRi shows. I'm pretty sure that's it.

There are many logistics to work through, but we have committed to open the doors for these events so one way or another the doors will be open. If at some point someone else comes along who is capable of keeping the track open for the long term, our group of locals will gladly step aside and allow them to do it. When a track that sits in the middle of a town stops making noise for a whole summer, the chances of it ever being able to make noise again are not good. So we plan on making sure some noise continues this summer in the hopes that at some point the right person comes along to take over the reigns. As one of the people involved in the formation of the MOWA series, at this point last year we didn't even yet have the idea of forming a racing series and still pulled it off with time to spare. Surely we have plenty of time to get things together to open a race track for 8-10 nights. |
Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
@bloard i hope nothing but the best for you guys. Hopefully a season like this summer with great open wheel shows will rejuvenate the track and those that are a part of it. Good luck, see ya this summer!

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
I too hope the best for Jacksonville, I love the place. It is close, which is always a positive. It's a racy little bullring that is usually really well prepared. I've seen some real barnburners there over the years, and I hope that will continue for many more.

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
no indoor race at DuQuion in march :(?!?1

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
BLOARD and his associates should be commended for their efforts regarding Jacksonville...nice racy little joint that works great for every type of openwheel car from 600cc micros all the way up to winged or nonwing 410 sprinters.
Taking over a track to run a few specials is much more difficult than it seems...probably harder than trying to run a track weekly. When you are weekly you can hire people and commit to them being able to come to work every Friday or Saturday night...it's harder to hire concession help, ticket takers, push trucks, etc if there isn't as much consistency in their work hours. The people you hire learn their jobs quickly and easily if they get to do it every weekend but only 6-8 times over a season lets them get rusty or forget exactly what they did the last time...When you go weekly you get a better feel for track prep needs than if you just run a few times a year...etc etc etc.. And an average spectator at a weekly track knows that any Friday night he decides to go have some fun there's going to be a show...other than looking at the sky and forecast there's not much planning involved on his part. A specials only track really has to be smart and thorough with the advertising to insure that casual fans, new fans and hardcore fans alike are aware of whats coming and when its coming. Bloard and his posse are stepping up for the good of the town, the facility, the racers and the fans in a big way....I hope many many people out of each group do their best to support the venture... Best of luck guys...even though its a 6 hour oneway drive for me I will try my damndest to make one of the PowrI shows.. Now I just wish somebody would step up and try to do something similar with the track at Godfrey. |

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
If anyone can make Jacksonville Speedway go, it is the people who got MOWA up and going last year. In a very few months we went from the announcement of a new organization to that organization's first few races getting coverage in a half hour weekly TV show, not to mention an excellent web site. Illinois Sprint Week, crowds, excellent fields, nationally known racers and the many talented local racers we have in Illinois, an exceptional first year. I feel lots better knowing they are trying to do something with Jacksonville. Best of luck and may you have large fields and huge crowds.
|
Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
I didn't mean to imply that it's all the same people between MOWA and Jacksonville Speedway. Many, many people worked hard to help MOWA get off the ground who are not involved in the Jacksonville effort simply because the speedway project is something that primarily requires the involvement of people who live in Jacksonville. But each of the 4-5 primary people involved with opening the speedway were involved with MOWA in some capacity. A couple of us were also involved in some capacity with the speedway last year.
The speedway lost Bobby and Cathy Hawks as promoters who are great friends of all of us involved in keeping it open. We are trying to keep as much as the rest of the team in place as possible and do our best to fill their very large areas of responsibility both at and away from the track. |
Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
The July 29 date at US 36 Speedway is indeed correct. The DuQouin sept. date will be in the Southern Ill Center and was finalized the day after the schedule was released. The Knepper Memorial date for a Sunday night is also correct due to a change in Fair dates. The March BV date will be a split show with Modifieds and the May date will be a split show with Late Models. Notice only 1 day at McCool Junction this year and the 2 day show at BV has been moved to cooler weather in October.

Re: 2012 POWRi Schedule
I'm already looking forward to Springfield weekend. I hope more fans do too regardless of weather forecasts which ended up being wrong last year. Lincoln had awesome track prep and the mile was better too. Reminds me of the old little Springfield deal.
